I tried -li 1 option, but this 'low intensity' i still too high for my desktop, is there any way to further adjust it?

You can reduce HashCnt with "-h" option, but it will also reduce hashrate. Anyway, you can try.

Tested Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X 7.0 (765/h) core(1100)-memclock(1680) AMD Catalyst 14.7 8.0 (730/h) core(1100)-memclock(1680) AMD Catalyst 14.9
What if specify "-h 1280"? If you use 4 cards then "-h 1280,1280,1280,1280".

Working fine here. Windows 8.1 Running 3 280x Toxics @ 1120c / 1780m [- h 896, -a 4] Power consumption went down 100w while my hashrate went up 100 h/s (33 h/s per card) Good job and cheers for the update

fyi I tried kminer-1.2b miner referenced in this thread
My system Windows 8.1 running Cat 13.12 drivers, cpu 1 core sempron 145 3 x 7970 PowerColor cards with Stilt mod bios running 1080/1500
kminer-1.2b give 1627h h/s at 600 watts, dev fee 0.7% vs claymore 8 cat 13.12 1620 h/s using 650 watts. dev fee 5%
So kminer1.2b and Claymore 8 are just about the same at mining speed, but dev fee is lower 0.7% vs 5% and uses 50 watts less on my rig.
Nice to see some competition

Couple questions:
Do cards from different manufacturers, but from the same model need to be tuned differently? IE 896 was the mentioned optimal number of hashcounts for a 280x, but does that change depending on the manufacturer of the card?
Does the memory type effect hash count as well? Elpedia needs a different hash count then hynix?
Weird shit, seems like -a doesn't do anything anymore for me. I've tried it on a few different machines, it doesn't change anything even though it shows up as changing in the program when it starts. It doesn't change wattage and it doesn't change hash rates. Overall I'm getting more hash with the same power as -a 2 in v7, but I can't change my options.

It's ok, for 4GB cards OpenCL allows 3GB only for using. If v8 is slower than v7 for 290 card, try HashCnt = 1280 for it, for your system with GPU #0 280x and GPU #1 290 it is "-h 896,1280".

for me claymore 8.0 works better, speed is almost the same, but temps, and power consumption are less on claymore.

Tnx, i just switched to kminer! I get about 50hash less on 290x, but 50hash more on 280x, and ofc only 0.5% fee
