Government honeypot

I saw the "honeypot" aspect of it, but from a different perspective.

When an unbacked cryptocurency is publicly traded but cannot be publicly audited, it clears the way for all sorts of scams which can be carried out simply by infecting the eco system with everything from from hacked clients to bogus alarmism in the media.

It's a piece of cake to collapse confidence since there's no public consensus as to the blockchain state - each individual is "on their own" and even then can only inspect one address at a time with a private (or 'view') key.

There doesn't even need to be a "back door" because all a strategic attacker has to do is media-engineer a confidence collapse having previously "infected" the network with some dodgy software (e.g. clients that send transactions to a different address than the one you specified). The blockchain's obfuscation properties provide the perfect cover for the attack to remain....well......."obfuscated"  Cheesy...for enough time to create fertile ground for the confidence "rot" to develop.

In other words it's the cryptocurrency version of the "can't audit the fed" scenario.

Then when defenders started citing "math" as the basis for its security I knew that claim was a scam since blockchains are not secured by math, they are secured by code which is not the same as "math". It is a particular coder's idea of math which can be anything they see fit to type out on a whim.

Of course all blockchains are subject to this problem, but the whole point of decoupling owners from addresses in bitcoin's original implementation was to engender a powerful public consensus as to the blockchain state to make it resistant to just such confidence scams.

I imagine the original designers of the Cryptonote technology must have known this which calls into question their motivation. (I'm not talking about current devs who I beleive are acting in good faith and truly believe they're simply creating a 'privacy coin' in oblivion to the huge trap they're walking their followers into).

(P.S. My own long-held theory is that the original designers of Cryptonote tech didn't intend it to be used for unbacked money at all. It was designed as a transport vehicle for backed money - or banks, as described here - which is a whole different scenario. In that case no public consensus is needed because you have a trusted party prepared to convert your tokens to fiat at any time).

Transmission 56 - https://youtu.be/3xmgveyF8nk - I get interviewed by @theo Goodman of the Crypto Network about dash - #bitcoin #dashpay #darkcoin - Note there is a mistake on the # of coins/masternodes, but we fix that number as the interview continues. Enjoy.

12.1 Development Update

Hello Everyone!

Internally among the core-team (our core DAO which maintains the software, promotes Dash and executes its day-to-day activities), there’s been a building sense of excitement about the near future, d10e and beyond. Things are going great and we’re building momentum internally, toward our goal of achieving an Evolution compatible financial network to spread Dash usage around the world. However, it seems this excitement is limited to our team and information has not extensively propagated to the community about the ongoing work. While some elements - such as developing business partnerships - are difficult to share, we want to engage the community more effectively on the elements of progress that we can share.

Cool, we have Drklvr posting in here again, with luck he will excessively troll the Dash forum again like with his previous Adam_White account
and get banned again .. like with his Adam_White account.

Amanda B Johnson: "I'm a car salesman". Dash pumper Interviewed on Bitcoin Uncensored
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/4r2gn9/amanda_b_johnson_im_a_car_salesman_dash_pumper/

There are one or two points that they brought up that need to be responded to by evan or someone from the core team.
I don't think any are real issues per se and the sybil attack case they brought up could be mitigated by instantX/instasend.

More stupid shit

LOL i'm not Adam_White.. and Adam_White isn't even banned.. keep trying to change the topic though. I wonder why Evan Duffield is too much of a coward to post here without his "taylor5" sock puppet. It's almost as though he's some kind of an instamine scammer actively trying to distance himself from this bullshit coin

Listening right now.  Respect is due for being willing to go on the show and be grilled under intense questioning about semi-unfamiliar topics.  Too bad Duffield is a coward and prefers to hide under his marketing booth babe's skirt.

Mandy has good instincts (Go Ron Paul!) but doesn't understand how proof of work enforces Nakamoto Consensus, the basis of Bitcoin-like e-cash's security (theft/duplication resistance).

The massive sense of entitlement and technical cluelessness required to ask Gavin to shift almost half of BTC's 21e6 coin block reward from miners to full nodes is astonishing.  The delicate balance of incentives is how Satoshi breathed life into the network, yet Mandy goes full Space Ghost with her "I just heard about Bitcoin and I'm here to fix it!"

Mandy also doesn't understand or appreciate Lightning, because she thinks it "sounds like banks" and isn't "on-chain" (and probably because it makes Dash obviously obsolete).

When pressed on specifics about Dash's network and security, the hand-waving ("come at Dash, bro, I invite it") and deflection ("I'd love for you to come to the Dash forums") begins.

What we have here is basically yet another disgruntled/poutraged "IMPLEMENT [MY IDEA] RIGHT MEOW" buttcoiner.  I've seen DashHoles use the Gavinista insurgency as a way to pump Dash before; it wasn't pretty.

Funny how Mandy gives Duffield the benefit of the doubt (IE assumes the best) w/r/t the Instamine/CoinJoin/InstantX, yet assumes the worst of Core and Blockstream's motivations ("zomg Bilderblockers' nefarious stream-blocking").  Enthusiasm for a shitcoin like Dash, skepticism of Bitcoin.  Go figure.   Undecided

Mandy didn't grow up nerd and that's OK.  She's teachable (IE, may be deprogrammed from the cargo cult brainwashing), and we who did should help provide the Deep Background needed to bring her up to speed.

Here's the canonical origin story of the Sybil Attack, which is the most glaringly dangerous deficiency in her inadequate conceptual toolkit.  (Hat tip: Dan Kaminsky)

lol, i think taylor5 is babygiraffe but i could be wrong. it's definitely not evan lol as he post here from time to time and uses his real name.
funny how its been quite in here for weeks and then all of a sudden the trolls all show up together as if they were being paid or coordinated.  Roll Eyes
the threads always pretty slow though without the trolls so i welcome them and their free bumps. i just wish the level of trolling was better from them.

most people seem to have moved away from btctalk and to the DASHtalk/dash.org forum.
bitshares did the same thing and it did not work out too well for them. they had plenty of other issues too but their lack of presence here was a big problem imo.

sybil

yeah i would love to hear evan go on that show and destroy those dudes. problem is they are rude unprofessional crypto shock jock jackasses. it would probably be best to avoid their show but invite them here to ask and have answered any questions they have. but they are gonna have to do some research first so as not to look like fools not knowing about all the different x-11 ASIC's companies and basic stuff like that.

as for the lightning network, amanda probably prefers decentralized chainanchor proof/resistant protocol level solutions (soon to be free, evo) for anonymity and instant transactions over LN's inefficient centralized off-chain 3rd party fee ridden vaporware.

lastly, amanda was right about there being many different kinds of sybil attacks not just one as those crypto shock jocks purposely (or ignorantly) misunderstood what she was saying.
"Three Bitcoin Core developers, Wladimir van der Laan, Peter Todd and Gregory Maxwell, say Chainalysis' actions amount to a so-called Sybil attack on the bitcoin network, something CEO Grønager denies.
The attack, named after dissociative identity disorder sufferer Shirley Ardell Mason, occurs when an individual creates multiple fake identities to gain influence in a peer-to-peer network."

Correct... I am Ryan Taylor (a.k.a. babygiraffe on Dashwhale and Dash Forum), heading up the finance function, which is why all the core team budget proposals and official announcements that are posted on BCT are posted here by Taylor05. I would like to align my ID's, but BCT doesn't allow me to change my username here (to my knowledge).
