W.T.F. is going on with Bitcoin ?

BTCe looks like a smash and grab. People are panic buying like crazy. 140 BTC sellwals instantly vapourised. It's already well on the way to $270.

Just watched a 240 BTC sellwall there get munched in 2 minutes.

Similar over at BitStamp. Price has risen $15 just in the last 15 minutes.

Security Advisory for CoinShuffle and Darkwallet

I've posted the security advisory on r/Bitcoin, so far it's just getting downvoted. Can we get some upvotes? It's getting downvoted just because it's from a competing currency, however, they should know that all of the mixing technologies they have presently are broken.

There are rumours the Wink bro's will announce a a NY based BTC hedge... Can't remember where I picked this up, it was couple day ago, but its probably bogus. Something this big wouldnt leak.

EDIT: hmm, I guess this has a lot to do with it. But I'm not kidding, I did read about the Wink announcing something on Monday too

Anyone had stuck bitcoin transaction? I sent 5.5 btc about 6 hours ago, and still unconfirmed. I used blockchain.info wallet. I realized I included 0 fee. Anyone know what happens? I wanna make sure eventually it confirms? I sent it to cryptsy to get some DRK, but it is taking too long. Hope I catch it before next spike.

I think Coins101 is quite close here, (and he certainly understands such things better than I do), but don't forget the prime threat to BTC and hence the Coinbase business model--Government. Wall Street needs regulation to guarantee their interests and protect their favored status. Therefore they need to prove to government that they can protect the government's interests. I think we can assume that either a significant amount of the funds will go to proving they can do that, or that the investment itself is proof that they already have!
Yes, it would seem that Coinbase has indeed shown their worth to the powers that be. This is very likely also putting upward pressure on the BTC price, along with the antics over in Greece.

Dudes, r/bitcoin is a shit hole of heads in the sand. Though I will not taught the convo in there as an example of open-minded curiosity, i have absolutely never, never, never, seen any sort of accommodation as we received today. The likelihood of showing up on r/bitcoin and being received with open minds is null. But also, no one, as far as I know, has presented as solution in the form of an ALT with such *mild acceptance and be taken seriously. We should not gauge our progress on the shit-hole of blindness that is r/bitcoin, but no one, definitely, no one, has accrued that level of credibility posting with any sort of association to an altcoin that has been taken seriously, and drk owned that convo. I'm not advocating persecuting btc holders, but there are a lot of them that saw how serious drk is and went hmmmmmm, I guarantee that. Evan is getting used to that spotlight, and boy does he come off nice.

Try this, open the bitcoin client with --zapwallettxes. You'll notice your money is suddenly back, then change the fees so you pay something and try sending the money again. This will double spend your money, but the second transaction will have the fees to make it into a block. There's a very limited about of space per block that's allocated on the bitcoin network to free transactions, otherwise it'll take forever.

That transaction took place on blockchain.info online wallet- Can I import the wallet to bitcoin client on my PC and do that? Or it will not work since the transaction originally happened on blockchain.info?

With Cryptsy you just have to accept that you might have to wait five million hours to deposit BTC...it happens...

I hear you Tante... all the speeches I've heard by leader Alexis Tsipras are in themselves quite radical, but in a good way. He is openly anti-establishment, and have vowed to hunt down corrupt/capitalist-driven offshores and operations for example. Like blatant misuse of community funds, and prime cause of not being able to pay the loans. No bank bailouts and full sanction to dirty coorporate leaders. And that in no way democracy is at risk. Many many principles voiced out that we crypto-geeks hold so dear.

But politicians are politicians and we all know how they're like. This "party" came about quite in the opposite manner of any traditional party, nd this will be a grand experiment too... So who knows?

The atomic bomb was a nasty dirty old thing, but ended giving us "good" nuclear power... if you get my meaning.

idk... All I see is faux-democracy everywhere, bullsh!t-capitalism, and ever more centralized power and loss of liberties. The labels certainly do not hold up in this day and age.

Give me something new that proposes positive change, and I'll give it a shot. Greece has been absolutely butchered by the austerity measures, down to its knees. The Euro experiment is clearly failing its premisses.

Yah, and I really don't understand it all, so...

Is darkcoin's block reward specifically designed to amplify bubbles and busts?

"Block reward is controlled by: 2222222/(((Difficulty+2600)/9)^2)"

Difficulty follows price.

Two scenarios.

1) Price goes up

Mining becomes more profitable. More people mine DRK. Difficulty goes up.

Block reward gets smaller  (denominator of fraction gets bigger) which the supply to dry up.

Bubble inflates even faster. Ends in a magnificent crash.

2) Price goes down

Mining becomes less profitable. Less people mine DRK. Difficulty goes down.

Block reward gets bigger (denominator of fraction gets smaller) which causes even more coins to come onto the market.

Crash becomes even worse. Coin becomes severely oversold.

What is the rationale behind intentionally making bubbles and crashes bigger in magnitude?

Year 2021
Bitcoin Supply: ~90% mined
Supply Inflation: <1.8%
