1401  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MicroStrategy Acquires Additional 480 Bitcoins on: June 30, 2022, 07:54:17 PM
MicroStrategy is just one of the examples, in fact one of the better examples because of it being a company that's got the faith, but I've noticed a pattern over the years that the longer Bitcoin is around, despite hitting these unstable times, which definitely are a hurdle when it comes to getting merchants, and the like to accept Bitcoin. Despite, that Bitcoin over the years, has been given more faith as time goes on.

Take a look around, there's plenty of FUD, but looking past that, I'm seeing more people advocate holding or people willing to buy in at low prices, because they just have this faith that Bitcoin will recover. This sort of mentality was only reserved for a select few a couple of years ago.

This proves to me personally that despite having turbulent times right now, and likely quite a few more in the short term, companies, as well as individuals are still seeing the benefit of investing in Bitcoin, which ultimately increases the chance of mainstream adoption in the long term.
1402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin really exist? on: June 30, 2022, 07:50:34 PM
This question only makes sense philosophically. Does anything digital really exist?
I mean, technically yeah it does exist. I mean, it's stored somewhere, i.e hard drives. Just because something doesn't exist physically, i.e to touch doesn't exactly mean it doesn't exist. We know this, most people know this. However, it's going to be difficult to convince the masses of this.

However, I do see one benefit of Bitcoin being around right now, most people are becoming more accustomed to digital money, since pretty much the whole world is shifting to using credit cards, bank accounts rather than dealing with physical cash. The more that progresses, the less cash is being used, and the less people will focus on it being something physical.
1403  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Invest in bitcoins and save yourself from Inflation on: June 30, 2022, 07:47:37 PM
I agree that inflation is a hidden tax and all that, but some things should be noted here.
1. Wages normally do grow to be adjusted for inflation.
Wages do grow, but usually it's inflation that increases first, meaning that you're pretty much earning what you were earning before, i.e you aren't benefiting from it, but for the brief moment that your wage doesn't increase in relation to inflation, you end up losing money.

It's a hidden tax, I don't know if that was the intention of the money system when it was first thought out, but it most definitely is one of the biggest glaring issues of the current implementation of our money system.
1404  Other / Meta / Re: Enforce “grammarly ” like score minimum to post.. on: June 30, 2022, 07:43:28 PM
The root of the problem is that any changes in the current version of the forum will entail the addition of edits in the new software.

That's why we don't see any innovations.
Also, whenever you add software to a existing code set, which you hadn't coded, therefore scalability might have not been considered at the time of coding it, things can get a little tricky. Since, even basic implementations end up breaking unexpected things.

Although, we've definitely seen quite a lot of newly added features over the years, and they're usually carefully thought out, and well implemented. I'd prefer that, over a slap job of just putting any, and all ideas that come to mind into the software.
1405  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 30, 2022, 06:42:36 PM
I haven't decided yet, but for the main event, while I'm obviously a Izzy fan, I actually think Cannonier gets the win. If I was Cannonier I'd be looking to secure a takedown, despite his knockout power. We saw how he smashed up Brunson with his elbows, and I think if he can get on top of Izzy, he ends the fight with them.

However, we also saw that Brunson was able to rock Cannonier, and Izzy will pretty much have all the opportunities in the world to knock him out, if he fights in a similar way. You have to think though, that his coaches have told him not to go in there looking to beat him in the stand up. Distract him with the stand up, by maybe throwing some shots with intent, but ultimately looking to secure a takedown, and build from there.

I'm going to be nervous whatever way I bet. Just feel the odds are worth it on Cannonier's side, and if I don't win the bet, I'll still be pleased with the result.
1406  Other / Meta / Re: Session expiration on: June 30, 2022, 04:44:03 PM
That's not my experience: even after Preview works, Post doesn't.
Right, from my understanding when you preview after your session becoming invalid, it wouldn't be sending it to the server. So, when you press preview in this state, it wouldn't be saving in the drafts either.

