However when i run CGminer i just get errors that it does not have permission;

do you use the special cgminer (I think so) or the normal version ?

Hi all,

I am the next one asking for some help  
I almost read all of the pages in this post but I am not able to get the Compac Miners from Bitshopper working as expected.

I am using this hub: http://www.amazon.com/ORICO-Charging-Adapter-Windows-H10C1-U3/dp/B00HSHN82K/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1453394936&sr=8-4&keywords=orico+10+port
with two miners in it.

I am also using bfgminer with compac support enabled.
The usb hub is running on my Linux box (standard desktop pc) because I am running an Bitcoin full node so there is no need for me to take one of my PI's for it

Both sticks are just running fine with .674V and 125MHz. But then the speed is "just" 8.26GH/s per each miner. I tried almost everything (spinning the potentiometer with setting the MHz to almost everything between 125 and 300). I can get the sticks running very well with different configurations and about 16 to 17 GH/s average. But after 10 minutes the sticks stop working, no hardware error or something like this.
I even dont see any message using journalctl stating that the sticks are disconnected.

Does someone has a hint for me what I can try next to get more hash power out of these miners?

on that hub you are limited to 0.9A/slot, which is probably why it does not work at some settings that you tried. Solution-a different hub (Anker with up to 2A/slot works fine on Linux) or Y-cables (cheaper). Search Y-cables on this thread-there are dozens of posts. something like this:

With this one I am unsure how to interpret the information. They say that these IQ ports gives you max 2.1 amp power while the other ports giving .900 amps and in my opinion I cannot use the IQ ports for my miner because they transfer no data.

I don't see any USB 2.0 or 3.0 uplink port.  There is only the four pin round connector, which I'm thinking is for power!  This may have the word hub in it, but its not a hub, its only a charging station.  Has power, but doesn't connect to computers.

My simple solution, although I am only running 2 Stcks, is just to hack the Hub and connect up a decent 5V PSU directly to the Power connections.

I am using the "Special" version from the first post is the one im using. I have tried it on multiple windows machines now running as admin and not admin (command prompt). And still getting the same issue Any advice would be appreciated!

nevermind anker-it also has 0.9, my mistake, I edited the original post. Plugable has the right slots (at least 1.5A), and everyone favorite-Superbpag, which is now either gone or changed to simply PAG, but I cannot find it easily, somehow.

Re OP on windows: too much hassle on windows. A lowly and cute rasp pi does the job or install linux (could work in a dual boot mode), like Ubuntu.
Absolutely no probs there as far as running is concerned.

In order not to flood, although it may be applicable, I sent Morguk 4 hubs that I found on Amazon, one of which is rated 5 stars by a miner.

So *my* understanding on how to find amps per port.  Take the input, which on Amazon UK you have inputs at 12v by #a, as well as 5v by #a.  Considering that, we'll assume 2A.  12*2=24Watts.  Watts divided by volts = amps.  So 24/5=4.8 total amps for the system.  Then divide that by the number of ports to get average amps per port at 5v. 

Note that USB runs at 5v, so the voltage of the input needs to be converted to 5v.  So if you're looking at an input of 5v*2a you have 2a for all ports, but 12v*2a is 4.8a for all ports - so the input is important.

NOW number of ports: the fewer the ports vs the higher total amps is better.  Some chipsets will actually amp limit if you draw over a certain level, but take into consideration that the device only takes the amps that it needs.  You can have 10a on a port, but if the stick only need 1.4 it will only use 1.4.  But the same stick in a 0.9a will only get 0.9a or, depending on circuitry it will deliver more till it reaches a certain point and then cuts power to prevent overheat internal to the hub.

When it comes to routing the electricity to the ports, its more expensive to regulate every single last port.  You can cut your costs in half on that aspect by regulating two ports on the same line.  So that means that branch would get 2x(per port amps), ie 0.9x2=1.8A per branch - so what that means is that the hardware only watches to ensure that that branch doesn't draw over 1.8a, so as long as you use one stick per branch you can have all the amps through that single port.

Ive no idea how to split up 7 ports, but on the 9 port mentioned earlier (it says 10 port but the 10th is a charging only port) there were three on/off switches - which leads me to believe that its a 3 branch, and while you may only have .9a per port, you actually have 2.7a per branch.  You can overclock one stick, doubtful two, so you'd only be able to use three sticks there (one per branch).  However there is probably enough to drive a fan each as well on those branches - they don't use much amperage, and you could have one fan per stick and be safe and cool.

OTOH the hubs provided to Morguk are 10 ports, and I would be they're split in pairs, so that means 5 sticks. 

But sidehack would probably be able to correct me on any of this.  I only have approximate knowledge of many things.

Y'all are talking about brands and models of hubs I know nothing about. When I wanted a hub to provide high current to sticks, I got a cheap Chinese 10-port off eBay for about eight dollars and spent half an hour beefing the rails with star power to a molex. Until the jack connections started failing from frequent unplug-replug after testing six hundred sticks in it, the thing worked well enough for my needs. I really don't fork out for high-power consumer stuff if I can get something basic and make it high-power with stuff I already have. So, really, unless I start building my own hubs, my advice on hubs is not terribly worthwhile to most people.

I was more referring to the concepts of how to determine the amps per port rating, and my suspected yet unconfirmed notion that the power regulation devices within a given hub work usually in pairs, so that you can safely draw 1.8a out of one port in a pair of ports on a USB 3.0 hub.  (and that a 9 port with 3 power switches is probably regulating 2.7a over three ports)

I've never used a hub with current-limited ports, or one with internal regulators, or one with switches, or one with USB3. Except for the VA math behind power calculations, I can't comment on anything else you posted. I don't buy fancy stuff. I buy simple stuff, and if it's not good enough I make it good enough.

I don't know how to mod a hub. I have a soldering iron and can follow a detailed guide, but until there's one then I'm stuck.

I'm in the UK so I can't get the awesome US hubs. The only hub that seems good is £70 and there's no way I'm paying that. Then there's a few others, but I would have to risk it and hope that every other port supplies 1.8a. I can't afford to risk it and buy several hubs.

I just want to be able to mine at 15GH/s. Why is this so difficult?!

There's plenty of info on here about modding hubs. Basically, you find the 5V and GND pins; you wire those pins to a big fat connector; you hook that big fat connector to a high-current 5V source (like an old ATX supply perhaps). You want to cut the 5V on the jack coming in from your computer to prevent backfeed issues. Now you have a cheap yet powerful USB hub.

Have you tried simply unplugging and replugging them while cgminer is running?

Hi thanks for your reply, yes im aware of the address. However i was just trying to get it working once its working i was planning on changing it to my own

I have tried;

Un pluging the miner and plugging it back in
trying different ports (usb 2 and 3)
trying a different machine
trying bgminer which give me this error

I'm not really sure what else to try

one one of my machines (windows 7)
The light on the hub port that its connected to turns off as if its disconnecting (this doesnt happen on the others)
This means i cannot even get it to show in zadig. Which is annoying as that  was the machine i actually wanted to use.

Edits its showing now on w7 and i did the zadig update drivers but still getting a privileged error with cgminer.
