There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

2 7990s is almost exactly the same as 4 7970s, maybe slightly less power, and you won't be able to OC them as far. I'd say 2.5GH/s is about right.

I picked up an $80 6870 3 days ago and WOOT WOOT.. my 3 gpus are knocking out a verrry cool 1.06+ Ghash/s.

The 6870 is running the 12.10 drivers, while the other 2 are running the 12.11 beta11s. All three are using Guiminer v2012-02-19.  Cool

HD 7870 - 1250/750, 456-461 Mhash/s, stock 1.218v., 0% power limit, -v -w128 -f10
HD 5850 - 850/600, 324-327 Mhash/s, stock 1.088v, -v -w128 -f70
HD 6870 - 950/750, 278-284 Mhash/s, stock 1.175v, -v -w128 -f70

You must be doin something wrong. I have a 5850 @ 785/151 1v doing 328 mhash, which is more mhash than your 5850 at 850/600 stock volts. You must be losing a lot of money Wink

He already said he's using the 12.10 and 12.11 drivers, which has a newer OCL runtime. You're prolly using SDK 2.1?

Which miner and what drivers and settings are you using ?

Did you notice that the 5850 is set to f70/desktop mode ?

50-100 mhash/s is not alot of money but would make for a nice but small performance boost.

From what I see here, the 5850 is on par with most on the comparison list. Its the 6870 that I'm a little worried about, tbh..

That's what I assumed. For 7xxx cards, that's fine, but you will get that extra 50-100MH/s boost on the 5xxx or 6xxx cards if you use the 2.1 or 2.5 SDKs.

Thanks for the tip ! Smiley I'll install and try 2.5 now.

update..

Just realized that 2.5 won't work with the 7870 so I'm downloading 2.8.

IIRC, 2.8 is what's included in the newest drivers, 12.10 and 12.11. You can install 2.5 as a separate installation, but you're going to have to run 2 version of CGMiner, one with 2.5 on the 5xxx and 6xxx cards, and a second one with 2.8 on the 7xxx cards. I mean you could run all the cards on 2.8, which is what you've been doing, but it won't be quite optimal.

You just gotta be difficult, don't you? Wink

I'm not difficult. Tongue Taking the 6870's shroud apart WAS ! lol

I'll try the 2.5's on the 6870 in a day or two.

The 2.8's didn't help but it was worth the shot.
