You might be overloading the PSU. Overclocking would do it, or if your PSU was barely supporting the S3s through its PCI-ex, you might have that issue.
When that happens the PSU needs to stay disconnected for a bit and then it will start working when connected back to the wall. It is because of a failsafe within the PSU.

They are non-overclocked, power supplies are higher wattage than needed, Thermaltake 1200s. I think you're on the right track though, I'll double check things.

If this is happening on multiple PSU's and they are not over taxed, look at your power bar.  I have had them go bad or turn off like a circuit breaker if there is too much power flowing through them.  This is not a typical problem with S3's so I would look at your power from the panel to the PSU's.  See if there is a single point of failure.

Good idea... I switched out managed APC PDU's for Tripplite recently, they're rated for 20A and they show only 8A (when 2 Antminer S3's are connected). Could be a couple of bad PDU's in the batch.

Yes, juan is bitmain USA. Just curious why people are buying these as they will never ROI unless the price skyrockets or the diff drops?

Would you guys buy from 112bit.com?

My first 5 S1's came from 112bit.com.
Took my money, shipped fast, and delivered what I paid for.
Goods guys as far as I can tell.

Now I buy directly from Bitmain for less and argue with customs.

I imagine most people are in a situation where they're using BTC earned with other smart hardware investments to add GH to their rigs/farms at the lowest possible GH/$ on the new retail market.
Also, if you're not the least bit bullish on BTC you really shouldn't be mining,  Grin

There's been a a whole rash of new threads lately. I'm starting to think its mostly just other miners trying to commit subterfuge to keep the difficulty low Tongue

R47 is the Inductor...coil... DC buck convertor is small black chip above it... marked Ti 53355DQP ...  Grin

The design of DC conversion is looking very "quick & dirty" ...only 3 resistors and 2-3 capacitors ... Huh

Not even close to TI recommendations ...IMHO... Wink

ZiG

EDIT...: Just discovered a bunch of other components on the back of PCB...So maybe it is not a bad design...But still running too hot, IMHO...

This is the best I can do. Optimal settings are 218.

Even running that cool, I can't squeeze anything else out of them.
The only thing I haven't done is remove and re-paste the heatsinks.
But I just don't think that's going to be it...

EDIT: Just FYI, I'm running --queue 1 with lower loads over the past few hours.

yes and the sad thing is diff is on pace to be under 10%  third diff jump in a row..

so put 9% in your calc and these roi very nicely.  we are in the summer s-1's are being pulled off line.  and this stops the skyhigh diff jumps.  I am thinking we may go into sept before a jump over 15% happens.  these lower diff jumps will be good to anyone that has some s-3's mining now.  my batch 1's have mined for 10 days already.

I've gone to GREAT lengths to cool my DC/DC modules but am still having issues getting anything over 430gh.
I never get any ASIC errors at higher frequencies, though 212 will force one of my boards to not be recognized by the controller.

Chip temps are 31 degrees, DC/DC modules are cool to the touch.

I do see 475+ for about 30-45 minutes on one unit but it tapers off below 430 after more than 10 hours.
Using server power supplies and a separate PWS for the fans. (They are 12V 2A each)
I really love this pic. BTCkenstein coming to life in the DC. Throw a mad scientist in there and the pic is perfect.

We retired an open-stack cluster full of c6100s so we have these custom AcBel power supplies with 3 12+ rails that we use for...well...every miner we deploy.

And trust me when I tell you, our DC techs are some certified mad scientists...

Those G4s take me back. Heavy as hell but reliable.

They're 580s, which is the only reason we still have them in operation. We have them tasked as ITSP termini so the fact that every component is redundant and the processor trays can be replaced in minutes makes them still quite useful. Our lease at this site includes free power so our considerations for life-cycle are a bit different than your other more-lean sites.

I sure can give a few reasons. How about you go back to page 143 of this thread and read about it. Here is a link to that post.

The long and short of it was ordered batch 1. 25.5 hours later account changed to a batch 2. No contact made Ever from their side about the alteration. Checked 14 days later to try and guess where in batch 1 I was and WOW suddenly I am overpaying not only for batch 1 but its now magically a batch 2. I start disputing the change. In 48 hours I got 1 email replied to the first never was replied to. Fair compensation for an item I do not want and was not contacted before someone acted as a purchasing agent was 0.02 btc. 112bit took my bitcoins, moved my order to a later batch (they oversold batch 1), made no effort to get my permission to alter our agreement and while in dispute shipped the damned thing. To make matters worse out of 7 emails I have received 3 replies in 8 days. I got my tracking # the day it was put into the depot (6 days after it was "shipped") of course being a good authorized distributor located in Florida USA the package came from China. Since it was handled so marvelously apparently batch 1, 2 or 3 really make no difference as to shipping day so 112bit doesn't seem concerned about it.

I'm waiting to know if he would agree to I think a more reasonable everything over 1.48 he charged me or a full refund. Of course Tuesday or Wednesday it heads back. Then reasonable is full refund.

I think I misread your sarcasm. Sorry.

<VENT>

I was batch 1

ordered 18 S3 miners

One S3 had 14 chips marked x and eventually -

I contacted bitmain via the new messaging system on their website and patiently awaited a reply for the next 7 days.

In the mean time another unit stopped hashing although I could view the web gui. Just no chains.. gone.... Fans at full tilt. Tried re-seating cables.. nope.

So, I took the control board out of the unit with the 14 dead chips and put it in the unit with no chains... Success, a functioning S3 again.

Contacting Bitmain on these forums I explained the situation as was directed to email them. Which I did, explained the whole ordeal and asked for advise on what to do with malfunctioning unit.

Flash new firmware was the reply, dont check keep settings. Failure. I informed them so. Silence...

Over my time I have made 24 seperate orders from BITMAIN totalling ~50BTC.
First time ive contacted them to say, "Hey, this ones broken".

Im not big on public outcries, however, on this forum-thread I note another member who had controller board problems and it wasnt until he made it public that action was received in the form of an RMA.

So, here I am
