Why is DRK so hard to push upward and so quick to fall (or worse, get stuck in long spells of protracted stagnation).

There's a cloud over this coin that has nothing to do with Evan's great work and all the innovation and features, and I don't think it can be dismissed. Maybe this instamining is it - I don't know. But the kind of good news and work put into this coin should've made it perform like BlackCoin in its heyday. Why does it continue to struggle like this (from the perspective of those of us who aren't early adopters).
People are so used to pumping and dumping of crypto coins.  Darkcoin has been increasing in price at a very steady rate, although it climbs steeply when there is something interesting happening, such as an article that gives exposure or progress on the features.  There is no drama, because a lot of people are being serious with this coin.  You don't get tons of people dumping, and pumping hasn't worked.

So, although we are doing super well, we don't have the drama.  We are mature, we are real.  I don't see a struggling coin at all.  I see one that stands out from the crowd so far, that it can only be compared to Bitcoin itself in how it grew.
The only thing that DRK is missing now is a community such as the one behind dogecoin. They are insanely active. Even if we had half as many people as they did (active ones of course), the price and adoption would go up. Maybe we should approach a few websites so that they write an article on darkcoin.

I think DRK is doing fine !
the price is rising steady,…. 10% here, 10% there,
i believe this is exactly what we want ! Steady up !
(and no bump and dump bull ….)
Sure more PR is always good, but no need to rush it, the coin is speaking for itself
and people are catching on, maybe slowly but at least steady … so let it flow for a bit !
The big developments are not yet in action, so no need to jump the gun and promote something
with is not 100 % yet ! Lets take it easy for a bit longer, we are doing so well !!!

i'm still kinda newb to some of this stuff....but what do you guys make of the huge buy walls?

You've got 2 possibilities:

-Someone is willing to buy 100+ BTC at that price (less likely)
-Someone wants to sell DRK so they put in a huge buy wall so that others gain confidence and put in buy orders that they can sell into (more likely)

Either way you're swimming with whales so be careful! Price does seem to be relatively stable right now but you never really know what the big players are going to do.

Yeah, who knows. But in the long run, this seems extremely promising (I like that guy who put "maybe I'll sell some at $300 per DRK").

Pro-tip: I've been making pretty decent returns through automated BTC arbitrage (see link in my signature), so I just withdraw some BTC profits every few days to buy more DRK.

I'm wary of this pro tip. There is a lot of feedback about problems with the BTC Arbs site: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=474787.0

Is there anyone that can tell me what is happening on testnet? It was broke last night. I updated to 10.7.3 and I am stuck on block 4677. Others on IRC report same issues on testnet.

I think testnet has at least 2 forked blockchain.

Code:
        "addr" : "107.170.0.29:55195",
        "services" : "00000003",
        "lastsend" : 1399944649,
        "lastrecv" : 1399944649,
        "bytessent" : 185645,
        "bytesrecv" : 3284862,
        "blocksrequested" : 0,

        "inbound" : true,
        "startingheight" : 4944,
        "banscore" : 0,
        "syncnode" : true

And testnet seed looks like banned a lot of peers.

Wouldnt it be totally hilarious if dogecoin forked to merge-mne X11  Grin

Anyway, stats on p2pool !? How's that going? Bounty still up I think, 1/2 a node plus 100$, not bad at all !
Theoretically, is it possible for a coin to split in two instead of forking to the main trunk?  Consider this scenario:

ASIC users and the devs control DOGE or even LTC so they keep it on scrypt but a strong and loyal GPU only user base creates their own fork to X11 and creates their own "wrong" blockchain and by doing so creates a 2nd Dogecoin or 2nd Litecoin.  They stick with this X11 only Dogecoin and get it on exchanges and continue to run it like their own coin.  They can even modify the name if they want to.

What do you guys think?  Is that plausible or doable?

Blackcoin's new PR firm sure is doing its thing!

Can I suggest that if there was a PR firm involved in that broadcast in any way that I would suggest they need to be fired immediately.

I wouldn't put my money in the hands of anyone who presents themselves publicly looking like that with the intent of informing or giveing anyone confidence in their product.

They may all be fine people, or even technically good at what they do, but that is a horrible representation.

If I walked into a bank and saw those people standing there I wouldn't hand them a single dollar and ever expect to get it back.

Presentation is everything... suits, no sunglasses, well lit, not waving your hands in front of the camera like a little kid... I could go on and on.

Please, please please do not ever think of doing something like that....

Just my .02.

Would that not allow people to spend the doge on both forks because neither is confirming what is happening on the other.    You would need to do proof of burn perhaps, where you prove you destroyed the coins and they issue you a new set on the new blockchain, then it can be sure of a proper start.

 A strange idea I heard is where all alt coins share the same blockchain, no matter that they are different but they all help each others security in some way though with varying rates of worth.    Ive no idea thats possible or not or how but it sounds better then a delibrate fork

Ring signatures are going to be implemented in V2. I will begin development immediately after I opensource V1.

How do we compete against clones? Can they clone me? I work on this full time. In fact, I've only been at it four months. So far I've implemented DarkSend + X11 + DGW + Masternode payments. Plus, I've agreed to work on this project till at least Jan 2016 full time. So who on earth would invest in a clone?
This definitely needs quoting, my one and only concern regarding our DRK investments was the cryptonote coins and their ring signature technology (look it up, you'll see why).

If Darkcoin gets ring signatures ON TOP of everything else, it will be the ultimate coin, with regards to privacy at least. To be honest this announcement has made me plan to get the funds for another 1k asap.

Any posts from me that were posted in Russian were NOT from me. A cykablyat obtained my forum login details when they were leaked, I was inactive from the forum at that time.

Is there a place I can point people to with typical questions like drk vs anon/zerocoin, will darkwallet kill darkcoin, why should I believe in darkcoin etc? I'm getting asked it quite often and don't have the time to search all through this thread.

If the following is added it will be the ultimate & I see this not only passing LTC but giving BTC a run for its money:
  • ring signatures
    I2P for ip obfuscation
    proof of service with masternodes
    encrypted message system to allow order numbers to be sent with payments.

I managed to convince a VPS service provider to start to accept Darkcoins Cheesy

They are running out of Iceland and have servers also in Sweden and Romania.
Also really big on anonymity. This is a quote from theyr front page:

"FlokiNET offers safe, anonymous and stable services. We will protect your project and privacy. Our main goals are freedom of speech and the right to privacy and anonymity. We offer solutions for any kind of secure communication, data transport and anonymous publishing."

They are also running several TOR nodes  Wink

Go cancel your amazon masternode VPS and sign up with FlokiNET and pay with your Darkcoins   Shocked

http://www.flokinet.is/

They also accept BTC, LTC, AUR if you dont want to part with your DRK

There is not yet a Darkcoin logo on theyr frontpage but hopfully you will see it there soon.
If you want to sign up and pay with DRK just send them a email telling them that you want to do so info@flokinet.is and Einar Jóhannsson will take care of you.
If you mention my name in the Email you might get some better deal Wink

That is awesome, thanks! A coin is not a coin if it can't be used... although I think that all of us believe in DRK so much that we don't want to spend it Smiley

I agree that moving some masternodes from amazon and digital ocean to smaller ISPs should be a goal to have a more distributed network.
