Is darkcoin's block reward specifically designed to amplify bubbles and busts?

"Block reward is controlled by: 2222222/(((Difficulty+2600)/9)^2)"

Difficulty follows price.

Two scenarios.

1) Price goes up

Mining becomes more profitable. More people mine DRK. Difficulty goes up.

Block reward gets smaller  (denominator of fraction gets bigger) which the supply to dry up.

Bubble inflates even faster. Ends in a magnificent crash.

2) Price goes down

Mining becomes less profitable. Less people mine DRK. Difficulty goes down.

Block reward gets bigger (denominator of fraction gets smaller) which causes even more coins to come onto the market.

Crash becomes even worse. Coin becomes severely oversold.

What is the rationale behind intentionally making bubbles and crashes bigger in magnitude?

This guy has a point !  Huh

What is the rationale behind intentionally making bubbles and crashes bigger in magnitude?

It does actually exactly the opposite: when the rewards go down/up faster, the miners switch earlier from/to a different coin, thus making the oscillations smaller.

Same(!) time frame:

Has anyone come to idea that massive ransomware attack ( several hundred thousand computers ) asking 3 BTC or so to save data made pressure on btc price ( i.e. 350 000 times 3 btc bought urgently ) ?

As Bitcoin prices in the new US exchange, the rise is now showing up as a breakout on the 1-Week chart. Lets see how far it goes...next all time high should be around $6,000 per bitcoin which would put DRK at $30...(masternode valuation = $30,000).

Hey Tok... Thanks for the links.  Watched every video.  Totally agree with the currancy/money difference.  Cheers.

:/

Economics fool chiming in...

What???

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Currency

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money

So often people post on here with little thought for how their words are being conveyed and one has no idea what they're getting at. If I had a dollar for every time I've read an ambiguous post, well I'd have a lot of dollars.

Are you saying that bigrcanada is an "Economics fool"?

or

Are you saying that the presenter Mike Maloney in the video Tok posted is an "Economics fool"?

or

Are you saying that you are the person "chiming in" and you're labelling yourself an "Economics fool"?

The links you've provided are typically typical in their common outbound messaging of what currency is and what money is. Sentences like this

Quote
"A much more general use of the word currency is anything that is used in any circumstances, as a medium of exchange. In this use, "currency" is a synonym for the concept of money"

do little to get at the heart of what Mike Malone is expressing about the wholesale fraud that has been perpetrated on the citizens of most jurisdictions where the government issued currency is nothing much more than government issued debt without any intrinsic value.

I think the messaging in those videos is of profound importance for all peoples of the world and something everyone should be considering and taking to heart. As normal though, only a small portion of humanity will bother to work out what the true difference between currency and money is, and there'll be much pain and sorrow and "why didn't someone tell us?!" cries of injustice (usual 'human history repeating') when it all unravels.

So for everyone I think it requires a "Note to self": take steps to get ready for the inevitable collapse of fiat currencies and ensure your wealth is stored in something that's real 'money'.

Security Advisory for CoinShuffle and Darkwallet

I've posted the security advisory on r/Bitcoin, so far it's just getting downvoted. Can we get some upvotes? It's getting downvoted just because it's from a competing currency, however, they should know that all of the mixing technologies they have presently are broken.

Okay (glad you deleted that first response you made because I was even more confused as to what "you're getting at". Ha!)

There's about six of them all up. This is the first one and you can easily get to the next five via Youtube provided links once you watch this first one:

BTC price at BTC-e currently $297
BTC price at BitStamp currently $307

Looks like we're back to the regular $10 difference in price between BTC-e and BitStamp that existed for many months prior to the price collapsing (not sure that it means anything though; just interesting).

As Bitcoin prices in the new US exchange, the rise is now showing up as a breakout on the 1-Week chart. Lets see how far it goes...next all time high should be around $6,000 per bitcoin which would put DRK at $30...(masternode valuation = $30,000).

If this turns out to be true I'll be a very happy man.

I haven't been hit with that virus, but I'd donate the ransom amount to a bounty that tracks them down and beats the shit out of them and posts the video on youtube (or ogrish or similar, depending on the outcome).

A question for you re: tracing, guys.

Let's say we can see the following transaction on the blockchain:
Input A 1 BTC, Output Address B 0.6 BTC and C 0.4 BTC.

What can be inferred here is that A either sent 0.6 BTC to B (and got the change to C address) OR 0.4 BTC to C (and got the change to B address).

Is there a way to find out whether A sent money to B OR C?
