^^^ I think anything to do with big players adopting Bitcoin is good news and will help it in the long run.

Even Silk Road was good for Bitcoin, but I don't sell (or even do) drugs, and not endorsing it of course.

We don't need to love PayPal (I don't—I just use it rarely for eBay purchases), but I welcome the recent news. When a tool, method, idea, whatever, is really good, everyone will use it for both good and evil. That's how it is and has always been. Can't change it. Can't blame the nuclear physics pioneers for the atomic bomb. Blame the political leaders. As abominable and evil as it may be, the atomic bomb strengthened and proved the validity of their theories.

All is good.
Marching on.

HoDL.

hey everyone has panic sold something at some point (admit now.. well, except bob with his titanium training) but that was.. well that was some next level shit.

I still remember the "China bans bitcoin" crash of 2013 like it was yesterday. I was at the airport, watching the chart on my phone. It was all a nonstop sea of red straight down, and within an hour had falling well below my average buy in price. I felt sick, and certainly had many of these same thoughts.

But I hodled on. Refused to panic sell.

Yeah, it's happened to me too. In early January 2017 I had bought some coins around $1100 and then it dumped to under $800 (IIRC). I tried to sell on the way down, but Kraken saved me by not executing the order, due to their server s/w being run on ZX Spectrum 48Ks... Thank you Kraken, you saved me some losses from selling and rebuying.

So yeah, it's not so easy to keep your cool, especially in the early years of HoDLing. Would not do that now though. I feel I know how to handle it now, after years of HoDL hardening...

I CERTAINLY do not think PP's motivations are altruistic in any way.

But this continues to make my point.  Bitcoin does not care if you are altruistic or you are  bastard.  And it will crush you if you stand in it's way.  Over and over that has happened.  And I expect we will watch companies that try to game it, or own it, or overcome it, or break it be destroyed by it.  Possibly PP.

But I would think they can work any greed angle that aligns with the network.  Bitcoin does not care.

Also I think altruism can cause us to stand in the way of Bitcoin as well... and it will run over the altruistic just the same as the bastard.

Exactly.

The word "altruistic" is not in Bitcoin's vocabulary. In fact, it only understands 2048 words. The rest is hexadecimals and base58.

"Help muh famalie" LOL! Epic!

Super-cool hat too!

@LFC: Nice collection of mindrust quotes. Never read them before. Gives a good insight into the "mindrust mindset"...

IMHO, buying Bitcoin via PayPal is still HoDLing.

-- Grannies/newbies/skeptics/conservatives/whoever, buy Bitcoin via PayPal.
-- They feel good that there is a big player safeguarding their coins.
-- They spend time educating themselves on Bitcoin tech and security matters.
-- While doing the above, they enjoy the big profits when Bitcoin mega-pumps after the 2020 Halving.
-- At some point, they feel they are ready to take true possession of their coins.
-- They gradually convert their coins to fiat and withdraw from PayPal.
-- They deposit said fiat to an exchange of their choice, convert to Bitcoin and withdraw to their own wallets.
-- Their keys, their Bitcoin!

So, something that many people would not do directly, they may now be willing to do via PayPal. I don't see this as bad.

In any case, Bitcoin is out, for anyone and everyone to use, abuse, attempt to destroy, or whatever. The algorithm is there, it's out in the wild. There is no point in preventing or forbidding anyone to do anything with it. That would be against Bitcoin ethics anyway. The big test for Bitcoin is whether it can survive if PayPal, Wall Street, and whoever else, do anything they please with it.

Bitcoin doesn't need some higher power protecting it from bad guys. Its algorithm and its design are its protection.

Tone Vays livestream is actually talking about how paypal purchasing bitcoin on their platform, you will not be able to withdraw to another account after buying it. Undecided
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WtP8nRsnJ0

"Not your keys, not your Bitcoin" comes to mind...

Edit: At least, users can enjoy the profits from price appreciation, even without owning the keys.

Information overload!

Came back from work to see several pages of WO posts and Bitcoin price pumping hard. Hungry as hell, and the first thing I do is open Firefox, which leads me straight to WO. Addicted? Probably. Enjoying it? Immensely!

Don't worry about PayPal. Bitcoin is Bitcoin. It is what it is. Let anyone use it as anyone pleases. That's the beauty of it. Anything you do with it, you cannot harm it. The more anyone uses it, the better for all of us.

And if you can harm it, then the experiment has failed.

So, to PayPal and everyone else, I say, USE IT and ABUSE IT as much as you want. All the better for us!

Yes! 10k € conquered (again)!

Thinking of the time when the numbers in our posts have one extra digit...

Man, it's just too mind-Bogdanoff-boggling to even imagine...

Looks like 10k € is coming very soon.

Unless we Bart.

Not into drugs. Not even into alcohol, despite the forum nick.

But...

I so vividly remember the very first time (one of the very few times) I've smoked cannabis. 1st-year uni student, in my girlfriend's dorm room (she wasn't even my girlfriend then), together with 2 more couples. Some lying on the bed, some on the floor, passing joints between us. Nirvana playing loud (on a cassette tape!). One of the best experiences in my life. I will never forget it. And her. Don't know where she is now. Wish I could meet her again. Sweet, kind, free girl.

Memories...

Albert Einstein said:
"Gravity is not a force."
And space-time was bent!

Nakamoto said:
"There should be no need for trust."
And Bitcoin was born!

Science does not lie.
6 experiments per hour,
10+ years non-stop!

Confirming to all,
How smart we were when we bought,
In twenty-fifteen.

Friends called us crazy,
Governments called us pedos,
We call them stupid!

To those who cannot...
...see what's in front of their eyes,
I've one thing to say:

"If you don't get it,"
"I don't have time to try to..."
"...convince you, sorry."

This is also very funny, while being serious (found further down in your Twitter link) — Enable sound:

Certainly raised a smile...

Edit: It's hard not to be a fan of a guy who simply takes his (listed) company's cash pile of hundreds of millions of dollars and puts it in Bitcoin.

Very true. In fact, had many of us (including myself) put most, if not all, of our fiat in Bitcoin years ago, we would now be orders of magnitude wealthier. You've got to take risks... Smart guy!

Meh, when 12?

Wait your turn, 10k EUR milestone first!  Wink

Soon man, soon.

Before the end of the weekend.

I did hope you'd be right, but no. I guess that we are simply too bullish...

Yeah, I hoped so too.

It was a SOMA guess, as all such guesses are.

We'll get there soon. I think 2021 will be a Carolina year.

While the improvement the researchers established is vanishingly small, computer scientists hope this breakthrough will inspire rapid further progress.

Nice, thanks.
