As I mentioned on in a earlier post once the core NEM is complete it maybe a good idea to look at using existing feature phones and SMS gateways. The use of M-Pesa in Kenya is an example of what can be done will relatively simple technology that already exists
KC
Good technology appears simple to the end user... In reality what appears simple may not be... This can be done, one approach is to design an integration to mobile money platforms and offer NEM as an add-on rather than an alternative... This way you work with the Telco's not compete... My humble opinion is you need something like a blockchain.info online wallet which can be accessed via SMS/USSD securely, a mobile money platform can hold the wallet-keys or a separate platform, I would think a telco agreeing to partner like this would run a NEM node along side its mobile money platform and take a stake. There is also a lot of fraud around these systems (not technology) but spoof messaging which the Telco manages, people in these markets have very little money and if they don't trust you, they won't use you. I know the concept of working with a telco (I am from one) will not sit well with some people but you won't get good enough security using these simpler protocols unless you can properly integrate with the network. This is practically a good idea, but it seems hard to do. Why would a company like that want to work with us?

While it's a good news that things are progressing, I'm a little disappointed as I thought it will be launched in april and not just alpha-released Everything has to be tested and verified. When dealing with financial instruments there is no room for error.

I wonder how the coding is going.
As of tonight, we have 4062 lines of production code, 3640 lines of test code, and 301 test cases. Overall, I think things are progressing well. We should be on track for an alpha (with a slightly reduced feature set) sometime next month. good news to know! good job!

Will NEM be capable of hitting 10 cents?
How long is a piece of string? In the case of NEM, as long as people cut it. If people don't put the effort in (this includes putting forth their own funds for community driven efforts - advertising, etc) that NEM string will be short. If you're a stakeholder in NEM, it is in your long term interests to use a portion of your funds to help give NEM the boost it needs to publicity. This is something thats lacking in the NXT camp right now, from what i've read. NXT is dominated by whales/horders who care nothing for the currency, and only stash their vast sums of coins with no care for the longevity or future development of the currency.

Announcement
We are forming NEM logo+branding resource committee of five people (or seven if there are a lot of qualified people wanting to join). Our job will be narrowing down the NEM logo, branding resources to a reasonable selection so that a final vote can be made by the community. We will also be actively seeking for best designers and ask them to submit their works for NEM logo+ branding resource selection.
Two initial members of the committee are UtopianFuture and patmast3r and we are asking you to join in the committee if you feel you have eyes for a good logo and NEM branding resources and want to contribute. Send a pm to me or patmast3r if you are interested in joining. Being in the committee does not exclude your works to be considered for NEM logo.
We will announce all members of the committee later on and we will work by consensus to bring a final selection of NEM logo to the community for a vote before our official launch.
Merely pointing this out again. We already have 5 people which means 2 spots are left. People with taste are pefered xD

People with taste are pefered xD Hi pat, I don't know about having taste but I would be happy to narrow down the selection if there is still a spot. Decided to stay away for a few days with all the grim atmosphere of public audit and whatnot. Are we done with the audit, how many sockpockets were detected.

The audit is done but now we're auditing the audit We're checking what people have posted and compiling a refundlist. Based on that list people will then be able to make their case and get refunded or not. I think it'll take some more time...

Indeed he has. Utopianfuture, Jaguar0625 and everyone else involved in developing/promoting/NEM ecosystem take a look at that post. It gives a lot to think about. Erkki12, I would love to read the post but the forum is just not loading? is it down?

You'll be able to forage not mine. And it's NEM not NEW Ha, thanks to correct me, Pat. So, it means I can use my laptop to forge NEM rather than powerful computers since the forge speed is not related to hardware but coin numbers?

So, it means I can use my laptop to forge NEM rather than powerful computers since the forge speed is not related to hardware but coin numbers? Yes you'll be able to forage with your laptop but it's not entirely based on the amount of coins. The details are still being worked out but there will be a paper explaining the algorithm that is POI.
