I definitely don’t want to be on the Marlins pen in this one but we have a potential pitching advantage at the start of the game if all goes according to plans. Sixto Sanchez has pitched well, while Kyle Wright has not. Wright not only has an ERA north of 5.00 but his WHIP on the season is 1.55. The right-hander averages nearly 5.7 walks per 9 IP. He’s worse away from home and while this is a neutral site game, it’s not the home bump. Wright has been tagged for a 12.41 ERA & 2.52 WHIP with a .462 wOBA the second time through a batting order. Sanchez is pitching on less rest than normal but we do believe he’ll be able to make it through five innings. The young righty had one good start and one not so good start against the Braves this season. His changeup has been stellar, holding the opposition to a batting average under .150 against it. We will eliminate the advantage the Braves have in the pens and play the Marlins in the first 5 innings on Thursday.

We like Iceland to bounce back from back to back losses including an ugly 5-1 loss at Belgium. Iceland had a great 2016 Euro even knocking England out of the tournament. They are 2-0-1 in their last three Euro qualifiers and are 8-1-2 in their last 11 home Euro qualifying matches. Iceland have not lost a match against a side outside the Top Ten at home since June 2011. For Romania they come off a 3-2 win over Austria in the Nations League and are unbeaten in their last two matches. In Euro qualifiers, they have lost their last two, a 5-0 loss to Spain in November and a 2-0 loss to Sweden at home. It has been more than a decade since Romania have beaten a side as highly ranked as Iceland on the road. These two last meet in World Cup qualifying in 1996/97 when Romania beat Iceland 4-0 in back to back matches. Though some of these players were not alive when these matches played, this is a very different and more talented Iceland side. Point here is that Iceland comes off one of its worst losses of its modern history, they have not won a game this year basically and the first two have been lackluster, look for them to get a solid bounce-back win here.

The Yankees need this game. They are playing for their season in this one and I think that they are going to win this game in a blowout. The Yankees won the first game of the series but have lost the last two 7-5 and 8-4. If they lose tonight the series is over. The Yankees have the best lineup in baseball and they have scored 18 runs in the three games in this series. I think they will top that. Tampa Bay is going with a bullpen game. They are starting Ryan Thompson, a rookie reliever. I think the Yankees will get to him early and I don't think that Tampa Bay's bullpen is going to be able to slow the Yankees down in this one. The Rays are just 4-10 in their last 14 Divisional Round games and I think that they are going to have a hard time closing out this series. The Yankees are still 15-7 in their last 22 games and they are 35-16 in their last 51 games as a favorite. I like New York to get this one.

This is why you spend the amount of money the Yankees did on Cole and the way he has settled in the last month or so proves he is ready and the Bombers have been bombing so take them to get to the American League Championship Series.

Match: North Carolina Tar Heels - Virginia Tech Hokies

WIN!!! - PICK: NORTH CAROLINA TAR HEELS +7 POINTS for 6 UNITS (1.96 ODDS).

Both teams return a ton of talent from 2019, but I just feel Carolina has a major edge at quarterback and that will be the difference in this game. Braxton Burnmeister has not looked good in either start this season and has not thrown for over 170 yards in either game. QB Hendon Hooker may play in this game, but he will be rusty having not played a snap this season. Virginia Tech had Covid issues last week, holding out a bunch of players. Carolina did not look impressive last week, but they had a ton of time off and playing last week should get them back in the groove for this game. The Tar Heels have a strong rushing defense and the better quarterback in this game. Those are two indicators that this is the right side to take. The home team has covered the spread in this series 4 of the last 5 games. Virginia Tech is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games following an ATS loss in their previous game. Carolina is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games.

