Can I run both wallets simultaneously to move my balance across? (I'll take a back up of my wallet.dat)
But I guess the path to the wallet.dat is the same - ~/Library/Application Support/Magi so the answer would be no?

You cannot run two wallets on the same machine simultaneously. That is an absolute and the reason why it will not work is a conflict with the network ports required. However, you can run two (or more) wallets on one machine if you keep track of the wallet.dat files so that only one is "active" at any given moment. I do this quite frequently. You can have two wallet files, say wallet1.dat and wallet2.dat, then just take a copy of one of them, rename it to wallet.dat and run up the magi-qt.exe wallet application, do what you have to, then close it down again. Backup that wallet.dat by renaming it to something else, rename the other one to wallet.dat, run up the magi-qt.exe wallet application, do what you have to with that one. You see what I am doing there?

Edit: Additional - the secret to effective "staking" is to send all your coins to yourself every 30 days.

Thank you - understood

After backing up my wallet.dat, I've renamed ~/Library/Application Support/Magi to ~/Library/Application Support/MagiOld and am syncing the 1.2.2.1 version of the blockchain to the "new" ~/Library/Application Support/Magi
with a bit renaming I can then flip / flop between 1.2.1.1 and 1.2.2.1
Cheers

Nice good to see this guys!

One small point. There is no difference in the blockchain required by the two wallet versions. The newer wallet runs just fine with a blockchain from the old version and vice-versa. Same thing applies with the wallet.dat files too.

I had a problem this weekend for about 2-2 and a half days. While i could see and connect to the pom pool website, no miner could connect to the pom pool. No response from the pool either when i pinged it. Changed my dns servers with google dns and opendns in case something was wrong with my isp dns servers but nothing. Sunday night, i was able to connect again.

Does anyone have any clue about what was the problem?

I keep my eye on the pools constantly and did not find any problems with the pom pool. Are you using the address stratum+tcp://mining.m-hash.com:3334 ?

Yes the address is correct. It works ok now, the problem happened during the weekend (while the forum here was down). All miners did not get any answer from the pool, timed out and stopped.

Problems like this are nearly always something to do with DNS and very likely your ISP. In some cases, setting your DNS server to Google or another third-party DNS server will not cure the problem because your router locks you into your ISP's DNS servers anyway. I have this very problem with my Virgin Media router box (thank you very much Mr Richard Branson). If your router allows it, then setting your DNS server to Google usually gets rid of those transient problems.

Did someone worked on that windows idiot's proof guide for updating wallet?

Did somebody commit to that? I am working on something else. In the future, you will only have to click on a couple of buttons onscreen.

Just wanted to point out i'm not interested in it, but the future of alcoin is common people, those who don't know what pgp is, those who don't know what a shell is, those who are used to app on their ipad. If we can arrive to them in anyway, Magi has won

Agreed 100%. While providing an app for a non-jailbroken ipad would be a particular problem, it is certainly a direction to be heading in. We need people to take up these challenges voluntarily. That is what I do on the Windows side of things - nobody tells me to do it and certainly nobody pays me to do it, but I do it anyway. People often mistake me for one of the XMG devs, but I have no such title. I just care enough about the future of XMG to get involved and make a difference.

A value of 10K coins keeps standing in unconfirmed, while other
30 mins later sent coins are already in the balance.

What's wrong?

Curious. My first thought was that the transaction might have ended up on an orphaned portion of the blockchain. Does the transaction also show up as unconfirmed on the sending wallet?

Yep, seems due to orphan blochain. Very upsetting I'd add.

Congratulation for your wallet btw, 70.000 xmg is a very interesting amount!

I noticed last night that one of my miners "found" a block that became orphaned. That made a connection in my brain with this problem.

Upsetting, but it ought to be unconfirmed when looked at from the sending end too so that the books will balance and no XMG have "disappeared".

So what could be a solution if something like this happen? Just retry to send the coins to another address?

I have heard about this kind of thing with Bitcoin, but never experienced it myself. As I understand it, the transaction remains unconfirmed and will take some time to "clear" since it no longer carries a transaction fee and has to wait its turn to be cleared for free. I think that simply double-spending the coins kicks something into life, so try repeating that transaction and see what happens. Caveat: I am not an expert and I am not telling you to do this. Backup everything first.

I used repairwallet on the sending wallet. I got almost everything back. Then i tried to send them again.
Not possible, error message.

Then restart wallet, repair wallet again, now i could sent a few.
Problem : They don't come into the other wallet.
Again repair wallet, they came back.

I'm afraid there's a big problem with sending coins between wallets now.
I can't sent any coin anymore.

You started the wallet with -rescan from a command line? That is pretty much all you can do. Do it with both receiving and sending wallets and you increase the chances of the missed transaction being processed. When you start the wallet with -rescan, it will re-broadcast any missed transactions but you still have to wait for it to be picked up for processing. It should clear completely in time.

Keep us informed about any results Frisian.
I know you always make backups so give it some time. I had something like that long time ago.
Without doing anything the problem was solved.

It should resolve itself in time. There is nothing more that you or anybody else can do and the problem is not unique to XMG.

I hope I am right too Wink

Some time ago I had a weird incoming transaction for about 170 XMG that I did not know where it had come from and it would not confirm - it was just stuck there for about a day or so. I traced it to a POS block that seemed to be in some kind of state of limbo. That one went away all by itself, without me doing anything other than restarting the wallet.

Can anyone speculate what's in store for the future of Joe's (he did create it, correct?) M7M algorithm?  It's very surprising that more attention hasn't been given to this unique concept, especially considering today's popular algos (and each one's possibly crippling flaws).

Give it to me straight - what is the best and worst of M7M?  Could it catch on if other algorithms succumb to their inherent flaws? Is M7M simply unique to XMG, and cannot be reverse engineered for other coin?

...I'm still reading up on M7M so forgive any stupidity  Roll Eyes

Thanks for asking. It's not a stupid question amigo Smiley
I did a short search but i think at the moment Magi is still the only one using the M7M algo in combination with the unique blockreward system! Maybe there will come other coins with M7M. (clones). But why? What will be the intention for a copied coin. Think we all know the answer for that.
About the attention; yes i think Magi deserve more attention. As we all notice the attention growing step by step. I think thats a good thing.
It also gives the team and community time to work on more unique developments. Personally I have a fulltime job and the promotions, campaigns and other things I do for Magi I do in my free time and for free. And there are more people working for Magi free or receiving small rewards. I think the drive to give the crypto world a unique and fair coin without ipo and premine is very big. The fact that all people can mine Magi is nice. And also the awesome development of the standalone payment gateway is a huge development. There are not a lot of coins who have that. All developments and also all different and unique campaigns makes Magi for some coins a big competitor. Some people like it and joined our community. And some people don't. Every succes in this world has people pro and against. Check btc. It has also lots of people pro and against it.
But in time we all now what Magi can do in this cryptoworld. For now I can say to you that the Magi team is far from finished with developments. i mean with this that there will be much more awesome developments coming!
Working together with the awesome Magical community we have, Magi will raise on every point.
Thank you all and let's keep it going! Smiley

https://www.cryptsy.com/coinvotes  keep voting for Magi here also! Grin
