Peyton Manning absolutely changed the game of football. Never before had there been a quarterback who called plays at the line like he did. He was an absolute joy to watch every week. “Omaha” lol.

Others had done it before, but certainly not to the extent that Peyton did.  He was essentially the QB and the Offensive Coordinator, which makes a lot of sense if you can get it done.  He's the guy living amongst the opposing defense, and his team mates.  No one has a better real-time perspective of the game.

Good, veteran QB's are often getting 3 or 4 plays in their ear, which they take to the huddle and then choose one from the line.  Peyton took the whole playbook into the huddle because he had it all memorized.

Have you seen the movie American Underdog? It is a true story about Kurt Warner. To be honest with you I did not know who he is before watching the movie, however, from this movie it appears that the L.A. Rams is not unfamiliar in taking that type of risk. They might also have taken a much bigger risk on Kurt Warner who was considered to be not in the level of the NFL.

The one thing they never seem to take into account is intelligence, a great Quarterback is always smart.

All the athleticism in the world won't save you if you cant think on your feet.

I've never seen a stat to quantify that.

And you won't.  Being able to instantly identify the defensive set is one of the biggest differentiators between a decent and a great quarterback.  Peyton manning was a master at it. He always had 3-4 plays in the huddle for his guys.  Would go to the line and call the play based on the set.  He was the most unathletic person to ever strap on pads, yet was the best qb I've seen in lifetime.  (Along with Brady but that's a given)

I think huge improvements in that area could be made in the future, for example in the game of chess many studies have been made about the best players and it is known that a grandmaster can entirely reproduce a chess position after only seeing it once for a few seconds, as long as the position is one that can occurs in a real game and the pieces are not placed randomly on the board, also they posses the almost inexplicable ability to find the strongest play in a split of a second without the ability of making millions of calculations that a computer can make.

This sounds awfully familiar to what a QB has to do, which is to recognize the defense and then take the best decision based on his read, Peyton was probably the best at this, even better than Brady, with the difference that Peyton was given the freedom to change the play to whatever he wanted on the fly while Brady faced more restrictions and was not given this power by Belichick, so he took a different approach and just got rid of the ball as fast as he could to the target that had the best match-up.

Absolutely insane how good that family is at football.  I mean not only being good, Peyton is top 5 all time and I'm pretty confident Eli will be in the Hall of Fame.  Now they've got their young nephew who's a supposed star.. San Francisco 49ers fans, @DireWolfM14, is this rumor true? This might be head scratching because Trey Lance is cleary not ready to be the starting quarterback and if Jimmy Garoppolo is traded who will they get from the Panthers, Sam Darnold? This is clearly not the move similar to the Rams where they brought in an underestimated quarterback hehehe. This implies that San Francisco might be supporting Trey Lance for the whole of 2022-2023 despite of the risks?



When the 49ers' 2021 NFL season ended with a loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game, not many expected quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to remain on San Francisco's roster in mid-May.

But as the quarterback carousel unwinded in a busy offseason around the league, no team answered the 49ers' calls for a Garoppolo trade.

One of those teams that appeared to be a natural landing spot for the veteran quarterback was the Carolina Panthers, who entered the 2022 NFL Draft with Sam Darnold as their top quarterback on the roster. But the Panthers addressed the position in the draft by selecting Matt Corral out of Ole Miss in the third round, possibly signaling an end to rumors regarding a possible Garoppolo exchange.

If the draft was today, I'd pick all players whose last names start with a "B", that's how much I currently know about who's who in the NFL... I have some catching up to do.

For the next season I will pick the best players available in front of me and I will not try to be too smart and not try to do much research about making the picks. I was lucky to pick Ekeler first over Nick Chubb because of it or was it because someone picked Chubb before me and I picked Ekeler randomly hehe. Which proves that pick anyone in front of you will work.

It's rare that I pay attention to this kind of stuff, this time of year.  A lot of it is show and the ends are usually different than what's "rumored."  A great example is the draft-time drama from the Niners and Deebo, the latest with that of course; they're working on a contract, lol.

Every team in the league that's ever promoted a quarterback has given the media reason to believe that they still need the quarterback they've demoted.  For whatever bargaining leverage that's likely to offer, that's probably all this is.

But if you ask me, I'm not sure the kid is ready to start.

I'm not of an NBA fan, but it's been fun watching the Warriors lately.  Except for that one game in Memphis.  

I haven't been watching the USFL at all, has that been good?  There are a couple of other sports I like to follow this time of year, but my other favorite, the Premiere League ends this weekend.  There's still MotoGP and MLS for the remaining time between now and kickoff.  But the anticipation of the new season starts in earnest around July.

It appears you are correct. There is also this article which might only be trying to kill the hype on Trey Lance to lower everyone's expectations and reduce the backlash from the fans if he gives another bad performance. I am very skeptical of the sincerity of Chris Simms' criticism, he and Kyle Shannahan appear to be good friends and college buddies according to other articles.



Chris Simms did not hold back with his NSFW assessment of Trey Lance during the NBC Sports NFL analyst's annual QB rankings.

Simms ranked the presumed 49ers starter at No. 31, only one spot ahead of Sam Darnold, two spots ahead of Geno Smith. Not exactly elite company.

You shall not enjoy summer lol, i just completed my first 22/23 fantasy mock draft and got a very good grade, i never get straight A's. I passed on McCalfrey and picked Kupp with my first pick (1.5). 

We should probably start talking about the new forum league in the upcoming weeks, as training camps approach, pre-season is set for the first week of August.

Yeah, no pressure there's plenty of time...gotta see where we stand with players, it would be great if we can expand from 8 to at least 10, preferably 12...maybe switch from ESPN to Yahoo, and tweak some of the old settings, etc.

The fantasy draft happens right before the regular season, right?  I guess we have a little time, regular season kickoff is on September 8th, which is a little more 9 weeks away.  If we want to schedule the draft for the last weekend before the regular season, that'll be Friday September 2, and Saturday September 3rd.

I think you are missing a whole month somewhere, i counted 13 weeks. Yeah, September 2nd/3rd would be ideal for a draft.

12 is the way to go if possible. Makes the league more competitive and it is just overall more fun. 10 isn’t too bad but 12 is kind of that sweet spot. I’d be happy to be commissioner of the league if you guys wanted. I run the other league from here and have many times over the years. Would be no problem.

I agree, we should try to get 12 participants if we can.  It was fun last year with a small crew, but it would be fun to have some more competition.  There're usually two or three really good running backs, quarterbacks, receivers, and tight ends in the league, and with fewer teams it makes it easy for one manager to stack up his team with these high scoring players.  Having more teams makes that harder to do, and we'll all have to rely on the more average players week in, week out.

Yeah that's the thing, when you've only got 8 teams in a league, it's not fun when you're heading in to the playoffs and your opponent has a key player get injured but no problem, they can just go pick up a stud on the waiver wire. No fun.

We used ESPN last year.  It was fine, but some are saying that Yahoo is better.  it's been over 15 years since I've used Yahoo for Fantasy Football, but I didn't have any problem with it.  Whatever you experienced guys prefer is fine with me.

ESPN used to be better, it's what I used when I first started playing around 15 years ago or so but since then Yahoo has become a lot better IMO.  Fine w/either one of course.