UFC Fight Night: Moraes vs Sandhagen

LOST - Take Stephanie Egger over Tracy Cortez (6:35p.m., Saturday, October 10th)

In the only female bout on this card, we have a preliminary matchup between Tracy Cortez (7-1) and Stephanie Egger (5-1). Let's start with Tracy Cortez; she is a tough fighter with decent all-around skill-sets, however she isn't a standout in any particular area. She has a high-pressure, aggressive style which allows her to be competitive and win fights regardless of her general size disadvantages for this division. Cortez will be facing off against short notice opponent, Stephanie Egger who will be making her UFC debut. Egger is a decorated Judo specialist who has competed at the highest level. From the limited tape we have been able to watch on Egger, she isn't as versatile as Cortez, but she is the bigger, stronger fighter who has the grappling ability to make things difficult. Judo hasn't had a ton of success in mixed martial arts as of late, but the bully style approach we expect Cortez to implement could really play into the powerful Judo style of Egger. Women's MMA is severely unpredictable at times, and while this could play out a million different ways, we believe Egger will be able to get this to the mat and if she is able to secure top-control, she can utilize her ground and pound and size advantages to put a beating on Cortez, while clearly winning rounds in the process. Egger is not getting the respect she deserves and that can often be attributed to the fact that she will be making her debut on the big stage. While we admit, we don't know what we are getting with Egger - this price may be grossly inaccurate and we will happily take the value on the dog. If we had more data, or tape we would feel more confident, and for that reason we will go lighter than usual.

LOST - Take Omar Morales over Giga Chikadze (6:00p.m., Saturday, October 10th)

Next up we have a featherweight matchup between Giga Chikadze (10-2) and Omar Morales (10-0). This is such a great contest, and has 'fight of the night' potential. Chikadze came into the UFC with some hype and has not disappointed thus far with a 3-0 record. He is a highly technical kick-boxer who utilizes feints, switch stances and unique timing to set-up and land clean counter strikes. He will be put to the test as he faces off against undefeated Omar Morales. What is interesting about Morales is how he is still flying under-the-radar. He's 2-0 in the UFC and has a decent resume, and has looked outstanding - but it seems he is still not getting the respect or appreciation he deserves. He's a solid boxer and will possess the speed and power advantages in this fight. The difference here could come down to Morales' ability to take this to the ground. Having said that, this will probably play out on the feet, and at range. Nothing would surprise us in this one and some respected money is coming on on Giga - but we have to trust our process and we believe Omar has what it takes to edge this one out more times than not with his volume and high pressure approach.

WON - Take Cory Sandhagen over Marlon Moraes (10:15p.m., Saturday, October 10th)

In the main-event of the evening, we have a Bantamweight title challenger matchup between Marlon Moraes (23-6) and Cory Sandhagen (12-2). Interesting fight here! Marlon Moraes has looked nothing short of outstanding since coming to the UFC. After losing his debut to Raphael Assuncao he managed to win 4-straight, knocking out both Aljamain Sterling and Jimmie Riveria. He also managed to avenge his prior loss to Assuncao. That earned him the opportunity to challenge Henry Cujudo for his title where he eventually fell short.. He started fairly well in that one but faded as the fight progressed, and Cejudo took advantage. The issue for Marlon is, and will always be, his cardio. There is no doubt he is supremely talented, has elite technical abilities and is extremely dangerous in all areas in the early going, but as the fight wears on he shows clear durability and conditioning issues. Cory Sandhagen on the other hand is totally different. He is more awkward and crafty in his approach. He's diverse in the way he attacks and uses his long frame well to control the pace and eventually outlast his opponents. Sandhagen also had quite the start in the UFC winning his first 5-fights, including common opponent, Raphael Assuncao, in a fight where he looked truly outstanding and put on a clinic! He then faced off against Aljamain Sterling in his last fight at UFC 250, but lost within the first 90 seconds via rear-naked choke. We don't want to read too much into that. Sterling started well, landed a beautiful take-down and was able to transition to the back perfectly. Aljo was on a different level that night. Sandhagen will now be looking to bounce back from his first loss in the UFC, and has the opportunity to do so against a legitimate title-contender. We believe we will see a highly motivated Sandhagen who will put on the best performance of his career. If Cory is able to utilize that 70-inch reach in the early going to keep this at distance in the early going and avoiding danger, the time will come where he can employ a higher pressure approach as Marlon starts to fade. We feel this fight is mispriced. Sandhagen has all the tools needed to win this, assuming he starts cautious. Once this fight reaches the 2nd and 3rd round, Cory will begin to open up and find ways to put an impressive beating on Moraes and once again put his name in the mix for the title shot.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish welcome a struggling Florida St Seminoles to Notre Dame Stadium and we should see tons points Saturday night. Saturday night this game will remind me when the Seminoles play Miami when the Hurricanes beat them 52-10. Last week Florida St struggled against Jacksonville St but came victorious 41-24 and that game flew 'Over' the total. Notre Dame hasn't played since September 19 when they beat South Florida 52-0 and I see the Irish putting up a big number against the Seminoles defense. I can easily see Notre Dame covering this big number but I believe the total flies 'Over' Saturday night and I see the Fighting Irish winning 52-17. Notre Dame is 4-1 O/U following a bye week Florida St is 8-2 O/U in their last 10 road games and the Seminoles are 20-6-1 O/U as a road underdog.

