Eventually I tested both ways (on the same unit), with the fan inside the case blowing up/down.
Blowing down = 43C. Blowing up (as they are shipped by BFL) = 39C.
Was this with case on or off? I've heard that it's only worth it to swap the fan if you remove the case, and run it bare. Either way, thanks! my bitcoin retired gaming mining rig. As long is inside the case the Jalapeno is better cooled as shipped by BFL. (fan ^) If you remove the case OTOH the aluminium radiator (and chips) are still properly cooled, but the board and the MOS-FETs are rapidly overheating. This time you need to point the fan downward since there is no case to channel the airflow properly.

Just to share what I have done to my 5GH Jallies. 1) remove the side casing (not the top one with the logo) - because air are trapped inside 2) flip the fan to blow on the heatsink instead - because IMO, it's better to blow on the heat sink rather away 3) invert the whole jallies e.g. putting it upside down - because the bottom is also heated up when it's running, so I kept the bottom surface on top for better cooling
Next step is to flash those jallies to 7GH/s

Yea, follow these guides will do the job. Thanks philips for pointing them out. My suggestion is to read them, read them again, then read them again. any missing/wrong step, will make ur jallies to useless paperweight

I find Dual-X coolers to be pieces of shit. I only use Asus. A friend of mine also does mining with a Sapphire Dual-X HD7850 and has like 5 fans pointed at it @100% fan to be like 75 degrees. And the clocks are horrible, 900 core/1250 mem (LTC). I can run 2 asus DCII HD7850's in one normal case at 50% fan and both are 55 degrees, clocks: 1265 Core, 1502 mem (LTC, otherwise mem clocked down )

Well, sorry TL;DR: only if you solder on a new oscillator, provide more power than standard USB, and keep good airflow on it

If it'll make you any less depressed... Because the width of the USB connector is standardised, I can easily work it out by counting pixels. I measured the width of some standard USB connectors around my place with calipers and they were all 12.00 +/- 0.02 mm From your supplied image, 90 pixels = 12.00 mm, thus 7.5 pixels per mm Also from your pic: X = 449 px = 60.0 mm Y = 188 px = 25.1 mm Z = 299 px = 39.9 mm I have measured leniently the dimensions, they may be about +/- 0.1 mm, favoring the larger for your convenience so that it fits wherever you plan it to. And, Heatsink width: 25 mm Heatsink length: 40 mm Heatsink thickness: ~2.2 mm From end of heatsink to end of USB: 20.2 mm
