Economy / Speculation / Re: Confirmed Bad News Sources Thread - No FUD, Just Facts!!!1

Now we have four large a country of where Bitcoin is severely sanctioned, or half of the earth, in an area with about 2.8 billion people.
1. China 2. India 3. Kanada 4. Russija
Yes, I think this clearly shows that demand for bitcoin is saturated. Satoshi's code only allows for adoption by a few countries. Multiple confirmed sources have confirmed this in the developer subforum. Look at the code for yourself, it's patently obvious. Once we reach a certain amount of network nodes, there is a failsafe in the protocol that exposes Bitcoin to the Adoption Attack. It's a feedback loop that destroys the network from the inside. Sell now while the train hasn't derailed yet.

Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Americans can move to Puerto Rico for 1/2 year to avoid Cap Gains Tax?

In the US, if you hold onto a capital gains asset for more than a year and make less than $72k (married) or $36K (single) the effective tax rate on that asset is 0%, as it's considered a long-term capital gain. If in a higher income bracket, the lowest you can get it down to is 15%. Short term cap. gains are taxed at significantly higher rates.
This is one reason I might consider filling my 1040 separately from my wife next year.
The law-talkin' guys will correct me if I'm wrong, of course.

Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Street Sees Bitcoin Legacy as Payment System

Bitcoin operates by an incorruptible and publicly audited set of business rules, and could not pump and dump itself if it wanted to. Bolded for emphasis. This is precisely the reason Wall Street and institutional adoption will be interesting, and not necessarily a bad thing. Finally we can see them as individuals and not suits who use their power and influence to game the markets then run crying to their friends in Congress or the SEC when things don't go their way. It will make them think twice before using their resources to manipulate the market, as Uncle Sugar won't be there to bail them out this time.

Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary

Bkkcoins work has not only helped this community, but his BOM and PCB have been adapted and copied many times. The Kondike has served as the basis for Technobit's miners, as well as a template probably for potential Litecoin mining ASIC pcb's as well, and who knows what other inspirations and technological innovations.
Accidents happen, and nothing is perfect. People lose bitcoins all the time, and they live through it, without brain damage.
That is not the case for real life accidents. I appreciate what he has done to a tremendous degree, however it doesn't make it right for him to ignore his debts. I won't accept the not-small amount Chris owes me as some sort of collateral damage for the good of the greater mining community. That's ridiculous.

Why always "talking book" when someone expresses an opinion...
Generally, on this specific subforum, it's a valid assumption. I mean more so that it's sort of a moot point. Obviously if I post a buy/sell target, that's my position. But there is this nagging assertion around here that this is done to manipulate price. That seems absurd to me, but I guess some people put a lot more weight on this forum than others. During the December bear market (and more so during panics) half of the speculation forum turns to italics... meaning trolls, fudsters, sock puppets, and angry bears with nothing better to do. They mysteriously turn up at the most opportune times. Coincidence? They are effective at instilling fear during crashes. Comments like THE CHINESE ARE SELLING ON STAMP can really get your heart going at the bottom of a long trend.

Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] (BRAND NEW, Unopened) Sapphire HD 7990 6GB GDDR5

The card retailed almost a year ago for 999$. The LOWEST price now on ebay is 1340$. The card has not lost any value in 10 months, there is no way it will half in just 3 months.
If I can't sell it here, I can just ebay it.
To be honest I don't care much if I can sell it quick. In 3 months I can have over 50% of the value back from mining alone so no worries here.
I just replied to all PMs, please check your inbox. Apologies for the late reply, the forum didn't alert me that I have new PMs for some reason.
1) Wait a second. If you can mine half it's value back in 3 months, then it's not a brand-new, unopened GPU. And if you don't mine on it, you've lost out on 3 months worth of mining, and essentially lost even MORE money. So which is it? 2) There are all kinds of other 7990s on ebay. Most of them are selling for 800-900. Yes, this is a Sapphire, and those are going for a little bit more, but not that much. And just because one is on ebay for 1340 doesn't mean people are going to buy them for that price. Look at the completed listings. That will tell you the actual price: not what people are trying to sell it for, but what people are actually buying it for. See the difference? You're a few hundred over the mark. The ones selling for $8-900 are used. I have not seen one go for less than $800 unless there was something wrong with it. A few NIB appeared on Newegg recently but they go fast. Price is between $800 and $1200 generally, depending on supply and demand. As of today these new XFX are $900 but they won't last. As far as I can tell the XFX7990 is the reference design, albeit with a horrendous looking heatsink marketed as "triple dissipation" lol, so it should hash just as fast as the other 7990s. One 7990 is on par with 2 280x but you must run them at 1100/1500 to get 1.5Mh requiring better fans and vrm cooling.

So we will have another dip then? We had that SR dip last time after 130.
If we are going to extrapolate, might as well extrapolate everything.
Nobody really knows anything. Variables infinite.

Thank you so much - the voltage really was the key. Getting 1350 now with similar settings. Going to download GPUz now and see what the VRM sensors look like. Thanks! No problem dude. Your VRM temp is probably fine around 87C. What kind of case do you have also? I really had to get some serious airflow through the case to keep things in order. I've got 6 120mm fans feeding air through, though I've resorted to taking the side of the case off and putting a room fan blowing into the case, the way the cooling works on that card it superheats the interior of the case so if you don't vent it you will have some serious problems! Good luck! I should note that I had to watercool mine to get 1.5Mh/s @ 1100/1500. I can't seem to adjust the voltage in afterburner though, would be nice if I could get it down a bit. My vrms stay around 65-75 even under water. One bank is 8-10C cooler than the other; I noticed this on air too. Man these run hot! Unfortunate that the factory heatsinks are entirely too small with way too much thermal grease smeared on them.
