Bitcoin was supposed to go to $280 then back to $99 before it's moonshot.

It's not behaving itself.

Possibly the combined effect of......

[1] - Greece being the new Cyprus

[2] - Coinbase opening a U.S. exchange

[3] - Overbought condition

....being too much for bears to keep the lid on the valuation.

As Bitcoin prices in the new US exchange, the rise is now showing up as a breakout on the 1-Week chart. Lets see how far it goes...next all time high should be around $6,000 per bitcoin which would put DRK at $30...(masternode valuation = $30,000).

That's assuming DRK doesn't increase against bitcoin at all.

I truly hope not.

In fact, the DRK decrease is assumed. If BTC 6000$ for DRK to be 30$, the 0.005 price is needed. As paradoxically as it sounds, but this in fact would be decrease in DRK price, as DRK is valued in BTC and not $. Most of us bought DRK with BTC and hence BTC that matters, if BTC price goes up, but DRK/BTC price goes down - for most of us it equalls price going down even though each DRK would be vallued 30$ and not 2$ like now...

Why would you assume a decrease in DRK:BTC during a massive cryptobubble? Alts like LTC and NMC consistently rise against bitcoin during the big 10x+ bubbles.

Is darkcoin's block reward specifically designed to amplify bubbles and busts?

"Block reward is controlled by: 2222222/(((Difficulty+2600)/9)^2)"

Difficulty follows price.

Two scenarios.

1) Price goes up

Mining becomes more profitable. More people mine DRK. Difficulty goes up.

Block reward gets smaller  (denominator of fraction gets bigger) which the supply to dry up.

Bubble inflates even faster. Ends in a magnificent crash.

2) Price goes down

Mining becomes less profitable. Less people mine DRK. Difficulty goes down.

Block reward gets bigger (denominator of fraction gets smaller) which causes even more coins to come onto the market.

Crash becomes even worse. Coin becomes severely oversold.

What is the rationale behind intentionally making bubbles and crashes bigger in magnitude?

This guy has a point !  Huh

This is more like a feature that was used to protect the coin in its infancy. The smallest possible block reward is 5DRK, no matter if the difficulty is 5000 or 80000. And we are already here, no further decrease is possible based on difficulty.
Should the hashrate drop significantly due to whatever reason, the increased reward will incentivize miners, thus stabilizing the currency.

DRK has less coins generated per day compared to BTC, and WAY less than LTC:

DRK: 576*5 = 2880 coins / day, out of which 1080 goes to masternodes
LTC: 576*50 = 28800 coins / day
BTC: 144*25 = 3600 coins / day

Compared to the amount of coins already on the market:
DRK 2880 / 5000000 = 0.0576 % daily inflation
LTC: 28800 / 35900000 = 0.08 % daily inflation
BTC: 3600 / 13763000 = 0.026 % daily inflation

The amount of coins generated is further distributed between miners and masternodes. What I'd like to point out with this is that in case of a buggle/bust, it's not the amount of coins generated daily that matter the most, as it's only a small fraction of the total available. DGW is only in place to protect the blockchain by incentivizing miners, making sure that the hashrate won't drop below a certain point.

Take a look at bitcoin hashrate - did it significantly decrease (orders of magnitude I mean) in case of a bust? Nope. You shouldn't be afraid of it happening here either.

Tok,

What do you suppose has happened to Ripple (XRP)? It's down about 35% in just 4 days with about half of that drop occurring in the past 24 hours.

I bet there's a lot of very unimpressed people at the moment (but, as we know, it's not a crypto in the true sense of what that means).

Maybe it was counting on the incumbent guv in Greece being returned to power? (just kidding....probably as good as any other explanation).

Edit: am forgetting that Ripple is most likely bought and sold by majority in USD so with bitcoin's recent rise perhaps Ripple is sitting roughly at the same level? Either way, it's in the "crypto" realm so will probably be engendering nervousness with holders given its severe drop against BTC.

I dont, its just a response to a proposed speculation. If bitcoin is worth 6000$ and DRK is worth 30$ then this is a price paradox, where DRK is worth more $, but the price itself went down (DRK/BTC). Someone made an assumption that in the next Bitcoin bubble, DRK price (DRK/BTC) wont increase, but in fact decrease... If DRK price ought to stay the same as it is now (0.007), then $ value should be 6000*0.007= 42$.

Security Advisory for CoinShuffle and Darkwallet

I've posted the security advisory on r/Bitcoin, so far it's just getting downvoted. Can we get some upvotes? It's getting downvoted just because it's from a competing currency, however, they should know that all of the mixing technologies they have presently are broken.
