That was a quick rest for Ginebra, we will be back with a new conference and this time with new imports (well, some had already played before). Justin Brownless is still playing, so we know that Ginebra is still the team to beat here.

Past ginebra win gather hype so might as well they gather that hype on next conference, but if the league will continue their harvesting traits to other farm teams then maybe the same on earliest days of last season maybe they can still experience that few people will watch their live games. Maybe they need to learn from last season since this is really bad for them if they continue to wreck the league.

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Ginebra going to the Finals, crowd will again support and PBA will make a lot of money again.
That certainly is going to be the scenario at most times and that is why Ginebra is always full force to their roster and performance because they contribute a lot for PBA's revenue.
By the way, did you guys saw the news that an Australian team wants to get in and is in talks with the commissioners?

I saw that news before but is there any new and recent progress on it? I like that idea even once per season. Guest teams, especially a considered strong team that has the same level or is much better than Bay Area Dragons, is a good test for our local teams to see their respective performance limit. Even SMB's JuneMar Fajardo wants to have another guest team as his team really faces a tough challenge during their semi-final match against the Dragons last conference.

Another thing, I also want the Australian team to take part in the PBA as a guest team as a sign of a good friendship. We all know that a big brawl happened between Team PH and Team Australia during the FIBA Qualifier game last 2018 and this partnership between Australian Basketball and our PBA is a good way to erase that worst event.

Meralco - KJ McDaniels
Magnolia - Eric McCree

MERALCO
I hope KJ McDaniels this time will be able to finish his whole Governors Cup stint. Meralco was able to bounce back from the bottom standing when he takes over as the team's import last conference. Prior also to that, when he was on NLEX last time, the team do have a good position at the standing but he didn't able to finish that conference due to some priorities which are just reasonable as the league halted the operation several times during that conference because of the pandemic.

MAGNOLIA
I thought Nick Rakocevic will remain as their import this upcoming conference and will try to build the team with him in the long run. They even somehow pointed out before if I'm not mistaken. Even got injured during their early games last conference, Nick does have impressive stats. Magnolia should at least consider what Ginebra does to Brownlee before that even underperforming as an import during his early season in Ginebra, they trust the process and are now worth the risks. But maybe they see something special with Eric McCree.

Is this going to be the last conference before PBA goes to break to prepare for FIBA World or there is still another conference after this? I believe the commissioner said before that they will have short conference to allow players to prepare for FIBA.

That would be nice if that pushes through. The Bay Area Dragon visit here in the PBA is quite a success. They have given the players good experience and competition. Australia will be good competition too.

That's the only news that I've read, no progress yet and I think that the finals of Bay Area Dragon and Ginebra really took their interest. They can imagine how finals would have 50k+ of live crowd/audience. That's certainly a lot to be considered and that only shows how Filipinos really like basketball. Since Bay Area Dragon will participate back to EASL on Japan by March, so that means that if ever the next conferences will allow a guest team then it's more likely that this Australian team will take the slot but, it would be greater if two slots for guest teams will be.

Yeah, despite they didn't take the finals crown but they're a runner-up, the first place. That only shown that onto these foreign teams, it only proves how basketball loving nation are the Filipinos.

Not possible for the next conference as the Governor's Cup will now commence on Sunday and that's the last conference this season. Probably next season and I hope that not just one, but two foreign teams as guest teams will be considered by the league.

There's a problem though. If you guys remember, Kume Marcial stated that they are struggling to fix the schedule when involving a guest team since these teams also follow their respective timeline that involves other league events. Even without a guest team, PBA is doing some adjustments to the local teams' schedule whenever there is an international event. More difficult if there's a guest team.

But that statement by Marcial was when Dragons is still new to the PBA that's why it's understandable that they are just in the observation phase. Since the Commissioners Cup now ended and it's a success, that should serve as a good experience for the league and they should consider continuing to involve foreign teams in the PBA if possible.

Yes, he almost pushes the chance for another playoff. Hopefully, this season he will be able to carry Meralco to the playoff or hopefully much better if they will move to the finals and win a title. Too soon though, since each team is all aiming, especially those top caliber team
who have deeper bench plus a good import as well.

