I think we will know when bitcoin has attracted too much attention when the US Government outlaw it. As in, anyone doing business in bitcoins is classified as a money transfer business and either has to get a licence or quit it. At the moment the wall street bankers are attracting most of the attention of Government trying to recoup some money from 2008 fiasco. But if bitcoin gains too much attention, and somehow is no longer is allowed in the USA, see how strong the coin will be then.
i'm in the us and am worried about this scenario. I assume the price would drop dramatically if the US tried to ban it, but if China and much of the world uses bitcoin, wouldn't the value simply spring back up?
Yes, the US would simply get left behind in this scenario, and would be incredibly stupid and short-sighted to do so.

It's funny to me that the newcomers to Bitcoin are so much more fanatic/deluded than some like me who bought coins at <1 USD.
If you've actually lived the history, it gives you a different perspective. Not necessarily the correct one though ..... Last time we were here, Gox was lagging and getting DDOSed to hell. And it was the leading exchange.

Yeh cant wait to sent my fingerprint to anyone who wants them. I can buy anything i want, but only to get some bitcoins at this machines i need to give a hand scan, truly ground-breaking. Anonymity, LOL
I believe it scans your palm to create a unique image, blood vessels and all. This is to identify people so they don't cross the $3000 limit.

I was thinking:
Many people hold tens of thousands of coins (see rpietillas TOP 500 for some info). That means lots of coins are in the hands of some wealthy elite that are already rich and have not immediate need to cash out anything. That's not wealth, that's power. Having 1% of the total coins is purely power.
What if we would have a prolonged downtrend (not violent) to $5-10 for let's say 2 years? May of them will cash out, even partially. We need a good distribution of the coins and I do not think that stronghands can be shaken otherwise.
We don't need anything. Sounds like you want cheaper coins, but that's for the market to decide.

It's the information that isn't in this thread we need answers to. If I ask to have my stuff shipped will anyone even read the message? All of my other messages have been ignored. I have received no replies from steamboat since he took my money. I was never offered a refund. I have received no offer to have my hardware shipped.
I log on here to find out my orders were supposed to be refunded already and that other people are getting emails from steamboat. I've asked repeatedly how to get in touch with him because everything I've sent to date has been ignored.
Chad
Send steamboat an email with a signed message from the address you used to send payment. Refunds are long gone, but that might get his attention.

The world is quickly going all digital and will leave behind those who lack the foresight to adapt.
First it was the digital photo business which sunk Kodak, now companies like Hewlett Packard are having a difficult time adapting in a world where people print less and less. My wife works directly with HP's upper management on advertising decisions, and she will be the first to tell you that the old executives are very staunch in their beliefs, opinionated, and the amount of waste that goes on is staggering. These huge companies are somewhat dysfunctional and don't always make logical decisions. They recently killed a $1 million project right before completion because one person lacked vision and pulled the plug. Money down the drain. They barely even had a Facebook presence before she started working with them last year.
I give HP as an example of the corporate lumbering dinosaur that is struggling to stay relevant.. Now with Bitcoin threatening WU's business model I see the older, more stubborn executives sitting back in their leather-bound offices smelling of rich mohagony, smoking their hubris cigars. Bitcoin a threat? Ha!

That particular story seems to have grown some legs.
Also the FBI can't just dump the coins whenever. See the thread about it in the legal section.
Edit: after perusing the comment sections of these stories, seems that many are genuinely curious and less skeptical. They don't want to miss the boat this time.

Technical Analysis doesn't claim to be scientific and has nothing to do with science. But that has nothing to do with its usefulness
TA simply attempts to apply mathematical formulas to the mass psychology of financial markets.

What does it mean exactly that it's listed there? That it is making its way to the market. That the twins have bought something like one hundred thousand bitcoins - at what price, we don't know - and are about to cash out some of them. I thought they needed the 100k to represent the value of the ETF.
