i think after bitcoin new wallet will be release 1.13? i think)

if Tranz could make us a fresh wallet with some optimization

Rebasing won't help. Most of memory consumption comes from the block index. The chain is over 4 million blocks long and keeps growing fast. Deal with it.

The best solution (IMO) is to swap to a new chain and get rid of all of the legacy data.

@PressTab, Tranz, and other capable coders in the HoboNickels Community.

Others e.g. Mintcoin have been looking at a coding solution for blockchain bloat. PressTab, I know that you have been too. Swopping to a new chain, as you suggest, is for me the best solution to enhance an already great coin. At the moment, on the plus side, the slow syncing helps the network, but I think we all would appreciate a streamlined, faster-syncing HoboNickels.

The question is how to do it? Cryptopia could be a great help if they were of a mind to run an exclusive transfer wallet. HBN could be transferred on a 1:1, old for new basis.

Another possible solution occured to me a long time ago. HoboNickels has a multi-wallet facility. Could a new, transitional HBN wallet, running on a new blockchain, be incorporated into the existing HoboNickels wallet running on the old blockchain? Could this run in parallel to the new HBN wallet on the new blockchain, while the transfer process is completed?

Nevermind. Had not looked at the price in some time, didn't realize it was this low. Not even worth getting rid of. Now just an experiment in how long I can run it without blowing my cpu up.

if you wanna have low cpu usage, you have to manually  make blocks of 5000-6000 hbn
in automatic to much dust and to many blocks  what eat the cpu and for less staking reward

i do a few blocks everyday after stake, otherwise to boring to do to much blocks in 1 time

i notice in explorer there are some people doing 10000 but it s to big you reach the max 250pos  and so you losing hbn's

Anyone having sync issues? My wallet crapped out on me yesterday with Assertion Fail & would not load. So I deleted all but my wallet.dat files & used the bootstrap from 4/16 & now the wallet is syncing very slow, I mean slow & will get stuck on a time value.

All that needs to be done is the block chain bloat... 2GB is just too much.

Actually,
Couple of things to be looked at , if a new chain is done.

1.  Drop PoW or continue it , also will the Checkpoint Server be dropped or continued?
2.  BlockSpeed, the coin will be bloated again in 2 years , if the block speed is left at 30 seconds, 1 or 1½ minutes sync very fast.
3.  If the Blockspeed is changed then the max reward of 250HBN per block needs to be increased also , prefer 2500HBN max reward per block  Wink

* Whoever is in charge of the swap needs to verify with Cryptopia , that the swap will not lose the HBN Market there.*
*HBN community may have to repay to have HBN added after any swap, so that should be worked out and understood first.*

 Cool

A snapshot of the current chain would also need to be taken, like Clams did it.

If Tranz does not come back, we need to look out for a new developper.
To reward a new dev, the easiest way would be for the new dev to add a premine-bounty for himself to the new chain, besides the snapshot of the current chain.
That way we wouldn't need any donations or seek for a voluntary developer.

We just would have to agree on the number of coins that he or she would premine for himself.
I would just suggest 5% of the total coin supply for a new dev. Can anybody in this community post here if they agree with this or not?
If we have a big majority of our community who do agree, we could start to reach out to devs of other coins.

For me, a new dev would be a relatively unknown quantity and HBN wouldn't be the same. I have sent Tranz a private message asking what his intentions with HBN are. So far, he hasn't answered.

We are coming back to the same ground 'others' have brought up. Incentive. I assume that Tranz would have amassed a reasonable amount of HBN, particularly at the beginning. Whether he has already cashed that amount in is another question. Giving a new dev (or Tranz) 5% of the coin supply is something that I would feel very uneasy with. 5% is 1,500,000 HBN. Who is to say that the new dev (or Tranz) wouldn't dump that amount and really do the coin in?

I would prefer the new dev (or Tranz) to have enough faith in the coin to have bought into the coin. That would give him/her (or Tranz) enough incentive to be committed. And by ....., HBN is cheap enough at the moment with only a 30 million coin supply.

The Dev's role is important, but so too is marketing and spreading the word. Some amongst us might be quite skilled at that, and just waiting for the right moment to apply themselves. Do we 'incentivise' them? I would say no to both dev and marketing 'incentivisation', especially considering the stage the coin is at now.

Tranz, it's about time we heard from you (if we haven't already).

At $25.000 market cap, 5% would be only $1250. And there is no buy support to absorb even that, so the new dev couldn't just dump the coins. A new dev would be automatically committed to bet on the market to recover from where we are now.

I personally would like to see HBN forked as a NXT clone like BURST.

That way we can issue assets against HBN and have more uses for the coin other than mining and dumping on cryptopia.

I think Hobonickels was never intended to be one of those coins that are in the forefront of Cryptocurrency-technology. It's a coin that serves more the collector-type of investor who likes to own something that has a cute, friendly brand and a history. With the fair launch, the long PoW-period and the Stake-for-charity option, the coin is ideal for that.
Those who invest in assets would be better off to sell their Hobonickels and buy Nxt/Ardor or Peercoin (they are working on Peerassets).

The original innovation of Proof-of-stake came when Sunny King launched Peercoin. So if it was purely about technology, all owners of Novacoin, Blackcoin, Hobonickels, Bottlecaps, Orbitcoin, Yacoin, Diamonds, Bitbars etc. etc. would sell their coins for Peercoin.

By the way, Peercoin is undervalued right now, I think it will go up in value quite a bit soon.
