Again, I could be way out of line here, but look at this for a minute. And this is the cream of the crop. There are 'conferences' all over the place, doing 'talks'
Really? Is this Bitcoin now? 'FinTech'. Give me one good reason.
It's not amazing.

Seems like even those conferences are into bands. A crypto band?

According to Kredit Karma, almost no one is reporting cryptocurrency gains on their taxes.

It should be noted, that most of Kredit Karma's customers are people with bad credit. One could speculate that they likely haven't bought crypto anyway.

I paid mine. Long and tedious, especially with the high amount of bitcoin spending I do.

I didn't use any bitcoin tools to do so so it took a lot of hand jamming.

I remember when social awareness was just called education. Or being educated.

But I guess it's not PC to say someone is educated because there are soooo many stupid people out there that at most they can be aware of things.

I think this news is premature.  Most crypto holders will file as late as possible since they are writing big checks.  I will send my check TUESDAY.  After then we can begin to see who is reporting.  Also this does not consider extensions.

That said I'll not be surprised if we see underreporting.  But numbers we see now are too early.

I kind of agree, but I still think lots aren't reporting at all.  I called my accountant ahead of time and he said that unless they send out official 1099s from an exchange he wouldn't worry about it (as if it were a joke to file).  I then explained that I did receive a 1099 (from one exchange) and had a compiled a 319 page 8949 using API software and bottom line figures  (which had a few missing cost basis items from a DEX and a wallet but whatever, I may have overpaid a couple of hundred dollars).  The perception is, right or wrong, that people will continue getting away with it.  I'm more afraid of getting future audits years from now over getting caught currently if I didn't file.  I also feel like because of the things I've read online, his reaction, and the sheer amount of effort it takes to even create these forms.. that most people won't know it is required, refuse to do it, or won't know how to with no one to approach including most accountants.  The timing though does line up with your statement though because I just today wrote a check for the amount of taxes I owed.. and even though I think the number of people who waited til today or Tuesday is in the minority..  I am one of them so my logic may be flawed.

There was an Ebola Coin once. Not exactly sure where the proceeds went, but it raised social awareness about the Ebola. Probably.

No it's not amazing. Just a bunch of young people doing a mindshare grab for "Blockchain expert" just to find a high paying job somewhere. I only count about 2-3 people in that roster that I would consider actual crypto experts.

But hey it could be worse. Just wait, in 5-10 years when you see a speaker lineup like that and it's all 40-50 yr old men and women in suits with the "Executive such and such of Blockchain" title, you'll know the crypto/blockchain industry has been completely taken over and compromised by the FinTech nimwit snake oil sales and marketing people.

Can you do that? Reuters says the deadline is Tuesday 17th, but I thought that means they have to receive your payment by Tuesday.

I decided to pay top line income tax, but only on realised gains - if they decide to tax non-realised profits - I don't have a clue how much I'd have to pay, hope that's okay - the rules on how to pay tax are really sketchy

The first thing I do with any new laptop is remove anything mcafee.

The first thing I do with any new laptop is replace the HDD with an SSD (or add an M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD) and do a clean install of Win7.

Yes, McAfee is malware (John M sold the company decades ago and said he'd never install it on any of his own machines) but it's small potatoes compared to Win8 or Win10.

When the operating system itself is PRISM-based malware, bloatware is the least of your worries. Be very careful what OS updates you allow.

I decided to pay top line income tax, but only on realised gains - if they decide to tax non-realised profits - I don't have a clue how much I'd have to pay, hope that's okay - the rules on how to pay tax are really sketchy

Like to like transactions are a taxable event in the US.. if you trade Bitcoin to Ethereum even, that event is the same as cashing out and is a taxable event.  How to do it is very annoying, you'd either have to record every trade throughout the year on a spreadsheet that tracked the value in USD of both coins at the time of the event or you'd have to use API linked software like bitcoin.tax and pay for it.  It has options in the software to remove like-kind trades if you think you can get away with it, but I think your argument here woulnd't stand up very well with being audited.. the problem with being audited is you'll assume no cost basis.. so you'll be taxed as if you had no buy in price, which can really hurt you if you have a large portfolio, along with some sort of penalty up front for not filing.  I'd say the risk of audit this year whether you file or not file is pretty low (unless coinbase sent you a 1099k) but as the years go on it'll become more and more likely.  I'd rather just pay and be able to sleep at night, but having to pay extra money to end up paying more to file to pay more on taxes is kind of a lame scenario.. but it is what it is.

This is always how it goes. Visionaries and geniuses Build Stuff, and then They come in and take it over.

Years ago I saw my first pink laptop in the local shop. That's when I knew the age of technology doubling in power and effectiveness every few years was at an end. And sure enough.

I was clued in that Tech was peaking when the iPhone didn't change at all after several generations, and my five old laptop doesn't do anything less than a current one.

Now they've moved on to useless things like smart watches, wireless doorbells, and in-home spy pods.

And don't even get me starting on the IoT, "Internet of Things". God what snake oil marketing. /facepalm

hey roach, I read your earlier post.

There are two kind of communist jews.

the funny one, they aren't authoritarian and build their keebootz, and force no one to go there. very cool !

then there are the "bolshevicks" who are in reality so called "free masson"... key word aren't jew or communist. but agents of pharao, those who betrayed Moses.

thank you, I am sure YOU can comment, and maybe understood, feel free to PM, if I miss it.

At least IBM seems fairly confident in quantum computing hitting the mainstream industry within 5ish years. So we're not too far off from actually interesting new tech developments.

Still excited, but impatient as hell. Need a fast forward button for life (one that doesn't drain your life span).
