Liverpool's main goal was the Champions League. Because they have not been able to perform well since the beginning of the Premier League. And Liverpool is a very experienced team. Leipzig is not as experienced as them. Everyone assumed they could defeat Leipzig. But I don't think Liverpool will be able to reach the semi-finals. My guess is that they will be eliminated later in the quarter finals.

At the start of the season, Champions league wasn't our main goal. Our main goal was to win the Premier league title for the second year in a row after waiting 30 years to get the first one. But things got bad when several of our crucial players started getting injured resulting in multiple cup exits and losing our premier league position to title rivals. So right now, Champions league is the only competition that we still have a shot at winning.  But it's a long short due to our current form.

I look forward to seeing the Real Madrid-Atalanta match next week. Benzema has come back from his injury and scored even a goal against Atletico.    He is very important for the team now and he will be able to play against Atalanta this time. I expect them to be more effective when it comes to scoring. Atalanta have nothing to lose, on the other hand. And they will play with all they have to eliminate Real away. I'll probably place a bet on 'both teams to score' and enjoy the game.  

Atalanta is a very good team in term of scoring and i dont want to think that real madridis already qualified...2 goals is very easy for them againts any club in the world and i believe if they can score a goal in the first minutes real madrid mission will be very hard

I'm not also thinking of betting on this match. Because it is really hard to make a correct prediction. Like @Spack17 said, I also feel like both teams will score at least a goal in this match. But when it comes to which side will advance, everything is possible. Real can be better at finishing this time but we also know how much deadly Atalanta can be on scoring also.

It seems that Sergio Ramos has also returned to training after he has recovered from a knee injury, so most likely Ramos will be played against Atalanta next Wednesday. Obviously, this is a good thing for Real Madrid, moreover, the second leg will be Real Madrid's home game at the Santiago Bernabeu. Yeah, I know and realize that. I was myself personally in favor of just doing a complete rebuild, even if it means not competing on any stage but it seems we still are in a fight for the league and the cup, which personally makes me feel like it gives us a false sense of security in that we aren't as bad as we are (but we are!).

As you said, still such a privilege to witness them every game. I'm so thankful for every match we can see especially when we see such beautiful goals like in the last game:)

It was really interesting to see that Liverpool still were able to eliminate Leipzig despite their very poor performance in the Premier League and Leipzig's very good form in their league also. This really proves how much important being an experienced team is in a big tournament.

Now they are in the quarter final in the CL and we don't know which team will be their opponent. If they have a draw with Porto, things could be easier for them rather than playing against other harder opponents. Even Porto could make big difficulties for them as Porto achieved an awesome thing by eliminating Juve.

but the closer we get to the end of the competition the harder it becomes to figure out who wins (and in theory the games are more fun)

Without star players, Atalanta has always been a tough opponent for all teams. This may be a new history for Atalanta if they return to qualify for the next round. The condition of Ramos, which may not be fully fit, is certainly a weakness for Real Madrid.  Even so, Madrid is a madrid who still has many quality players, Atalanta will definitely find it difficult to beat them.

This is what will be more difficult between Chelsea and Atletico both of them can reverse direction because we know before Atletico last season were able to beat Liverpool by surprise.
On the other hand the two are good at each other between leagues and this is the second leg of determining who will qualify for the next round.

Winning champions league is always a goal for almost every team, who would say "I rather not win it this year" ? Of course their goal will be that, but the reality is that we may not end up with a win that easily, Liverpool is playing horrible in premier league this year and there is a very very valid possibility that they may fail to go to champions league next year, it looks more and more likely hell they may end up not going to europa next year, that would be a huge shock to everyone in the world but looks like it is quite possible by the looks of the standings.

However that doesn't mean that they will just "play harder" and win champions league, sure they are as good as any other team, but as a good team they failed in premier league, so who says they will not in the champions league as well? Teams like City, Bayern, PSG and so forth all could beat them on next round.

I did not know Lazio started the season with the clear goal of winning Champions League! I think you are a bit mistaken here.
Lazio secured a pass to the Champions League group stage 13 years after the last time, led by their bomber Ciro Immobile. Lazio's aim was to confirm their top tier positioning in Serie A in a season in which resources had to be managed on several fronts.
Therefore, it was great they reached this stage but they will go out with Bayern, end of story.

Imo, I don't see how that's a problem, they both played against good quality teams, if anything, what they have is a very good advantage going into the second leg, in the UCL, it's very important to win the first leg tie, that's not to say the opposition cannot do a comeback, but that's only if the leading team allows the advantage to slip away.

Madrid will surely go through to the QF, the problem is with Chelsea, Athletico are a pretty strong team and anything could happen in the second leg, but the thing is that for now, the advantage rests with Chelsea.
