It depends on its usage. It was linked when the silk road is still available in deep web. But now it is used in daily transactions. It is another way to send money overseas. There are many usage of btc so we can't assume that it is for illegal purposes. Bottomline, it is still depends on the usage of the bitcoin if it is linked to criminality.
yes! You are right that bitcoin is being use if not by us then by criminals but we cannot blame the currency for the whole responsibility is the bitcoin user not the bitcoin because criminality already does exist even without bitcoin so people should stop blaming bitcoin for this because a lot of other people are also trading with bitcoin and they are using bitcoin for all legal purposes so I think it depends on the user that how they deal with bitcoin as legal or illegal.

i doubt it.
criminal activities were happening even before bitcoin. for example the ransomware that everyone is talking about these days have been around a very long time before bitcoin was created!

and besides since bitcoin doesn't offer real anonymity it can not really help the criminals as much as things like hard cash helps them.

criminals use bitcoins for payment only ...

Criminals use bitcoin as payment they are relatively connected to each other. Bitcoin has a feature that is decentralized and cannot controlled by government or anyone from the position. but it is still traceable if they just effort on tracing transactions.

Because bitcoin transactions are public, there is really a chance to track if we really need to but it takes a lot of efforts and resources to do that - not to mentioned if the people illegally transacting it uses different kinds of wallets and it will aggravate the difficulty of tracing it.

Perhaps, but the rise and fall of criminality is not really because of bitcoin per se. Criminality is everywhere dude. All things are good unless used the other way around. Bitcoin is also good just like our fiat. However, fools use them otherwise.

Agree, actually nothing to do with bitcoin Just used improperly so don't worry too much about bitcoin Wink

Well, maybe if you haven't think about the stuff that you can do with Bitcoin using it with different modes of payment, then you are a good person probably. It's just that, people have said it because Bitcoin could be a perfect way to launder money and transfer it anywhere with a minimum amount of fee and I think that has happened but we can never be sure. The point is, it's not Bitcoin that makes criminals, it's how criminals deal their things using Bitcoin.

Again it is based on how people will use bitcoin, Bitcoin is created for easy and hassle free transactions. It is not created to do criminalities but some people used it for such activity. we cannot stop them from doing this things as bitcoin is created to do also such things.

https://www.deepdotweb.com/2016/01/23/bitcoin-playing-an-increased-role-in-crime-europol-says/

Would you believe that the existence of bitcoin has increased the number of criminality in  some countries in the world. This is the issue that was being thrown by the EuroPol and the UK Metropolitan Police. According to them bitcoin has played a huge role on the increasing criminality in their area. They added that a huge number of cybercriminals were using bitcoins in their activities.

This just shows that as bitcoin develops both advantages and disadvantages will tag along.
Exactly why a lot of people don't use bitcoin. They are scared because they think that bitcoin is illegal and would lead them to jail. Bitcoin was created for good purposes and yet again mankind never fails to think the other way around and this time its bitcoin. So nothing can be done about the crime but at least we can make sure that we don't throw our lives in the road of crime and screw everyone who trusts us and lead them to a world of sorrow and guilt.

Bitcoin is an open source where majority of the individuals believers of bitcoin knows this things.
But it doesn't mean we must be scare of it, of course not! Bitcoin can be use for illegal activities if the user are one of the abusers.
But if not, most often bitcoin being use to help others not to harm anyone. And I never heard that bitcoin being use in criminality ever since I started here, I don't know in the other country if that happen.

Yes , they are using it too. Thats the disadvantage of bitcoin now, government cannot traces transactions thats the disadvantage thats why they will not yet easily to search criminals so it is disadvantage.

We do not know about it, we just want to invest in bitcoin and expect a little profit. For the criminals hopefully there is a reward.

If there’s a greed on money there’s criminality that can happen. It is present everywhere because of the greed of the people for money.  They are not contented on the money they have or they want an easy money but don’t want to work hard to earn it. Bitcoin can be earned by working hard but if you have a higher rank it can be much easier than the beginners but criminality still exist on this because of their greed.

greed is one of the many factors why people tend to do some illegal means in or der to accumulate more money than they needed to. This is really bad especially when the result of that illegal transactions would mean to harm other people's health, life, or future.

Many public mistakes about the use of Bitcoin by criminals, but the thought is wrong thinking. This thought is caused by the many people who think that Bitcoin is anonymous, when in fact Bitcoin is very contrary to it - all transactions Bitcoin transparent and everyone in the world can see the ongoing Bitcoin transactions. People may not be able to connect a particular individual identity to a Bitcoin transaction directly (this is why sometimes Bitcoin is also called pseudo anonymous), but if they find it, then they can see all the transactions you have done on the Bitcoin network. This is why Bitcoin is the wrong way if you use it for things that are not right.

It is still anonymous because even though all the transactions are listed and can be seen on the blockchain network then it is not still enough for you to not call it anonymous because bitcoin doesn't require our information like for personal and because of that we are very safe from exposing our profile and that is how we can be anonymous with bitcoin and also that is why the criminals are very confident to use bitcoin.

yesterday it was the first time when here at bitcointalk I send a 10 USD Amazon gift card, having faith and received mo bitcoin for it (as I was promised). The same thing happened when the other payment processors were at the beginning, you were buying something and that something never arrived. Yet today, on ebay there is plenty of junk sold for good money. Bitcoin is fast and because its anonimity the criminality is higher. One can find unhonest people everywhere, but this is not a thing to report to authorities, just next time be more attentive with your money and everything will be good.

Actually by using Bitcoin then some crime can be reduced, cash will continue to be the preferred medium for criminal activity as it is more difficult to trace. All Bitcoin transactions are recorded and publicly viewable. Only the identity of transactions that can not be seen but still can be obtained with little effort.

Recent tracking of Mt. Gox coins through a lot of exchanges shows that Bitcoin has more potential to reduce criminality than increase it. It is enough that investigators make due use of the ledger to investigate.

It's simple sir. The growing of technology means growing on criminality. The more resource we have to make our life better, the more resource we have to hurt each other and do bad things. Everything has a bad side and a good side, including technology and Bitcoin.

Bitcoin will make the use of cash decrease and robbery decrease. But Bitcoin also make drug dealers and gun dealers is easy to access and their transaction it's hard to track. Bitcoin will make hitman and human trafficking more dangerous and give more power.

Bitcoin, internet, computer, they are technology.

it always depends on who uses bitcoin to be a criminal because even Fiat moneys can be use by bitcoin, only who uses it matters