I've only ever run into it when allowing browsers to keep tabs open after closing, if that makes sense. So, when launching it back up, it'll revert to your last session, with all the tabs that were open. If you try to do any actions without refreshing, you'll run into the session invalid or expiration whatever the error message says.
1407  Other / Meta / Re: Enforce “grammarly ” like score minimum to post.. on: June 30, 2022, 04:40:57 PM
Not sure I would agree, I don't find the grammar of most users a stumbling block, even when they're spamming, and something like this seems like it would hurt the legitimate users, rather than those that are trying to spam. Plus, I bet Grammarly would disagree with how I phrase, and setup sentences. I'm not the greatest English writer myself, and I'm sure if any of you have met a Welsh person or even a Scottish person, we don't exactly speak the best of English either.

I don't know, most of the spam I deal with isn't because of grammar at all. I assume when you say grammar you mean sort of hard to understand sentences, rather than putting apostrophes, commas, and periods in the right place. If it's the latter, I'd probably disagree entirely.

Ultimately, we're a multinational forum, and therefore varying degrees of English. As long as it's somewhat understandable, I personally don't have a problem at all.
1408  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 29, 2022, 10:35:17 PM
Volk definitely has looked brilliant in his recent fights, but I think he's beatable, and Max has the skill set to beat him. The thing is Ortega was outclassed on the night, which honestly I was pretty shocked by Volk. However, I'm kind of just wanting him to lose because it's getting a bit stale, and honestly judging by how Korean Zombie got beat, Max is probably the only one currently in the position to challenge him.

Dunno man...  After seeing Volk do Brian Ortega then finish TKZ, I think he improved a tad more than Holloway did and he prolly has the higher ceiling.  It's gonna be close but kinda confident Volk takes it.  Then again, my picks have been terribad so you're prolly going to be proven right.  Cheesy
After my most recent win, I'll probably going on a solid losing streak for the rest of the year. So, I'm definitely not confident in any of my picks going forward.
1409  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 29, 2022, 12:38:28 PM
Anyway, guys watch Volk vs Holloway 2 and tell me what you think.  It's close but I think Holloway won.
Definitely wasn't a robbery that some are claiming it to be, and wouldn't have been a robbery either way in my opinion. I do think Max just about took it for me. However, I can understand how the judges would see different. I think with the blessing of replays, and statistic counts, us as viewers can sometimes make better decisions, but ultimately it's what is seen in real time, which I don't know about you, I think is largely guess work.

Some of the punches thrown are so quick, I don't even know if they've landed. Whereas, when we had a few fights at fight island, during the pandemic I could at least hear the contact, with fans that all changes.

As for the rematch, I think Max will actually take it this time around. That's where my bet is going at the very least.
1410  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 26, 2022, 08:51:06 PM
Had my head spinning a bit trying to think about the odds of your individual legs, but well done! I've very, very rarely cashed out, and I don't think ever on an important game. Even when close to dying minutes and with the game looking shaky, and only about 10-15% to lose on a bet, I still let it ride, need to learn to be a bit more pragmatic especially on final legs of parlays.

Especially good play predicting on Gamrot's comeback.

Long live casher outers.
Here's the odds: 1.50, 1.83, 2.00, 7.00, 1.083, 1.36, 1.18, 1.33. So, mostly short odds, but it's that Curtis fight, that went the distance that pumped up the return.

I rarely cash out, it's only because he looked absolutely demoralised at the end of round four. It's kind of my attitude, I bet a small ish amount, on impossible odds usually. This week I went a little bit more safe, and well it bloody came in.

It very nearly didn't come in though. I just thought, I'm going on a trip soon, and quite frankly that cash out would help a ton. So, I decided instead of the possibility of being disappointed lets just cash. Honestly, at round two I was certain Tsar was going to win, unless he got knocked out. Then, obviously the come back changed my mind enough.

