Cricket match prediction discussions

No sure bud. I think it's only few matches between only two teams to predict win-lose only. A pool like this kind is better when there are more teams like we have seen in IPL and World cup kind of tournament. If anyone has any idea then feel free to propose or start. I will give my full support. I am looking forward to the next big tournament, possibly T20 world cup, champions league, next IPL which are popular for all nations.

By the way, we have now few new and very specific topics for cricketing. Have you noticed these:

Merging several tournaments like the Ashes and the India-West Indies ODI tournament etc could lead to a bigger pool in this case. Am not sure if you can do that since I never dealt with creating pools before.

Will check out the threads that you mentioned asap. Good to see more and more Cricket related threads popping up. Self-moderating them is another plus point.

I think it's better to maintain this thread only other than any special tournament since this thread is the oldest one. Otherwise, it will look spammy since people will bump each thread regularly which will sometimes be part of spam also.

I think that not the right way. A player can play according to their will. Denying to play for the national team does not mean that they can not continue in other international leagues. A player is free to sign up with any team/league.

We have seen AB as an example. The same with football to I think.

This same statement applies to India too who possess some hard hitters who can finish game on their day. It all comes down to how good each side bowls at the end of the day.

Seem like a lot of us is thinking West Indies can make an impact and win the T20 series :-)

The extra pressure for India is to maintain their standard and perform according to the expectation. This is a huge disadvantage for India. If they can not handle the pressure then they will suffer and if they perform bad in the opening match then game on for West Indies.

Considering the T20 team, WI have some strong batting line up once Andre Russell is back. IN T20 WI are the champions only thing is that they lack consistency and not as a unit the team plays. Else it can easily beat some of the best teams.

In the shorter format of the game anyone who has some strong hitters could change the course of the game at any moment, West Indies have some big hitters in their ranks who could change the match in a short period of time. You cannot expect consistency with power hitters and the T20 format is tailor made for power hitters who could smack the ball from the first ball and there are not many players who can do that. I wonder what Bradman could do if they were to play the T20 version of cricket  .

Well, in the case of AB, South African cricket board did the right thing by NOT selecting him for the world cup (even though I believe that he'd have proved to be great for the team during the world cup if he had played). But anyway, I don't think that we can agree on whether it's right for cricketers to play for leagues when they should be playing for their own country or not, because we've got a difference of opinion in this regard.

I didn't get to watch the match but it would of been good to see as to why so many wickets fell in one day. Can Ireland get the win and put England on the back foot ahead of the Ashes series? I guess so Ireland will get the win and will take down england badly. That's based on how I see their standings from the previous game they had. Although England had their best players, but I still prefer the courage and teamwork of Ireland. As strong position leads their way to another potential wins, they should be more focus on their team goals.

Soon after such a big winning of the world cup England will be watched around. Now giving such a performance is really bad. Another side it shows the improving bowling line up of Ireland. The second day of the match will show what's gonna happen to the match result. A strong comeback is a must in the second innings is a must for England to win the match.

Some times a team may have bad day like England had yesterday and they were all out for 85. But i do not think they will repeat the same performance today in their 2nd innings. Ireland have to get them cheaply out, if they want to win this test match. England can still pull out this test if they manage to give 250+ target to Ireland.

Although England did win the ODI world cup but this does not mean that their test team is so low quality that they get out on so low score. That was just a bad day for them. And you mean to say that England test team is not enough good to play against the Ireland ? You need to think again.

You are missing the point here. The current English test side does not include all the World Cup winning team players which is why it is unfair to compare in this manner.

I am afraid this is no excuse to defend England that the test team members are different than the ODI ones and hence they perform bad against Ireland.
Check the ranking of England and Ireland of the test matches and you will find that England test ranking is far superior than the Ireland.

I am all open for community feedback. If I see there are not much activities on those topics then I won't hesitate to lock them. But I agree with others that we need different topics for different format of cricket.

If you look at football then you will see that they have different topics for different leagues. Like for EPL, CL, Serie A etc. Plus they have these pools in the separate thread. When we will have specific topics then it's more useful to discuss in dept. Everything in a topic most of the times miss important conversations.
