Garbage removed

I love how Darkcoin attracts all the worst retards. You think you're the first guy to bring any of this up? Everything has been discussed at length, opinions have been formed, those who wanted to stay away did and those who thought Darkcoin was still an amazing coin with an amazing dev stayed with it and now they're holding on to the rocket, you won't be the one to stop it. It's too late for you and most of your other anonymous coins. Darkcoin is constantly improving and has first mover advantage.

Monero has ring signatures? Darkcoin will add them on top of masternodes with darksend in a way you can't even imagine. Monero doesn't even have a GUI wallet or an exchange. When Darkcoin achieves perfect anonimity without the bloat of zerocoin/zerocash, there won't be any competition. Hirocoin was the first to take X11? Didn't too much for it after a while because devs like Evan keep adding features which keep people excited about coins like Darkcoin while the others are left in the dust always being a step behind.

Nothing you can post here matters, people will constantly tell you to go fuck yourself as you should be doing because in the altcoin world, Darkcoin is the 0.1% and there's simply nothing you can do. Have fun trying though and keep looking at darkcoin from afar while it rises through the ranks.

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

just to be sure..you can switch off your local machine after launching your remote node with it?

Some say that it's possible, but I don't think so. The local wallet has to say to the network "I'm on". That's why I think that it's better to have 2 servers : one (private) running darkcoind with the 1000DRK and the other (public) with an empty wallet.

just a question. I shutdown my masternodes today, however the ip addresses are still showing up on the list command. Is this normal? Do I have to issue masternode stop from the wallet that contains 1000 drk? The ip is no longer active and yet is still displayed.

Longer than 30 minutes ?
yes, it was earlier today....~4ish?. I can give a list of the ips that were attached to the vms that were hosting the masternodes if that helps. Also, it was a remote set-up....the way TanteStefana describes in the darkcoin thread.

On the local machine :
Code:
masternode stop

It's still running on your local machine and saying to the network that YOUR_SERVER_IP (-masternodeaddr=YOUR_SERVER_IP) is the IP of the masternode.
Thanks. Will start that now. Man this is gonna suck a bit.

I can see why they say its possible, when i switch off my local machine the ip of the remote remains on the list. It has done for a long time, I have check with multiple wallets and they all list it. Hmmmmm.

The list is updated every 30 minutes so it's not impossible. But if you say that the IP is there beyond that, they are right.

Pretty sure. I'll describe how I did. On my local machine I have vmware installed. I sent 1000 multiples of dark to the vmware wallet. Encrypted. Shutdown and restart with masternode point to ip. Shutdown, save wallet.dat in cold storage. Repeat numerous times. When done, I shutdown vmware and ips are registered. They are still registered even though the ips themselves are shutdown. Hope this helps.

And you did the same thing with the masternode still on the list ?

If so :
Code:
masternode start
to tell to the network that YOUR_SERVER_IP is a valid masternode (so no need to keep the local wallet running)

And you have to run it again
Code:
masternode stop
to tell to the network to stop using YOUR_SERVER_IP.

I did ,

Code:
darkcoind masternode start -masternodeaddr=YOURSERVERIP:9999

Then i just switched off the pc after i saw it on the remote servers list.

It never added my local machines ip.

I haven't issued the stop yet. Going to be painful. Doing so now.

where is everyone keeping their backup .dat files? is google drive a safe place to keep it? I have it encrypted of course already.

inserted in an encrypted keepass database that's backed up to OneDrive (which is in turn sync'd to GDrive)

I can confirm that you can run the node with your local wallet cold. The way to check is look at the debug.log of the remote server, each masternode is assigned an identifying number  from 0 to n. Search your ip and find your number. After that each time a masternode is selected the debug.log shows winner n. Search for your number and see if your node is being selected, mine are although my wallets are cold. Hope this helps.

Monero has had an exchange for just over two days now.  Not here to agree or disagree with your other points.

I understand you need to have 1000 DRK in address 0 to run a masternode, but what if you wanted to run multiple masternodes from one remote machine?
