Has this already been discussed here? http://www.wired.com/2016/01/zcash-an-untraceable-bitcoin-alternative-launches-in-alpha/"Plenty of cryptocurrencies that have boasted features bitcoin lacks have launched and languished over the years, without seeing even a fraction of bitcoin’s adoption. But Wilcox argues that Zcash’s incognito properties, when the currency finally does launch for public consumption and real financial applications, will be crucial for those who need a more privacy-preserving form of digital money. That includes anyone from a medical startup trying to comply with healthcare privacy laws to a businesswoman in Afghanistan dodging corrupt cops and tyrannical male family members. “Privacy makes whole societies safer, stronger and more prosperous,” says Wilcox. “Ubiquitous privacy helps prevent corruption and abuse and oppression.” Another question: Are any DASHers going to Anarchapulco?

I would like to come, but I am in Europe so cant make it this time. I tried to send many times to Jeff info about DASH, but no response. It would be great if you could catch him somehow and point him to make an episode with Evan... Jeff would be a perfect promoter of DASH, because of our instantx, private transactions and decentralized government model. I am sure he would be very supportive to DASH project if anybody could explain him in person. Long live DASH!

Request for clarification: Is DarkSend (still) based on CoinJoin or not? Why are the posters on dashtalk so angry about the issue? It seems like nobody wants to address the disagreement on that DashTalk thread about whether or not DarkSend still uses CoinJoin. I think I was right about it being a taboo subject because gmaxwell (inventor of CoinJoin) said "the only purpose DarkCoin serves is to depress me about the state of humanity."So I did my own damn research, and found the Official Dash Wiki confirms CoinJoin is the "core concept" of DarkSend. https://dashpay.atlassian.net/wiki/display/DOC/DarksendDarksend is...an improved and extended version of the CoinJoin. In addition to the core concept of CoinJoin, we employ a series of improvements If the wiki is outdated, please LMK (and maybe update it).

iCEQUACK, you got me at "research". It would be like seeing a pig fly, so I had to check it out. What gmaxwel said, in context, was, on June 6 2014 "More amusingly, what DarkCoin does is highly centralized because the software is closed— you can't get more centralized than closed source. " Then he explains why, and then "From what I can tell the only purpose DarkCoin serves is to depress me about the state of humanity" And he was 100% correct, except, DarkSend was closed source only until development was finished, and then it was open-sourced, in September 2014. So, either you have no clue what research means, or, the more logical, you're trolling and FUD'ing. So scoot off and go find yet another moronic argument.

actually it's only our funny pet troll there lol So i guess the foundation owns the trademark? Does that mean we are fucked if blockstream takes over the foundation?
The Darkcoin Foundation is a problem for the future of Dash, just like the instamine. Who else interested in a clean and fair relaunch of this project?
I propose to call it Dash Classic. It's the best way to route around the Foundation and instamine, which are holding back Dash by keeping it relegated to scamcoin status. Please! Go ahead and do "the world" this favour! Fork DASH and create your own "perfect alt-dash"... it's your right Fork off and leave us alone will you OK, I'll put you down for 'thanks but no thanks.' Anyone else want to relaunch, without an instamine and Foundation, to fix Dash's image and mal-distribution problems? We could do a Decred-style airdrop, or a Clams-style redemption process. Or both!

So, either you have no clue what research means, or, the more logical, you're trolling and FUD'ing. So scoot off and go find yet another moronic argument. Your interpretation is illogical, because it's NOT as if DRK was gmaxwell's very first encounter with closed source! Maybe he was upset that Evan stole/broke his code for a closed project? FOSS devs are often picky about that licensing stuff, dont'cha know? What you transparently dishonestly misrepresented as "context" excluded most of the key points about what else gmaxwell had to say about DarkCoin. He also remarked on how horribly the unteachable DarkSend devs bungled the CoinJoin (re)implementation, scoffed at the idiocy of masternodes, and then unfavorably compared darkcoin to Monero and most every other anon technology (is that what upset you guys so much that you don't like to talk about it?). Post 5 in the CoinJoin thread writes in depth about implementing it in a decentralized way, none of which appears to have been implemented by the darkcoin developers as far as I can tell— from what I've heard it seems that they're not even able to understand it. (This is a disappointment to me, since I was trying to describe these ideas clearly so others could understand them.)
What the actual behavior is, is anyone's guess— it's impossible to review due to it being closed— though "masternodes" does not sound like something decenteralized, it sounds like something that creates a small chokepoint which could be used to deanonymize its users, like a server based CoinJoin but worse since you have to hold a huge pile of coins to run a server.
As I've said before CoinJoin is interesting because it's inherently part of Bitcoin already— it just needed better tools (and now there are some, e.g. darkwallet) to make it available to people. It's a privacy improvement over not having it, but it isn't perfect, but it also didn't require any changes to Bitcoin (much less a whole altcoin) to deploy it. In an incompatible system much better is possible as is proposed by ZeroCash and much better is actually _realized_ by Bytecoin (and its forks... Monero, Fantomcoin, etc.), the later are actually working (if immature, due reinventing many wheels) implementations of much stronger privacy, decentralized in their implementation, all released under a good open source license. But that's ancient history. The real question is, does Evolution still use CoinJoin or what?

Darksend implementation back in june '14, was a bucket of 3x3 of 10 DRKs, mixing while sending, only 10 DRK denomination.
V2 a few months later = multiple denominations, multiple laundering cycles, 2 mixing parties, sending and (pre)mixing at different stages for instant sending when needed. This was later upgraded to 3 mixing parties to reduce sybil vector, per Kristov Atlas review.

The bells and whistles don't change the fundamental approach; according to the Dash Wiki, CoinJoin is still the "central core" of DarkSend. Does Evolution evolve past Fancy CoinJoin? It should. As gmaxwell explained, it makes very little sense to use the Bitcoin tailored CoinJoin approach when Dash isn't compatible with Bitcoin anyway, and there are much better options such as zerocash and cryptonote available to a non-compatible altcoin like Dash.

Speaking of Kristov, I would really like to ear his take on InstantX and the governance implementation. Is this a possibility? Someone close to him could ask... and this could be funded directly from the blockchain this time
