No government is going to be happy about people voluntarily switching to independent currencies, whether they are pseudonymous or anonymous. Bitcoin/Monero aren't illegal because they are basically seen as a sideshows. Insignificant. Non-threatening. Does Fontas think that bitcoin (but not Monero) would be tolerated if 10% of people adopted cryptocurrencies? Get real.
Tolerated? What if there's nothing they can do? And they simply have to buy in, like everyone else.

Nope. Any Gov interested in taking over will just deploy their allready existing mining equipement for a 51% takeover. Guildhall/town-hall IT, administration department's workplace desktops, cloud collocations, military facilities. Probably combined with some legal/military attack on some other mining pools, to cut of the "offending hashrate". Easy. Just compare the numbers, some hundred crypto enthusiasts vs. the remaining population.

Having to buy in using your tax money? Most probably not.

There are 150+ national governments in the world. Very few can realistically consider taking over anything.

Because there is no interest. Crypto is small, and experimental. Mostly for observing how this could develop. Seemingly some Govs profited from auctioning confiscated BTC, so are expecting more revenue.

I'm just offended by unrealistical viewpoints. Get real! Measuretape the distance between "And they simply have to buy in, like everyone else" and Silkroad Auction, Gov selling BTC for cash.

I wouldn't say there is completely "no interest" for cryptos in general... there have been major banks, wall street, etc. interested in the blockchain. Now this doesn't necessarily mean that they are interested in things like Monero or Bitcoin as a currency, but I think you will be able to see where I'm getting at.

very nice orderbook atm:

Well that didn't last long Grin Grin

Sustained volume over time means a lot more to be that a few buy walls which can be moved or removed at any time.

As more people here about Monero and find useful ways to spend it liquidity will improve on both the buy and sell side.

Don't buy Monero: https://twitter.com/MoneroPromotion/status/746006420508729344

I have little doubt that Monero is here to stay and will continue to get better.  I don't know how you define sustained volume but it does seem it is something it has had and continues to have.  I look forward to Monero's improvement while realizing it's adoption will take time.

Monero goes down = I buy.  Monero goes up = I hodl.  I have traded very little as I find it difficult to sell any, especially now. Cool

Thank you one and all.  Wishing you a Happy New Year Smiley

Actually there is an answer that is correct and that is "soon" Wink

Hope that helps

Well, a while ago the answer was sometime in the spring/summer of 2016 if I remember correctly; but then again I could be wrong.  While it would help somewhat with the adoption rate of some merchants, I don't necessarily think that it will boost the coin into the $1+ stratosphere right away... I think we're doing just fine having the ability to compile our own wallets and mymonero.com for those that don't know how to compile for them selves.

So if you're waiting for the official release to come out to ride some type of monero pump train, then don't bother.

Are the developers paid enough for their development work? It seems the release has been later than the expectations of some people.

The core-team works on a voluntary basis, only MoneroMooo and tewinget are funded currently.

EDIT: Some others as well btw, all funded work in progress can be observed here -> https://forum.getmonero.org/9/work-in-progress

I do actually. Kept bouncing of support, seems the other direction should be tested properly soon. It seems time as well..

Github continues to be active. Improvements and bug fixes are being made. Software development schedules can be hard to predict.

Yeah especially since most of the devs and people who contribute to github are mainly volunteers IMO... they do great work and truly believe in what they are doing, which makes this community even more warm and fuzzy too me; because I know that there are a lot of people way smarter than me taking the reigns to develop what needs to be developed.  Some people on here don't wait for funding, they just do it.
