It's not a bad strategy to be honest, there is some merit to the buy-n-forget-for-a-bit type of thinking. Bitcoin's trend (aside from the spike in 2013) has been upwards, and so chances are it would stay that way for at least a while. It's better to not look at your balance a majority of the time, as it can cause you to get nervous or rethink everything if you see the value of Bitcoin go down slightly, and put unnecessary stress on you.