I don't know, very out of character for me to cash out. Glad I did though. I know if it did end up being a different result than it was, I'd be kicking myself today.
1411  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 26, 2022, 12:51:18 PM
I genuinely feel sorry for whoever has to fight Tsarukyan next. He's going to be proper angry, not only because he lost a close decision, but his wrestling was pretty much nullified, and in fact you could say he lost pretty much every exchange. Every shot he took was either stopped in its tracks or he got reversed.

Honestly, I see both of these guys at the top of the division, and the top five are probably a little worried about how well rounded the two are. Plus, Tsarukyan is super talented for his age, I didn't realise he was so young. Definitely has the upper hand on Gamrot there.
1412  Other / Meta / Re: Spamming way of creating threads on: June 26, 2022, 12:36:13 PM
He is at it again. This morning he created another copy-pasted thread from his shitwhole blog. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5404097.0
He obviously doesn't want to stop and it could be time to start looking at a temporary ban or just nuke him altogether. Bitcointalk is obviously his advertisement platform. This person isn't interested in contributing to the forum in any way.
Yeah, nuked. Thought I was more than fair, removed the threads, gave them a warning via PM, however it's quite evident they don't want to contribute, but simply want to use  the forum as a place to advertise. Anyway, I expect we'll see a alt account in the coming days to post, so if seen just report them.

All messages sent to his inbox will tell him why all the posts were deleted. So no special effort is needed for it.  Wink
I do believe removal of a thread, doesn't actually give you a notice via your personal messages. Although, I messaged them personally. So, they should have got the warning regardless. Who knows, they might just be using automation to post these articles.
1413  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 26, 2022, 05:40:53 AM
Well, I don't think I need the weigh ins for most of my predictions. Feeling confident with the underdogs this week.

Here's the predictions:

Arman Tsarukyan
Gamrot definitely has a chance here, but I think Tsarukyan will get the job done.
Shavkat Rakhmonov
Thiago Moisés
Umar Nurmagomedov
Rodolfo Vieira
Cody Durden
These men, and women just earned me my biggest win ever I think Tongue. Not a massive amount, so don't get too excited. Not too bloody shabby though. I cashed out at round four of the Arman vs Gamrot fight, and it turns out I was right to do so. I thought Tsar was looking a bit exhausted, and Gamrot was already getting the better of the exchanges, and I had them at either 2-2 or 3-1 Tsar, but very close.

Ultimately, I made the right decision. I was offered a higher amount to what I cashed out for at the end of round two, but at that point I thought Tsarukyan was up 2-0, so let it run.

It was a eight fold accumulator with the following:

Frey vs Vanessa to go the distance
Bautista vs Kelleher not to go the distance
Cory Durden win
Chris Curtis vs Vieira to go the distance (7.00 odds!)
Umar to win
Thiago to win
Shavkat to win
Arman to win, but cashed out at round four.

Cashing out at round four is probably some of the best decision making I've made while betting on the UFC. I usually let things run, and end up disappointed Cheesy. I'm officially now a casher outer.

Makes worth staying up until 07:00 worth it Cheesy. Plus, got some free bets for next event.
1414  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 25, 2022, 12:58:34 PM
What do we think of Nate Maness' ground game? I'm thinking a decision to Umar could be on the cards, but honestly I thought that with his last fight, and he ended it real quick.

Also, if you could double down on a underdog, who would be your pick?

The reason I ask is; I'm looking to put a higher amount down this weekend, but only include 3-4 fights. I won't be betting just on wins though, thinking of during by round, and method. Unless, its a decision.

Neil Magny VS Shavkat Rakhmonov
I thought that initially; that Neil has good striking, and could potentially do some damage. Then, I reviewed some tape, and he leaves himself horribly open at times. Think he might get slept.
1415  Other / Meta / Re: [INFO]Gambling Board Spams; Concerns, Solutions & Suggestions on: June 25, 2022, 12:49:08 PM
Generally, those that open self moderated threads are those that want to protect against spam themselves or off topic replies. I rarely see users doing it for ill intent these days.

