Actually, Sri Lanka played well while they were bowling. It was a good performance from them to get the New Zealand batting team all out before the 50 overs. But after that when they came into chasing, they had an absolutely horrible time. Now I'm just going to say the best score by a Sri Lankan player in this match, it is 18. And there are four extra runs in the 76 that Sri Lanka was able to score. Now Sri Lanka will have to win the next one.

In what way do you think Srilanka played well against NZ? Just look at the scorecard of Srilanka. The captain himself scores a duck and Mendis the wicket-keeper and the batter after the openers. If we check the balling stats then every baller had an economy of 4 and more. In ODI a target of 250+ is always not easy to chase. I am not sure what Srilanka would do in the next ODI. I hope they do not repeat the same performance.

Sri Lanka's performance is not acceptable in any way. They have not done well in any of the matches on this tour of New Zealand. But they had a good score in the first test match but they had to lose. After the first test match I haven't seen any good performance from them. I thought they would do well in the ODI matches but they lost big in the first match. I have doubt about the next matches whether they will be able to return to their form or not.

It was more like decent. But if we talk about the bowling of Sri Lanka, it was absolutely horrible.

What surprised me is that many players on that list have not played any cricket but still get retained. If you want to pay players then pay on the basis of their performance and not on the basis of their celebrity status.

For example - Japsrit Bhumrah has been out of any form of cricket for quite some time but he still gets retained on grade A+. The same is for Rishabh Pant he is in grade A and most probably he won't be playing any form of cricket for the next year or two minimum. Whereas KL Rahul got downgraded for his pathetic performance to grade B. Doesn't it look like favoritism to you guys?

I am not sure how the grading of players is done by BCCI but I do can see certain players on the list that have been chosen just because of their past records and contribution to Indian cricket. This might be another reason why many players tend to not retire. One thing I understood is that if someone gets into that list then we can assume they would be there for quite some time regardless of their performance.

They need less than 4 runs per over now. With 5 wickets in hand that is very much achievable, I think.

Maybe management thinks that Bumrah and Pant are MVP players for India and they are not wrong in their assessment if we look at their performances. So backing them atm makes sense despite they are out of the action.

KL Rahul being downgraded is actually quite good, if you are not performing then it's bound to happen (Dropped from T-20, Tests and lost the VC).

There was no way and they should have lost after they got a starting like that. At one point they were 145/0. And back also was at all in only 20 overs. Absolutely no batting depth.

And the problem of Papua New Guinea was when they started losing wickets, there could not form any kind of partnership. They lost one after another. They had a 146 run partnership for the opening pair. But after that there was nothing to really speak about.

For UAE, Muhammad Waseem stood strong on one side when wickets continued to fall from the other side scoring single digit runs. Finally Afzal Khan gave support and they started to score good reaching the score of 260 runs in 50 overs. Highest contribution came from Muhammad Waseem 96(106 balls) and Afzal Khan 94*(94 balls). If the two have failed then the score might be less than 150 runs which could've been a easy target for Papua New Guinea. For PNG Doriga and Ura contributed good, but the same didn't bring them win as the middle order completely failed to perform.

The team has several talented players. But no player's performance is stable. This is why they play well in one match and lose badly in the next match. They have competed to find acceptable replacements which has led to uncertainty and unpredictability within the team in spite of having talented players SriLanka have failed to maintain good form or firmness in matches. This has resulted in their decline in internetional cricket and improvemant will require outstanding efforts by team management to identify and develop players who can consistently perform at the top level.

Much reforms are required within the team. Only through that it is possible to make players have consistency in performance which is much important with ODI format cricket. With T20 matches, someone at his best can bring up the team. Similar situation doesn't happen with ODI. As said consistency is a big lack with Sri Lanka team. In its previous series against India, in the first match team scored 300+ runs and lost the match. In the second match scored 215 runs and lost the match and in the third match while chasing the target of 390 runs the team scored just 73 runs which shows the real problem with consistency in performance.

If both these matches gets washed out, they will end up with 87 points (one point behind West Indies) and therefore they may need to play the qualifier tournament for the 2023 ODI World Cup. South Africa will have two matches against Netherlands this week, and if they win those matches then they are through (irrespective of the outcome from NZ vs SL matches).
