Atletico Madrid's performance was annoying. They did not attack and made no attempt to attack. They wanted to draw 0-0 in the match while playing defensively. But still, they failed. Lol, this is a result I've said before and in fact, it's a fact that Atletico played more defensively because before I said Atletico would still attack on the counter-attack. But the reality is that Atletico only play defensively and also, Atletico and Madrid cannot be generalized about defensive play in the 1st leg and finally won and qualified in the 2nd leg. I have no doubt Liverpool qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League after they got the draw against Benfica, it was an easy team for Liverpool to beat today. The first half, Liverpool ended it with a 2 away goal advantage.

In another match, Atletico Madrid's defense was very good and very tight so there weren't many chances for Manchester City to create in the first half. I didn't see any Manchester City players shooting on target throughout the first half and this was predictable considering Atletico Madrid are very focused on defence. After the break, Manchester City had to make some changes to score goals because so far the game was a bit boring to watch. Simeone's total defensive strategy was not very interesting as they only got the ball from the mistakes of Manchester City players and launched a counter-attack. It's a difficult game because Atletico Madrid are very afraid to play open.

Yes, this is a fairly easy victory and there is no doubt there. Liverpool really played without a burden and on the other hand Benfica couldn't do much in this match because they defended it was useless but if they played more openly they would also be the losers themselves.
For City and Atletico it's pretty bad to watch, I only caught a glimpse of their game but Simione's strategy is really boring but on the other hand it's a good move for them even though they lost but the aggregate still showed 1 goal there so they still have hope.

I wish we don't have to see that type of gameplay in the biggest football competition. Simeone's system is absolutely disgusting. People mock him for playing ten defensive player, his name is written in bus driver memes. Atletico finished the game without even shooting the ball. That's funny especially when you have Griezmann, Correa and Felix in your team.
I'm glad Pep beat Simeone after perfect substitutions. Foden changed the game with that assist. What did Simeone think when he says Pep is lucky to manage the best clubs? He's a top class manager and these type of managers coach top class clubs.

A dominant Liverpool win as expected - Benfica is just too weak to pose a serious threat to the Reds when we're in form. We could have scored a few more goals - especially Jota and Salah had really clear chances - but this result is what we wanted and the game at Anfield should be easy. Benfica won at Ajax though and had some dangerous moments yesterday as well, so we'll still need to be cautious.

City was really patient against Atletico and controlled the game completely. Atletico was left without a shot on goal - which is the first time it happened to them in 11 years of coaching under Diego Simeone. Just to put it into perspective - first time in over 570 games.

I liked the Atletico Madrid game. Of course Manchester City looked much better. But the whole game was built on Kevin de Bruyne. Atletico played very well with Antoine Griezmann, and I don't understand why Simeone decided to replace him and two other players right at the end of the second half. I think Griezmann could well have scored! Let's see what happens in the return match. Judging by the game, Atletico could try to pull out a win!

The duo of Antoine Griezmann and Joao Felix were not even allowed a sniff of the goal. Chances were hard to come by and whenever they came, they did not materialize.  Atletico Madrid were happy to sit back and defend. Their only approach was to absorb the pressure and attack on the counters which didn’t happen, and so they were very stubborn at the back and Manchester City needed something special to get past them and Kevin Debruyne made the difference.

1 goal for City I think is very good for the start before the 2nd round.

A 1-0 defeat keeps Atletico Madrid more than alive in the tie, which is nearly what Diego Simeone would have wanted beforehand, fewer goals. Manchester city should expect Atletico Madrid who did not register a single shot on goal to show more adventure during next Wednesday’s second leg in Atletico Madrid. Now Manchester City have an advantage to take to Madrid and will hope that Atletico Madrid will eventually come out to play and leave some room to attack.
