Why are people scared of taxes?

I can't be certain but I'm sure Norway has been voted one of the happiest nations, but has one of the highest rates of personal tax. What's their secret?

As we can see from a lot of posts, the problem are not taxes - we all agree that a contribution is necessary - but money misuse by government

because they salary is not enough and they can budget for the whole month then tax is comming gonna get some stuffs of your salary or wages then the tax is going to government specialy police that abuse people and create crime and people thinking the tax is get useless when they see like that going!

I am afraid of tax because i want to get my husband's salary full without any deductions from the government. If i do have a choice, i don't want him to pay taxes at all.

People scared of paying taxes because the higher their business and their salary income the more they get to pay... lessen their money and sometimes their doubtful of what and where would they money be, is it worth? or sometimes they thought of giving to charity instead of paying taxes because they saw the immediate result of what they give rather than giving it to the government whom sometimes politician corrupt.

for me having a family business we got to pay a huge amount of taxes, taxes that most of the time is not being used by the country but being corrupted by government officials. sometimes they also make the taxes doubled just to have more money to corrupt.

One word. Greed. They don't want to give up their gains. The housing market crashed because a lot of people didn't want to be taxed and they kept reinvesting and they couldn't even afford what they were buying in the first place. I think holding to pay less is okay but not to get rid of completely.

taxes are actually a great thing but only if everyone pays them and if they are spend on useful things only. Just look out your window and you will see lots of things paid with your taxes you use everyday.

Because it lessen the salary BIGTIME and most of the government official are not using it properly. But yes it is helps in otherway it's because some of them are nice people anyway. I'm a scholar so I can say it can help us in the other way but it can't be helped that in a basket of fruits some are really rotten or have a worm in it.

The answer is simple, it is money taken away from your pocket and you don't really know were it will be spent. Citizens can only assume where their taxes go. You might be living in a great country were you will see that the taxes you paid was worth it. It is not the same situation in other countries. Taxes are great if the government was using it right. It is an obligation of every citizen but others are just making money out of it. That is the reason why others chose to avoid paying tax and keep the money for themselves. We are paying tax in everything that we purchase anyway.

It is our duty to pay taxes no matter what the reason we have. Government moves smoothly because of taxes, without it government would have a hard time dealing with the needs of the country. The result of it will always affect the citizens.

Too many infrastructures and other projects, services are going on day by day because of taxes, imagine if the one of those needs to halt its operation because of lack of budget.

In my opinion people are not afraid of taxes, but if you cant see any progress, development or even a slight improvement in your community then people will wonder where are their hard earned money going. That's where the corrupt official comes in, in our country before a project will start there's a lot of people who will get a commission from that project or a lot of deductions and then at the end of it no project will start at all because the money was already spent by these corrupt individuals. Is this fair? If you are one of the tax payers?

Yes, if they use all the money for the community and not for personal interest or super debt payments. My country has an enormous debt and uses almost 60% of taxes to pay it

Hmm.. you are probably living on welfare benefits and may not have worked for a living ever in your life. With regards to the taxes, we don't have a problem in paying them as long as they meet certain conditions. These are:

1. Everyone must pay the taxes
2. The tax rates must be affordable

As long as these conditions are not met, I would advice people against paying any taxes.

Taxes are really great and very helpful when you run a country. It just happen that the people handling the funds is very corrupt. It would really great to see where your taxes go, but as of now we can't blame people if they don't want to pay anymore. We only wished to see our money to go right projects and see the improvements as well since this is our money that we worked so hard for days and nights.

It is the duty of the government to inform and take consent from the tax payers before the tax revenues are used for classified causes such as warfare. Here in India, there is a lack of transparency on how the tax money is being spent, and even the change of the government in 2014 hasn't helped much in this regard.