Not sure what happens, or maybe Nick will be back next commissioner cup to play again with the team. He's good and the chemistry between all the players is really working well, it's just the attitude that he shows up during the playoff which really affects his individual performance. We don't know what's the plan is but we may see him back.

Is this going to be the last conference before PBA goes to break to prepare for FIBA World or there is still another conference after this? I believe the commissioner said before that they will have short conference to allow players to prepare for FIBA.
I just look at their schedule just this time and I didn't saw their first game Cheesy.
Yes yes they have at least a week of reset until they will go to train again for a week.

With regards to the last conference of PBA, there are some posts that I saw in Facebook saying the word "season-ending Governor's Cup, so I guess this will be the last season for PBA for this year in preparation for the FIBA. Also, the date for the final game of the Governor's Cup is March 17 and playoffs often lasts for 4-5 weeks so the conference will end at least around April-May. That will give the team at least 2 months of preparation.

The Bolts are 3-3 when McDaniels played for them as a replacement for their first import, O'Bryant. Not a good record at least for me, but good enough for him to be picked as the import of the Bolts again.

I guess his performance with his past teams also helped him to be picked because we know how dominant he is when he is in the TNT and NLEX back a few years ago. The Bolts believe that he can still be that guy. He averaged averaged 27.3 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.3 blocks and 1.3 steals on his 6 games. Very impressive and a reliable import.

MAGNOLIA
I thought Nick Rakocevic will remain as their import this upcoming conference and will try to build the team with him in the long run. They even somehow pointed out before if I'm not mistaken. But maybe they see something special with Eric McCree.
No other team has a resident import other than Ginebra so don't expect that they will get the same import on 2 consecutive conference.
It might be that Rakocevic has another contract outside PH that's why he didn't play again, but we all know how impressive he is in his stint in the Commissioner's Cup.

McCree is a left handed scorer and played in the NBA for the Jazz "for only 2 minutes". Nevertheless, he played well also overseas, and I also believe that left handed players are harder to be blocked. Let us see how he will play with the Magnolia.

We can put our bet now, it's already out.

In the first game, we have the Bolts who are the favorite, here are the betting odds.
Meralco 1.59
Rain or Shine 2.22
https://duelbits.com/sportsbook/home/basketball

I think we can also see James Yap return in ROS, not sure if he gets good minutes though.

In the early games, I guess betting on the underdog is a great strategy. I mean, we don't know the imports yet, although a certain team is better than the other, the most important thing to consider is the chemistry, which we haven't witnessed yet.

Rain or Shine is a good defensive team, with a good import, they will be a good team as well.

Last conference, coach Yeng wasn't really that effective, hopefully, this time he will bring back the old days when his team is going to the championship.

The Governor's Cup will start on the 22nd of January. Just a few days after the Commissioner's Cup, here we are again with another season.
Here are the list of the imports of each team.
Quote
Ginebra - Justin Brownlee
BlackWater - Shawn Glover
Rain or Shine - Michael Qualls
Phoenix SuperLPG - De'Vaugn Maxwell
Meralco - KJ McDaniels
NLEX -Jonathon Simmons
Magnolia - Eric McCree
NorthPort - Marcus Weathers
SMB - Cameron Clark
TerraFirma - Jordan Williams
Converge - Ethan Rusbatch
TNT - Jalen Hudson

Some imports played already in the PBA, some are first timers and we have an import which is our "kababayan" already. We got some former NBA players as well and some played in their own countries. I will not make any prediction since no games had been played yet. Let's see how these imports will have an impact with their respective teams, and I just hope that more audiences will watch every game.