I do report posts but not a whole bunch at the same time even I wanted to because seriously its time consuming and also I don't want to judge anyone because I feel I am not really that perfect but yes it has to be an effort from the community if we really want the healthy discussions anymore here.
That's fair enough, largely reporting is a thankless job, and it's time consuming. However, every staff user appreciates even if we don't give you a personal message saying so. Reporters are our bread, and butter. Without you, we'd be much less effective at what we do. Plus, the forum would be in a lot worse condition if it wasn't for the community working towards a better goal.
1416  Other / Meta / Re: Spamming way of creating threads on: June 25, 2022, 12:46:33 PM
however, he has made four new threads today repeating the same pattern with his site link in each of those four threads. Either someone needs to tell him whats wrong he is doing (if he is not aware of the rules) or a temp ban should be an eye-opener for him. I don't think he will be getting a lot of traffic by this act of spamming.
I think I'm being fair maybe overly so, I've removed the threads again, in the end there was 6 by the time I logged back on. Then, I've messaged them with a link to the guidelines, and a brief message about what's happened i.e thread removal, and specifically why.

See what happens from here on out.
1417  Other / Meta / Re: Spamming way of creating threads on: June 24, 2022, 09:56:01 PM
You could make the same argument about LoyceV in the Meta section and pushing his statistics site on users here.  One might think there doesn't need to be a different topic for every single statistic listed on the site, but who really cares if people want to merit hunt by making lots of threads.  If people want to spam threads I don't think there's any rules against it.  At some point if it bothers people they will just hit the ignore button.  I only wish this site had better block options, where when you blocked someone they aren't able to see your posts and vice versa, instead of them just being ignored and greyed out.
The key difference with this case; is they aren't directly copying the content from their website, and pasting it here. Whereas, the quoted user above was doing exactly that, then providing the source, but the intention of posting was mainly for the purpose of advertising since they're obviously related to the site. There was no additional content or thoughts or anything. Copy contents of website, paste, probably never return back to the thread, and instead copy another of their articles, and repeat.

So, as per the guideline I quoted above; one would be deemed substantial, as well as useful.  While, the other doesn't quite qualify under that for me, due to the nature of how it was posted i.e directly copying it without anything else, intentions etc. I guess someone could argue that it was somewhat substantial, due to it not being low quality on its own, but the nature of how it was taken, and putting on here is what makes it rather unsubstantial to me. When you combine all the things together, including the amount of threads that were created in a small period of time, I think there's a clear difference between them.

I do think it's generally good practice to keep somewhat related threads into one though. So, I do get your point there, and is somewhat enforced, especially when you look at marketplace threads involving similar or the same items/services.
1418  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Signature campaign: The lowest and highest payment BTC and USD in 2013-2022 on: June 24, 2022, 09:24:36 PM
also to see that there are campaigns from way back 2017 that are still live on the forum today is really amazing.
Considering how famous (for a lack of a better word) they've become they're basically cementing themselves in the history of this place, which in return equals more customers. You can't get better reputation than having your signature campaign run for that long.

I want to add one point. In past most campaigns had their payment rates not related to USD value of BTC. Let's say campaign were paying 0.05 BTC/week and it doesn't matter whether Bitcoin costs $500 or $1500. I think that most campaigns made their rates fixed in $ value in 2017 when Bitcoin reached $20 000 for the first time. IIRC, Chipmixer switched to $ fixed payments much later. Yobit also didn't lowered their rates until relaunch of campaign in 2019. I remember they were paying 0.0003 BTC, up to 20 posts per day. So, in theory it was possible to earn 0.006 BTC per day or 0.18 BTC per month.
Right. Times are changing, and for the better. Alright, we all love receiving very high amounts when Bitcoin smashes up in price, but for the longevity of signature campaigns, fixing it to a USD value probably makes the most sense, that's until fiat collapses, but that's another topic for another day.

