I keep reading rx480 GPUs can give up to 730 H/s but so far I've only ben able to squeeze 640 H/s on a Sapphire Nitro RX 480 8GB.

Anyone know how to acieve this? Any specific mod or config for the -a and -h value?

4x Asus RX480 8GB

Stock BIOS
Core clock - 1250
Mem clock - 2200

-a 4 and -h 1024

Results:
710 - 730 H/s

I'm pretty sure that Claymore can re-write code to support 4xx cards using approach for CDM and ZEC miners.

And we can mine up to 1000H/s per RX 480

At 750 h/s on an RX480, unless i'm mistaken, we're already at the top end of what is achievable while being stable.

Personally I hope Claymore leaves this miner just the way it is. The massive influx of RX card miners pretty much destroyed ETH and ZEC mining because so many RX noobs joined in with their gaming/mining rigs and drove difficulty way up (in the case of ETH) and drove the price crashing down (in the case of ZEC) by all the massive dumping on exchanges.

I'm really glad to have something to keep mining with my 290s, 290Xs and 390s.

So Mr. Claymore - please don't try too hard to make it easier for RX card miners, you will just flood the XMR network too! This is the last one left really. If you want to raise the dev fee a bit to leave it alone - I will personally be glad to pay it!

Crypto currency enthusiast and miner since 2015. Mined approx 200 ETH during 2016 and 2017 and sold it at approximately $US40 each. Then I watched it reach $1000+ each. If anyone bothers to read this stuff pay attention to this: HODL HODL HODL HODL HODL HODL

I started mining with 1 AMD 7950 and 1 R9-280X. Then I gradually built my AMD operation into 12 R9-290s. Awesome ETH hash but ridiculous power consumption and heat. Over the last year I defected to the Nvidia team. I now use GTX 1070s. They were expensive to buy (probably a bargain now) but awesome hash rate vs. power consumption. blah blah blah blah

yup exactly!  newmz got quite lucky that his old cards were good for mining ZEC, now he wants those of us with newer cards to effectively be punished by Claymore not updating this miner?  Man, talk about sour grapes lol.  But all is not lost newmz... you can keep on mining ZEC until it falls to $5 if it makes you happy to see those blazing hashrates lol.

I anyone having problems with this miner on a PC that is used for basic browsing? The miner is a bit outdated so I understand it won't be perfect for the 480's.

My PC is running:
6700K CPU (5% Usage)
16GB of RAM (30% Usage)
2x MSI 480 on Dwarfpool (100% Usage, Stock Cards)

The problem is, every once in a while, the hashate of both of my cards will drop from 700 to 500 and stay there. I have to restart my miner a couple of times and it will jump back to 700.

I also have issues randomly with errors:

Oh yeah, I also discovered that f.lux causes issues at times with the PC with the miner running. I assume it has to do with too much GPU usage from Claymore's miner (Expected when running at 100% utilization). My mouse would freeze up for a half second every couple of seconds. Just a note for anyone running f.lux with their PC.

EDIT:

I had taken f.lux out of the equation fairly recently so my guess may be that f.lux might have caused the issues. I will try without f.lux for a bit and see if that sorts the problem. Will leave my post up in case someone else runs into the same problem and stumbles upon it for future reference. Took me about a week to realize it  Roll Eyes

Listen your RX 480 won't hash at like 2000 H/s with XMR. Its pretty much very similar in speeds to a 280x - 290. Only difference is that it uses much less power.

If you don't believe me compare gaming benchmarks with a RX 480 and a R9 290 and see what results you get.

Just because your GPU is newer doesn't mean its faster, its the same speed just uses less power. No idea why so many noobs don't understand that. They keep complaining on the ZEC Claymore thread almost everyday.

NEWER DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN FASTER!

The RX 480 has FEWER cores than the R9 290, though it runs them at a somewhat faster clock rate.
It has quite a bit LESS memory bandwidth, which for XMR is CRITICAL as XMR is a memory-hardened coin (more so than ZEC, more comparable to ETH).
Specifically 256 bit wide 8000 Mhz for most of the 8GB RX 480 vs 512 bit wide 6000 Mhz for most R9 290 cards, so 2/3d of the memory bandwidth.

Compared to the R9 280x, it is the SAME number of cores at a somewhat higher clock rate.
It STILL has less memory bandwidth (though it's CLOSE here for most of the 8GB cards, 256 bit wide 8000 Mhz vs 384 bit wide 6000 Mhz for most R9 280x so only 8/9th of the bandwidth).

Even the REFERENCE R9 280x at 5000 Mhz has almost identical memory bandwidth to the RX 480 8GB cards.

The RX 480 is NOT going to achieve 1000 h/s on XMR (barring nitrogen cooling for INSANE overclocking).
In FACT, I suspect the current XMR miners are already optimised about as well as they can be for the RX series.

Be happy with your major hash/watt improvement over the older cards, they're ALREADY MINING "full speed XMR".

I have no horse in this game on the AMD side, the only thing I have working on XMR at this point is a pair of GTX 750 Ti cards.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!