Nice to see the list of new imports in some team of PBA which good to start to build thier chemistry in order to survive this race. And I was surprise when I saw the name of KJ MC Daniels which is pretty good pick by meralco because what we saw on the performance of kj Mc Daniels he is one of the best import that I know his determination and he has a good strategy. Maybe Meralco will want a favor and that is their import they will make a local too that's my opinion. But maybe

The import will play a big role here and knowing the import of Meralco, this can be an exciting opening game.
As they came from a long rest, I'm expecting a more competitive ROS this time as they signed James Yap again to help the team build their winning plays again. Meralco on the other hand should be more consistent this conference as they missed a lot of opportunities last year. This will be a long conference so let's see if ROS can have a good run here.

The Bolts are 3-3 when McDaniels played for them as a replacement for their first import, O'Bryant. Not a good record at least for me, but good enough for him to be picked as the import of the Bolts again.

That might be a different story if McDaniels played from the very first game. When he came to Bolts, the team is already struggling. No choice for him but quickly adjusts to the current phase and try to form chemistry right away with his teammates in the mid-conference period.

Let's see if he still has that agility and speed as if everyone noticed, McDaniels' build becomes bulky making him more effective at the paint.

No other team has a resident import other than Ginebra so don't expect that they will get the same import on 2 consecutive conference.

The reason I have that thought in my mind that Rakocevic will be considered again as Magnolia's import for the long term is because, if I remember correctly, I encounter an article last year, during Magnolia's winning streak in the early games last conference, that the team might finally find "the one" referring to their future and possible resident import.

Although not that I'm really expecting at 100% as I'm truly aware that it's not that easy to just decide on that "one". Smiley

CJ is a good import but him alone will be very tough as he will be facing a much heavier opponents, all the SMC franchise do have a competitive squad in terms of locals and with the import I'm pretty sure that they will bring tough competitors, though we already saw CJ playing with the Bolts earlier last season but the rally ain't enough to lift the team to move to the Semis, it will be his time now to try bringing more wins and competes with all the heavyweight and try to achieve winning the title.

Exciting to see new imports with their respective teams especially with Jonathon Simmons as he played for several season in NBA, expectations for him to play well and carry the team is very high. Probably many will watch live this time, even if its not championship yet its good to see PBA again after a week of no schedule, they started their new conference right away, let’s see if Ginebra can still be better this time as they came from a championship.

so that means that if ever the next conferences will allow a guest team then it's more likely that this Australian team will take the slot but, it would be greater if two slots for guest teams will be.

So that means that for the next conference after the governor's cup, then a guest team will be back. I think that it's a very effective way of attracting other league's teams so that they'll also join.
Is it the guest team that will pay for PBA to join or is it PBA that's going to pay them? Since franchises are being paid, that means that the guest team will pay to join, right?

No other team has a resident import other than Ginebra so don't expect that they will get the same import on 2 consecutive conference.

The reason I have that thought in my mind that Rakocevic will be considered again as Magnolia's import for the long term is because, if I remember correctly, I encounter an article last year, during Magnolia's winning streak in the early games last conference, that the team might finally find "the one" referring to their future and possible resident import.

Although not that I'm really expecting at 100% as I'm truly aware that it's not that easy to just decide on that "one". Smiley

He was not able to carry them to the Finals though. Maybe if Rakocevic was able to carry them to a finals berth, then may Magnolia will consider getting him as a resident import. There are advantages to getting a resident import, and just look at how Brownlee is doing. Being with the team for so long gives that camaraderie and chemistry that new imports can't experience. They are playing like Brownlee is not an import anymore but a regular part of the roster and they are winning championships because of it.

That is still not sure, but I think they are considering bringing guest teams regularly. The Dragons were a success, so they mostly want to do it again. But that would depend on the schedules of the foreign teams if it will fit the schedule of PBA, just like what goinmerry have stated.

Good strategy indeed and I even made an experiment on that one years ago on betting ML for the underdog on the early games of the elimination and it was profitable but risky as well hehe. In the first two or three games, the chemistry wasn't there yet and the regular players are still coping with their bodies to adapt to competitive basketball since they are out of the game for two months or more so they have to adjust and their mindset is that they can afford to lose the first two games.

Jorge Galent was announced the head coach of the SMB Beermen, could this have an effect on their campaign this Governor's Cup, your thoughts.
