Why is everyone still beating this dead horse.? It's been pretty well established that "HEAT" is NOT the cause of the S3 problems, it poor design and possible sub-par components.
We've already read that some users have put their S3's in front of A/C units and experienced no improvement.
Now we have pages of people trying to put heatsinks on chips that dont need them.
Lets face it , Bitmains first performance figures were "optimistic" and probably thrown out there in a hurry to get the machine to market, and after further testing they realized that they made a mistake.
That's why they gave us money back, not enough but a good gesture, not many companies these days would do that.
If we are into Batch 4 and possibly batch 5 with no hardware changes then I think you can safely assume that it is what it is and probably cannot be fixed.
If there was a fix to be made, I think Bitmain would have done it .
This is not a problem that firmware up grades will fix either.

I tend to agree with you.
I believe the stock setting should be 212.5 with 430gh and 328 watts on a gold psu.
They now sell them at 218 with 441gh and 340 watts on a gold psu. >>>>>>>>> I feel this is not stock but a small overclock.
The real mystery is the s-3's that do 480gh or 500gh and freq 237 or freq 250.
It is definitely a mystery. My first two from B1 can stably hash at:
480GH/s at freq 237
510GH/s at freq 250
I'm using EVGA Supernova 750w and Corsair CX600 to power them. They reach to temperatures at around 45C.
Well, with all due respect, compared to the S1 dot dot dot... this is a treat
First off, I didn't read everything but anything of a first batch is likely to have some problems, just like cars, game consoles, computer games and about anything.
Why freak/spazz out, or even wonder why/how this can even happen, it's facts of life, sit back, relax, twist one up and play some Crysis or something...
You get the honors of trying out a new product, if you're a retailer, you make money with faulty ants as a display (attract buyers)
That's why consumers should buy early in any new batch of anything, it's not as hard for a retailer to pick up the tab of faulty units than for an individual.
Why add a bunch of custom parts for which the main machines that was not designed to adapt or even work with?
Great job on voiding your warranty on Day 1, I guess, to those who tampered with solid parts and those who overclocked lol
There's the #1 reason why you don't want to order a new product too early, too many issues, no reviews...
If you REALLY want to make a difference in cooling those ants, get a stronger fan than stock, it's probably the best way to add cooling power.
You'd do better with Welder type fume-sucking vents than you would adding A/C.
Welding shops are perfect for Bitcoin mining for many purposes, such as lots of power and lots of ventilation.
Don't cool, ventilate and duct adequately.
Mine run steady at 43 Degrees and it's getting kinda warm in my lab (summer); one thing some miners seem to forget... both heat and cold affect performance.
Next winter, if you live in a cold climate like I do, you may be looking to get additional heat for your ants...
Last year, I complained to Bitmain about my S1 ants hashing being erratic and later found out it was too cold in that particular room.
Which I believe is what helped "wrap up" the entire unit as we see now, like a blanket.
I seriously had to put a blanket around them for a few months.
My machines are still hashing at steady 435 GH/s average and went over 500 a few times W/O OC
It is showing 1.8 to 2.01 TH/s at the pool I am currently mining at, with 5 OC'd S1's, all in the same room.
That's why I only bought 2, I got more of later batches.
Maybe at some point they will stock at over 500 GH/s but the first few batches aren't; at least we got some (otherwise) quality miners at an amazing price.
