I was humbled by the how. Still not entirely sure about the why. But with so many people trying to blockchain all the things, something is bound to stick and be useful

I'm not sure I will ever agree on this. It's more like irrational exuberance for a piece of tech that nobody understands being trivialized into a buzzword for marketing purposes only. The fact that even after years have passed by and people are still struggling to find a proper ROI use case for it outside of Bitcoin only underscores that.

Watch how irrational I make your statement just by replacing "blockchain" with a blunt but true definition/reality:

"But with so many people trying to blockchain slow database all the things, something is bound to stick and be useful"

And how it ever became a verb I will never know. "Do you even blockchain bro?" Nonsensical.
We could use the blockchain for fraud-proof voting. One digital token per voter, an address to send it to for each party, everything public.

Alts need to sell off in to bitcoin to get a full on bull run

I disagree

The action in the major alts is what makes me think it might be real this time.

https://techcrunch.com/2018/03/14/sierra-leone-just-ran-the-first-blockchain-based-election/

"Why is this interesting? While this is little more than a proof of concept – it is not a complete voting record but instead captured a seemingly acceptable plurality of votes – it’s fascinating to see the technology be implemented in Sierra Leone, a country of about 7.4 million people. The goal ultimately is to reduce voting costs by cutting out paper ballots as well as reducing corruption in the voting process."

Again, Theory vs. Reality.

Reality:

1. The corrupt establishment would never adopt it, because it limits how they can skew/cheat elections

2. Even if they did allow it, the voting blockchain you would get is not the voting blockchain you would want. It would be centralized, controlled, non-transparent, and have backdoors (i.e., corruptable by the establishment once again).

Ok, next valid use case of blockchain with ROI...

A single vote by 350,000,000 people with 250 bytes of data per vote would use over 87.5GB on the blockchain. That's just in a really simple case but usually a ballot has like 50 things on it.

Yeah, it would require a culture that is already functioning in an honest way to begin with. Spartas culture lasted 500 years, but it would not have worked in any other place in the world. It's the people that really matter, and the current lot is not worth much.

So, a small harddrive per election? Worth it.

A small harddrive used up by every node on the blockchain. Would be hard to allocate these resources without the nodes becoming centralized.

ROI?  With real quantifiable numbers?

You're just throwing out pie-meet-sky stuff, with no ROI to back it up. Same as the conference speaking "blockchain disrupters" with no evidence to support.

.....
My hodlings demonstrate conclusively that I understand that this first and greatest decentralized money would -- and will continue to -- appreciate in value, due to its superior characteristics as money. I could have sold it all at $2, $13, $36, $266, $1080, or $20,000, and profited greatly at any of those stages. But I didn't.

Sure, it's not proof of a lot of understanding but it is certainly proof of some understanding. And easily dispatched.

Paashass is the kind of fuckin' coward that taunts others -- knowing he/she would be free of any retribution -- only when thinking the sentiment of the crowd is solidly behind him/her. As in dragging others down, is the only way he/she feels better about him/herself.

Quite frankly, I really don't see how I'm the one in the wrong here.

It's not really about you being in the wrong, but the fact that you so adamantly engaged in a campaign to attempt to undermine bitcoin... so therefore you lost a lot of credibility.. that you may not get back with some folks... and surely, there is some battle here that seems to not be done in the BCash continued attempted attacks on bitcoin, so there remain a number of folks who either don't trust you at all or are very uncomfortable in giving you any kind of benefit of the doubt... and part of that problem likely remains  that some innocent folks are getting fucked over by ongoing misleading aspects of bcash attempting to portray themselves as the real bitcoin (or plausibility of such)... and sometimes even smart people get tricked by that bullshit.

I believe in blockchain but I am strongly opposed to computerized voting in any form.   It is far too easy to corrupt the input with voting machines.

Jbreher

Let’s not kid ourselves here.  Bitcoin Cash is a money grab by Ver, Wu, Ayre, Peter R, Wright and the rest.

http://bitcoinist.com/bitcoin-billionaire-calvin-ayre-building-100m-bcash-resort-antigua/

By continuing to support Bitcoin Cash, you are continuing to openly support fraud.  You will not get any sympathy from us so long as you openly support fraudsters.

Jbreher lost a lot of my respect when he tried to sell the idea that bCash was as decentralized as Bitcoin because the potential set of bCash miners was the same as the potential set of Bitcoin miners. He might as well have been selling undercoating, and he probably knew it

What's even more pertinent than 100GB of harddrive space is 100GB of bandwidth which is a sizeable portion of (or over) the monthly bandwidth cap for most ISPs.

Anybody still holding Byteball? That's one of the few BTC airdrops I never dumped. It seems like it's been tanking the last 8 months though.

Fuck off this thread is for BTC

Yes I hold byteball. The tech is very interesting, but the distribution has been botched. I'm hodling for now though.

FYI he's the thread starter or the OP and the moderator here. So watch your word. Maybe deleted this reply later.
