To all of those who have worked the front heatsink and paste. How tight did you go when re-attaching? I normally wouldn't be paranoid about things like this but it seems like they weren't that tight from the factory at all. Certainly don't want to crush any SMCs.
Tighten until resistance?
DO NOT USE ARCTIC SILVER 5 IT CONDUCTS ELECTRICITY ..OR ANYTHING WITH SILVER IN IT.... STOP THIS NOW and if you have done this....get cleaning using a proper electronics alcohol FFS No, it does NOT. Please stop posting potentially wrong info with so much emphasis. From the product sheet: Hey Biodom, it is capacitive. Your should not use anything silver based near electricity. The arctic silver site even says as much in a warning. Again, don't use a conductive or *capacitive* paste on these chips. There is no way you will keep them off all of the pins and it will come in contact with electricity. Again, even the manufacture says to not use it where it may come in contact with electricity. I am sure AS is great for a large processor with pins on the opposite side of the chip. However, that is not this situation. Ok, thanks, I read it. In practice, however, it made no difference, but I kept it totally off the pins (used razor blade to spread a half mm-mm layer on top, then used Q-tip "wet" with isopropanol to remove slightest contamination around working with a magnifying lense. Maybe not the best, but no problems and chips are cool at 40c. BMT slapped it all around, pins and all and I have no indication as per their paste electrical/capacitive properties.

It irritates me that my B3 units arrived on Monday (end of the day), and B4 users are getting their units 3 days later. I'm pretty sure that I was one of the first B3 users because I was nervously refreshing the browser waiting for B3 units to be on sale on the Bitmain site.
So I paid more and didn't get much of a head start advantage over B4 users.
Anyway, I guess I should be glad that both units work nominally without changes like under clocking. Bitch mode off...

Man I tried.. They said driver would not be back until 7:15. They close @ 7PM. lol. I told them to hold it and I'll just pick up there tomorrow. I hate when this happens. At least it's in town and not stuck in a shipping fiasco like some. Missed my UPS guy and he didn't leave them. Called in and I'm going to try and pick them up from the UPS office this evening. The one time this dude comes before 6PM.
if ur packages arrived at the warehouse, go call the UPS, and ask them if you can pick it up by urself now u'll always ended up dissapointed if u want to wait them to deliver it trust me, just pick it up urself, then mine immediately I got mine today, heard him from the basement with his squeaky ass brakes. Ran upstairs to see him "tossing" them up to the front of his brown van, and then deliver them to me. He got my signature, verified the address, I asked him if he needed any ID and he said "no, whats your last name".. Satisfied with my answer he said "Have a nice day." I told him you too and went inside.

Staring thoughtlessly at my new miners, still wrapped in their plain brown boxes I remembered 3 things. First, I really did not like the new waitress at the restaurant down the street, she was quite ugly. Second, I was thirsty and wanted a beer. Finally, I really had better get these things down stairs, before my wife arrived home.

Finally, I really had better get these things down stairs, before my wife arrived home. I'm okay if this becomes a thing. Please continue. Taking a long drag from my cigarette, I wondered if the ugly waitress holding a beer would change my opinion of her? You see I hadn't actually introduced myself, I worried she was the type that was desperate for attention from men. I quickly dismissed the idea as I put each miner under my arms and carried them into the basement. I quickly descended the stairs, feeling the warmth on my face increase with every step along the way. I noticed I had left the netflix on, an episode of Family Guy was staring back at me. You know the episode where James Woods invites everyone to his mansion and then gets killed? I can't recall what exactly happened next, either it was the smoke from my cigarette that got into my eye or just the damn cat brushing my leg. But, the next thing I knew, both arms were releasing the miners as I braced myself for a fall. I hated that cat. I knew my dog would never trip me, especially not with my beloved miners in my arms.

Stumbling aimless towards the support beam in my basement, I managed to secure one miner against my chest. The other miner was doomed, flying across the room with such force it hit the chair with a thud. Kicking towards the cat, I quickly set down the box I had managed to hold on to and rushed towards the other box like one would rush towards loved one who had injured themselves.
Recalling all the humane societies in the area, I used my pocket knife to cut the tape from the box and opened up the miner. The damage was minimal, the padding had held. Turning towards the cat, she was no where to be found. Like the waitress, I had no love for that cat and decided no amount of beer would change such things.
Maybe it's my ADD or just needing to change my tone, I hit play on the Netflix and continued to take the miner from it's brown padded box. Seeing no reason to worry about this any longer, I unplugged an old miner and promptly plugged this new, potentially damaged one right in.

From the product sheet: Not Electrically Conductive: Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity. Sheesh regarding thermal grease: unfortunately reapplication of grease did not help AT ALL (at 18 hr mark). See below how bad the grease was applied in batch 3 machine by BMT, yet no help from new grease. You are both a danger and a joke at the expense of your own EGO? why not post the rest of the page FROM THE AS5 SITE? Not Electrically Conductive: Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity. (While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.)Exactly. You said that it conducts electricity in your barrage, NOT that it has capacitive properties. Keep it away from pins and you'll be OK. Conductor=material that permits passage of electrical current. capacitor=electrical component used to store energy ELECTROSTATICALLY. Generally, a little more research and less emphatic expressions would be beneficial. Are you in marketing or just believe everything you read....what annoyed me the most was that you re-gurgitated the words from the AS5 site but willfully neglected to post the CRUCIAL WARNING underneath the sunshine you were attempting to have come from your ass a line of grease storing electrical charge...what exactly happens in your world when grease storing electrical charge comes in contact with components its not designed to contact? (correct word is SHORT CIRCUIT with 64 pins around each ASIC) try an experiment with your capacitive grease make a line of it with voltage on 1 end in contact and measure the other....tell me what the voltmeter says besides 0.00 I wont spoil the result...you cant keep it away from pins unless I don't know what..but in this application it is not practical at all...and there is a huge difference between the modern CPUs that AS5 is designed for..even then why use something that has a potential for catastrophe when it can be so easily avoided...Artic silver was good back in the day...till people shorted out too many boards video cards etc...evolution is a wonderful thing... u can brush your teeth holding the toothbrush in a barrel of a loaded pistol if you want to be a real cowboysorry I had to go a bit off topic but a laugh is always healthy

Hey Biodom, it is capacitive.
However, that is not this situation.
why dont you try thermal pads...