I personally welcome the changes for the longevity. I think a lot of users will find it hard to admit, but signature campaigns have helped this forum over the years, a sort of sub economy has thrived. Although, that doesn't come without its own problems, which have also been pretty evident through the years, and still are very much a problem today.
1419  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 24, 2022, 09:16:53 PM
I would not touch those odd on Umar win, but maybe some special bet would pay much better, like win by his special weapon - rear naked choke.
Yeah, submission or KO at 1.66 I mean that's still pretty bad odds. My bookie isn't currently offering specifically submission, which I imagine would be around the 1.80-2.00 mark? I don't like going for submission only though, generally most fighters have a decent standard of BJJ. Especially, on the three rounders. Though, it's Umar we're talking about who has a great track record.

Overall this is not easy fight card to predict for me at all.
That's ultimately the reason I went with some of the underdogs. I do think it's going to be a night of finishes, and good fights though.
1420  Other / Meta / Re: Spamming way of creating threads on: June 24, 2022, 08:52:45 PM
So you've deleted everything? The profile looks clean now.
I also want to know is it worth it for that user to get a temporary ban or permanent ban once the main purpose of posting the link is known?
Everything I deemed as advertising, which was everything as the link was always included. Plus, they didn't have many if any posts actually interacting after posting the threads. I can only nuke, and therefore deciding against that, since I thought a temporary ban would likely be better. That's up to the globals/admins though. They might deem the removal of the posts, enough of a warning. If the user continues, I'd say report it, and further action will likely be taken.

But in this case, I really want to know if someone who 100% posts a referral link on this forum as a real effort to increase the traffic of his site or personal blog is not breaking the rules? I may have forgotten something.
In this case, it was clear to me that the user was posting these articles for the sole purpose of advertising their site. They were sprung around the forum, not only Politics, and society. They rarely if ever contributed back to the discussion. They were also all posted within a short period of time, even ones that were made several days ago, were all bunched up within a few hours of each other if I recall correctly, at the very least the same day.

However, just to be clear; when you say referral, referrals usually mean in terms of interneting (that's a word, right?), a referral that someone earns from, probably better described as a affiliate link. That wouldn't be allowed, unless specific conditions were met. However, when a site posts a tracking link (which could be confused with a referral link, as they're effectively the same) to their own site, for them to track how many visitors they receive specifically from their Bitcointalk thread, that's generally okay. However, not for everything thread, as that's advertisement spam. Usually, this method is seen on announcement threads, as it does make sense there.

It's surprising that a much pronounced board like Politics and Society comes without a moderator. If gambling board could have one, I suppose the P&H should have one too. I see that the rules to this board was crated by Flying Hellfish and possibly its moderation but the user haven't been active for almost a year. I wonder if the user is still with us and could this be the reason for the neglecton the board? Something ought to be done.
It's probably the most difficult section to moderate. Not because of the sheer amount of spam, but the fact you're going to piss users off no matter what stance you take. There's going to be complaints made, and ultimately it's going to be a difficult job picking out what's spam, and what's isn't. Personally, and I know this is going to be seen as detrimental to a lot of users there, but most things should be left, as long as there's some sort of discussion. However, there needs to be substance, and I'm not saying correct substance, but a explanation or reason to believe what they're posting. You know, if someone posts "god is great", and that's all, that to me is spam. However, that would likely be argued as censorship by some, but its really not. You need someone to be objective, without any sort of bias at all. So, really they shouldn't care what the person is saying, but rather if it's substantial enough.

That's ultimately why the P&S section has struggled over the years I'd say. It's a great section, some proper good posters there, and some of the most interesting discussions are had there, that comes with some big personalities, with some absolutely crazy stances, but you need someone to be able to separate that craziness, and apply objective based moderating.

Also, due to the nature of the discussions; there's plenty of drama there. The ideal candidate probably isn't someone that routinely gets involved with discussion honestly Cheesy so they don't build up these subconscious feelings towards users that they've gotten into debates with which effects how they moderate.

theymos has his work cut out for him with that section Tongue.
