I love the guys who come into this forum and say DON'T MINE BITCOINS. Hello? This is a Bitcoin mining hardware forum, why do these type of people come here. Go Away!
Hello?
Some people have no miners and no btc, they are just bitter and angry.

Time to do my happy dance!!
My S3's from Batch 1 just arrived....now to go to work and get them up and running
I think it took me more time to take them out of the boxes than it did to set them up. I like the build, much better than S1's. I'm going to let mine "soak" for a while at the factory setting and check them in the morning. Right now they both are clocking at 218.75 and hashing at 440 & 450.

Any word on B4 sales?
Id be will to bet they won't start until the 1st of next month at the earliest. why? I would think they made solid money with the first four batches. So why not sell more? I have a question about this just building on the previous post about my S3 pre-order from http://www.bitmainantminer.com/ I opened a Paypal dispute querying how legit this company is as its all bit suss (e.g. no order email confirmation, another domain registered under same address selling mining hardware, no experiences posted on forums about this place) although intensive google search reveals no complaints or signs of scam. These might be brand new and just collecting cash and then disappear but who knows. Now I contacted them and asked them, how come they are saying they are selling batch 4 which they will ship out 30th July since you guys here on forums are saying that there is no pre-orders opened at all on batch 4 yet. I received this reply: "We're selling batch 4. Batch 1 was shipped July 10, Batch 2 on July 20, Batch 3 is currently shipping. We're not sure why Bitmain has not released batch 4 on their website yet but we've been told it ships on/before July 30 and we've taken hundreds of orders for Batch 4. You can contact them to verify this if you'd like."so I sent an email to Bitmaintech directly asking them about this seller, hopefully they will reply soon. Any thoughts on whether any of this is the truth ? Are there other official mining hardware sellers here on forums that can confirm if Bitmain batch 4 pre-orders are open to them? Thanks in advance.

Most likely you will get your money via paypal dispute process. Buy directly from bitmaintech.com or from reputable sources.

^^^ I was a bit miffed to see this seller on ebay - taking away any chance of a re-sale - in some ways I hope it's not actually bitmain...
[edit] funnily enough - I no longer can find 'bitmain' seller on ebay... maybe they suspended his account?

hey guys,
So I`ve just under clocked my 2x s3 to 212.50 each and they are running at 425gh\s each. Also, at the same temps as before 41 degrees C. been going 4 hours now.
Frequency GHS(avg) Temps HW Watt (Kill-A-Watt) ASIC Status ---------- ---------- ------- -------- ------------------ ---------------------- 250 487.26 41, 41 2 428 Chain#2, 1 "x" on the far right 237.5 423.55 39, 37 38 367 All OK 225 422.69 39,36 7 364 Chain#2, 1 "x" at 2nd position & 1 "-" at 8th position from left 218.75 403.58 40, 38 0 355 All Ok For sh1ts and giggles, I did the 212.50 on my S3: 212.50 424.81 37, 34 1 362 All OK This is at 1 hour mark. I think I'm going to keep it at 212.50, I like the low temp at this frequency. and dont u prefer: 250 487.26 41, 41 2 428 Chain#2, 1 "x" on the far right instead of: 212.50 424.81 37, 34 1 362 All OK i mean, its 62,45 GH/s more, yeah temp is lower with 212.50 and also Watts but.. mmmm Would be nice if others did the same as jamesc760 and posted their frequencies with how much GH/s they get, possible hardware errors and Watts

Found out why one of my units was not hashing and having X's on the chips. Paste was everywhere on the inside. Even the screws holding the heat sink on had thermal paste on them.

I think you're about to be scammed, dude.
well this is the weird bit, they are saying I can have the refund if I want but will obviously loose my pre-order. Not sure if I should just wait until 31st July and see if they come through or just ask for refund now. I got nothing to lose at the moment as I have time to escalate the dispute with Paypal and the seller has been responding to my messages so have been cooperative.

Wait for Bitmaintech to sell Batch 4 and order at that time like everyone else. Remove the middle man. Get your order direct from the source, and lose any doubt you have about it being a scam.

then whats the points of it?
It's called a hobby. Ever heard of the term? I know guys who have spent over $100,000 fixing up cars. They won't ever get ROI on their hot rods but they don't care. It's what they are passionate about. If you don't understand then go buy some BTC and sit on it.

Thanks for sharing this. How did you rectify the excess paste, and what was the impact on hashing performance of that unit? (Looks like now that BITMAIN has a heatsink also on the component side, this creates an 'opportunity' for this sort of problem) Cheers

I cant understand why people are purchasing s3's, the return at the current difficulty is 8usd aday, about 50 week and you spend 468.5 usd? ? How are you going to make your money back, not forgetting running costs... For many of us this is a hobby that we all understand will not make us rich. I will be happy to break even. Just like my other hobby that I throw money at, I have a race car that I know will cost me more than I make in winnings. Why do I do it? Because I enjoy it. If you are depending on your Bitcoin mining to survive, you need to find a better way to earn a living. You enjoy throwing money down the drain? I started in late March 2013 with 1 graphics card. I've mined, reinvested in newer hardware and sold old hardware. I've been through gpus, fpgas, erupters, blades, cubes, saturns, S1s, Dragons, and now S3s (and a couple U2s). I've gone from 30mh/s to 6Th/s with no additional outlays in cash. I've converted some coins into precious metals, and have properly reported items on my tax returns. If I would have just bought $250 of btc @ $38/coin, I'd have a little over $4k now. Instead, I currently have $3-5k in btc and at least $6k in hardware. Plus it's fun. Wow that is an awesome story bro. This is why we mine Bitcoins people. Bravo

Are your units hashing without X's now that you cleaned up the paste? Please share more fully.

So ... has anyone who opted for a 7.7% BTC refund received it yet?
The miners shipped on time ... the refund (for me) awaits ... still shows 'init' on the bitmain site.
