Yesterday I bought gold with BTC and yes now I can definitely say that BTC is real money. When used on the internet it does not give that "real" taste but then when used in the real world is just amazing what we have achieved here.

Gold?Huh Wooohhh I want that.. How you do it? Kindly please tell me how cause there are also some friends of mine who wants to invest some of their bitcoin through gold. They say it is the precious metal that will stay at a high price even in the future. Gold Gold Gold.

I bought a gold coin from a friend of mine: we agreed on the price and we made the transaction.

If you want to buy virtual gold that can be redeemed later on you could try vaultoro.

For me it's more like a gold: it has certain value, but I am not using BTC in daily basis transactions. Bitcoin has still long way to go to become everyday payment mean for masses.

Wikipedia always has the answer for everything:

"Money is any item or verifiable
record that is generally accepted as
payment for goods and services and
repayment of debts in a particular
country or socio-economic context,
 or is easily converted to
such a form. The main functions of
money are distinguished as: a
medium of exchange ; a unit of
account; a store of value; and,
sometimes, a standard of deferred
payment.Any item or verifiable
record that fulfills these functions
can be considered money."

Too easy to see that BTC fullfills all requeriments above, so BTC is money

This makes the space for discussion, as there could be everyone's own perception of money term, to be described in this thread Smiley

Great. So wikipedia did have an answer for this. I guess that says everything. On the old days they just use silver copper or gold. And that is money too. Soil can be a money too if it is used as an unit for exchange or make it valuable.

No, it cant. Payment mean must operate with something that is hard (or impossible) to obtain another way than receiving payment. You can't get as much Bitcoins, gold, silver or secured bank notes as you want with practically no effort. With soil, you can.

Theoretically it depends on amount - soil has some value, but you would need huge amounts to pay for everything you need. Maybe truck of soil is worth few bucks (I am afraid that transportation is far more expensive), but it makes no sense to use this as a payment Smiley

Soil is everywhere around us, if you have the wish you can go outside with shovel and obtain amount whatever you like to, thus nobody will exchange this for anything more valuable. Is it as easy to get any animal? Do you can go outside and get as many cows, chickens as you want? I don't say that soil can not be exchanged, but it has such low value that make no sense to use it as a daily payment mean.

Well, actually, I think it all depends on "local" supply and demand.  Some places a pair of old jeans is worth hundreds of dollars on one side of a fence but that same pair of old jeans can be found in a charity box on the other side of that fence.  I've seen many things act as currency in different micro-economies around the world, cigarettes, noodles, soaps, shells, beetles, dung....yes, even chickens and cows!

Think about it....location is important when measuring value:
In Latin America, way back in the day, gold was abundant until the Spaniards came and carried it away.

Now bitcoins has become proper currecy because it is using worldwide. It is real cash for me because I am doing my all transactions in BTC. Many people using it daily for their transactions. BTC already taken the place of real money in day to day life and helps to make online payments more easier.

I see Bitcoin as "real money" in the sense that it is not difficult for me to buy gift cards with it, and then use those gift cards to buy stuff like I normally would. Plus I can send and receive transactions with someone anywhere on Earth at the other end. That's something you can't do with Paypal, BTW -- it still doesn't operate in a lot of countries.