Most don't realize just how incredibly dominant the Los Angeles Dodgers have been in the 2020 season and getting them at this price here in this matchup offers extreme value. The Dodgers posted a .717 win percentage during the regular season which would rank as the highest win percentage by a team in MLB history if they had played 162 games. The Dodgers +2.27 run differential is also the best that we've seen from any team the past 80 years in MLB and by quite a big margin as well. They have looked even more impressive so far in the post-season as the come into this game undefeated in the 2020 playoffs posting a perfect 5-0 record currently and winning by an eye popping 3.8 run per game average.

The Dodgers hand the baseball here to starter Walker Buehler. He was out of action for the middle part of September dealing with an injury but since returning a few weeks ago he's looked even better than before as his velocity has jumped up even higher. In those three starts since being back he's posted an incredible 16.5 strikeouts per 9 innings. Buehler remains underrated as he's ranked in the top 10% of all MLB pitchers the last three years combined in K%-BB%, FIP and ERA (200+ innings pitched minimum). The Dodgers have won 8 straight and overall 9 of the 10 games that he's started in this year with the lone loss being a one run defeat. Getting the Dodgers at this price is excellent value as it's the lowest they have been priced in any of their last 15 games.

The bats broke out late yesterday in Atlanta’s 5-1 win. I actually like the Dodgers to even this series up but I’m not interested in playing them at their current price of between -160 and -170. That’s too high. Especially for a guy in Clayton Kershaw that has been objectively awful in the playoffs in his career. Ian Anderson has been brilliant for the Braves. Brilliant. But someone’s going to crack this nut. And he has benefitted from facing some weak lineups over the last few weeks, facing Miami twice and Cincinnati once. The Dodgers lineup is a whole different animal and I see them getting to him tonight.

I’m a big believer in starting with power ratings in playoff action and the true power rated line for this contest has the Rays 25 cents higher than the price at the time of this writing. The Astros have been putting guys on base but they aren’t hitting in clutch situations. It’s a combination of solid clutch pitching along with fantastic defensive play by the Rays and we see no reason to assume either will change on Tuesday. Ryan Yarbrough is expected to start for the Rays after holding the Yankees in-check for five innings last time out. The southpaw has allowed one HR in his last six outings and his control is excellent, walking just eight batters in his last 44 IP! Houston is 24th in MLB in both wOBA & wRC+ away from home against lefthanders (series being played in San Diego). The Rays will face Jose Urquidy and the righty has shown a little regression. He’s lasted 4.1 innings in each of his two playoff appearances, while allowing six HRs in his last 15.2 IP, including four homers in his last start. Tampa may not be piling up hits but they are hitting the long ball. Finally, we also have the advantage in the bullpen. I’m backing the Rays on Tuesday.
