OK, I've done a recovery and now have the SP20 no longer reporting that it is an SP10.  I updated the firmware to the 2.5.64 and seem to be back at square one regarding the unit not hashing.  It runs for about 5-6 minutes and then turns off cgminer.  During that time it's 100% discards. After that, the ASIC tab shows no adapter.  Before that, there was one.

This is on CKPool.  I have another SP20 running just fine on it.

Edit:  Also seeing issues with the gui coming back up after reboot.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Thanks.  I'm pretty sure it's on my side now (except for the 2.5.12 showing up as Dawson) Smiley  I swapped PSUs with the one sitting next to it, and now both seem to be working fine.  I'm going to let them run this weekend and if everything is good, I want some more Smiley

Lots of SP31 inventory or are they running out? A 2 pack of those for 3k would be a nice New Years sale and on par with the December SP20 $\ghash deal.

Thx guys, one cable end is fried, other 3 are slightly scorched.
...
Edgar, what PSU and cables did you use ?
Can you ship them for inspection ?

Cooler master V850 that was running a november jupiter at 1150 for 12 months without hiccup.

i can indeed send the damaged cable if you require it but i am confident it was an ever-so-slightly loose connection that has  overheated after a month or so of use and a couple of power surges that knocked out various rigs at various times.

i replaced the cable after scraping out the debris and am back at 1430-1510GH/s @ 940w

the  sockets of all 4 pcie slots on the sp20e look toasted but just that one is very bad

dont really wanna RMA as i lost a fair few days of mining while i was away and now there's that spike in diff.

I have 6 V850 psu-s. They are about 1 and a half years old.

2 days ago at one of them one pcie connector was melted on the psu side.

At all of 6 psu-s the cables were hot on the psu side.

Looks like have to be careful with them....

That, and I think they'll have a hard time moving them at the regular price. For me, two units right now costs US$1000 + 0.04BTC shipped, plus tax. At regular price two SP20s is US$1526 shipped to me plus tax. As nice as the SP20s are, that's extremely hard to justify when three S5s are US$1332. Sure the SP20s might ship a week earlier, but you're getting more hashing power with better efficiency for a couple hundred dollars less. The SP20s are in a really good spot right now at $500/pc shipped.

Is it possible to start a GB for 2 packs of SP31's or SP35's? If there's enough people interested - eg 100 members / 200 units, the price should become attractive.

2 packs??  I'd be happy with just one!!! Smiley  I would think not many people have $4000 - $5000 in BTC sitting around for a two pack.

Right now unless they are going directly into a datacenter (or have 208/240 at home (which I'd still lean to the SP20's for Home)) I have 10.4TH/s from 8x SP20's pulling 680-700w each for $4000.  All underclocked but if the price were right I would pick up 2 SP31's and put them in our datacenter just because (we own a large IBM Business Partner).

Edit: I read the rest of the thread. This is not a temperature issue. My bad.

Well it is a bit of a temperature issue, just the other type of temperature and in a very small localised area Shocked

My good news tonight is that my SP31 just shut down and I can't get it looked at till tomorrow.  Angry
We're ready to assist ...

That you Guy? Smiley

Hope someone just kicked the cable out or something. I could have got support to do an immediate call out but I've got a new firewall going into the rack tomorrow and everything is being moved around so it can wait.

Hopefully nothing serious, otherwise I'll be taking you up on your offer Smiley
It's me, going to sleep ...
You know Zvisha's Skype ...

All came back fine, all rearranged and safely behind new firewall... ahh.. feel much better.

Yeah I highly doubt it.  If I ever did expand I'd just stick to SP20s since I have 200A at our shop to use.  Just thought having something for the datacenter wouldn't be bad.

I'm confused, in the extreme hypothetical proposed here why on Earth would you choose SP20s over a 2 pack of SP31s for $3000?

I misworded so much of that LOL!  Meant at retail or even 4k for 2x SP31's I would take SP20's for mining not in a datacenter any day.  At home or in our shop (like me) I don't have to worry about being in a rack mount with big PSU.  At that price point for anyone with no datacenter access the SP20 any day of the week.  At 3k per 2 may not be everyones cup of tea but i think a lot would be interested.
