I only wish I had money in an exchange so I could scoop up cheap coins.

Oh well, there will be a next time.

Yup, gox needs to get its shit together first.
1745  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Memories of a Mania on: April 09, 2013, 10:08:32 PM
Thanks Alonzo for your level-headed post.

I'd also like to add that other bubbles (like the real estate bubble) were caused by the Federal Reserve keeping interest rates too low for too long, causing malinvestment. In fact these boom/bust business cycles that bring us recessions and depressions can be avoided by taking the central banks out of the picture.

With Bitcoin, there is no danger of this kind of manipulation.
1746  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 09, 2013, 09:23:25 PM
Nice pennant forming too. Maybe we'll break out toward 250 later tonight.
1747  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 09, 2013, 09:13:58 PM
You are way off, Bitcoin can't be compared to some random stock. It's a New Paradigm!!!

I agree entirely, why only today the guy cleaning my shoes was talking about his Bitcoin investment going up in value.

I overheard a random guy in the grocery store talking about bitcoin yesterday, also the cashier at my CVS asked me what the hell all these new Moneygram orders to ZipZap were for Cheesy
1748  Economy / Speculation / Re: Even if it does crash... (is that possible?) on: April 09, 2013, 08:32:45 PM
Even if it crashes to 20 I wouldn't sell. And I bought in around 100.

The general consensus of the newcomers around here is that they are greedy and ignorant, looking to make a quick buck.

I'm investing as a FU to central bankers who have been responsible for so much death and immorality the past 100 years that its mind boggling. I believe in what BTC stands for, and I believe it will ultimately succeed. Freedom is popular.

Fly me to the moon
Let me swing among those stars
Let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars

In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you
1750  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Hundreds of people have lost money using bitinstant on: April 09, 2013, 02:38:45 PM
I've had multiple successful orders with them, most fulfilled in minutes. One took a few hours.

As I understand they have a small staff dealing with the issues. Just gotta be patient. They aren't out to scam anyone.
1751  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Worst case scenario: gov/banking manipulation at the root of this "bubble" on: April 09, 2013, 06:31:10 AM
So governments would seek to destroy bitcoin by making it wildly successful?
1752  Economy / Speculation / Re: those who are buying know something I don't on: April 09, 2013, 06:16:41 AM
Bitcoin is not scalable to a national economy, much less a global economy (hell, it can barely handle the number of transactions from satoshi dice), so all of the talk you hear around here about replacing any currency is silly.

That's what Paul Krugman predicted about the internet in 1998.

shades of grey Monday :/

1755  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Party on: April 07, 2013, 09:03:07 PM
Bitcoin early adopters could throw one hell of a party, that's for sure.
1756  Economy / Speculation / Re: Greed will catch up with you. on: April 07, 2013, 06:19:53 PM
Both me and my girlfriend recently invested some of our savings in BTC because currently in the UK you make absolutely nothing on your savings due to how crap the economy is at the moment. Our opinion was if we can make 10% over a year then were happy as that's more than we'd make currently.

I think most likely there are lots of other people in similar positions right now thinking the exact same thing, not necessarily thinking short term, but medium term for investments as they are fed up of the banks making all the profit, taking government bail outs and making nothing on their hard earned savings.

Also, I do use my BTC when I can, I have used them to buy goods online from the few places that currently accept them, it would be nice for adoption to increase over the next year then maybe the money me and my girlfriend invested won't get cashed out but instead used to buy things in BTC instead.

Same here. My wife and I were just commenting on the prices of food compared to last year. The government seems to blame it on just about everything else when it's obvious inflation is the culprit. Gas prices too.

People are desperate for a solid currency that they can save without its value being stolen through inflation.
1757  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the expected appreciation of Bitcoins? on: April 06, 2013, 06:12:38 PM
I think if the Silk Road has any form of schism or even remote competition that bitcoin will drastically lower in price

You need to think of it from a practical standpoint, not just trends.

people use this stuff to buy drugs, period. That is what drives this economy. The sooner you accept that the sooner you realize bitcoin, litecoin, terracoin, whosgivesafuckcoin, all that matters is that its anonymous and some form of currency with backing projects like SR, BitInstant, Mtgox, btc-e, etc behind it that matters.

How much business does silkroad do? The average person cant even find it. It's probably like 1% of the bitcoin economy.
1758  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WTF is with the mainstream media and Bitcoin? on: April 06, 2013, 05:56:08 PM
Anyone who followed Ron Paul's campaign closely last election (also the one before) will not be surprised by this. The negative journalism and outright lies were reprehensible. Of course his big issue is about the dangers of central banking. Can't have a candidate upsetting the status quo gravy train.

We are stabbing at the heart of the beast; don't expect any help from the presstitutes. They will go down kicking and screaming.
1759  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I love you all. on: April 06, 2013, 04:32:01 AM
Freedom is popular guys.

Nice to be with you all Cheesy
