Not to be blunt but when will Monero have an official GUI wallet ?

Official, because the other wallets I dont trust that much. Can anybody tell this? Or atleast a time range 1-2 months?

From what I know, there is no official time for this. It saw speculation that it will be out by the next summer (I guess USA summer?). So I would not expect it within 1 or 2 months.

Figure out this and one has a real opportunity to profit by trading Monero.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Is that different than the 0.9 windows beta that has been out for a while?

Rough couple months for Monero. Why do people think? Ethereum sucking up all of the alt-coin allocation in people's crypto portfolios? If so, that should pass.

Bitcoin is the first monetary system to credibly offer perfect information to all economic participants.

Here is the 30 day altlist from bitcoinwisdom. TLDR: virtually every alt is down big against BTC, but anything down <33% is up vs USD. XMR is #4 on this list. LTC is #1 and interestingly has lost the least (not counting the noise at the bottom). The +39% is not really an alt it is GHS (BTC mining contract). ETH not shown but is down about 25%. It is interesting to speculate about why all alts are doing so poorly. Is it just BTC sucking up all the attention money with its rally, or is there something else to it?

I`m not that interested to trade monero, but  i just want to know an estimation.

Its really dissapointing to wait that much for a GUI wallet, how hard can it be to retranslate everything and make a C++ base gui wallet or whatever.

It could be done in a few weeks with some devotion.

Honestly I can see it being everyone just hopping on the BTC train while it's going up, plus you have the halving coming up, so people would want to grab as much relatively "cheap" coins while they can when speculating what the price will be during and after.  But honestly after the steam bitcoin seems to posses right now and come crashing back down, I would speculate that a good chunk of bitcoins will go back purchasing other altcoins other people seem to have promise; either that, or a new pump and dump coin that will attract attention to it.

But like you said, at least we are keeping above that high percentage of dumpage so we can at least maintain our fiat price for right now... not that it really matters, just more of a small "win".

There is an official GUI that will be released after improvements are made to the code.  Those improvements will be done after the release of the 0.9 version which will be very soon.  More details of this process were recently posted in I believe the ANN thread although it might have been here or both.  The GUI question gets asked alot.  Sorry for not giving the details but this is what I remember.  Remember Monero is not a clone of btc like 99+% of alts but an entirely new codebase.  The devs are trying to get the base correct before putting things on top.  There is devotion to doing things right.

The GUI code exists and can even be compiled and tested, but without the functional node connected to it. https://github.com/monero-project/monero-core

The main issue is that there is no point in hooking it up to the current clunker release of a node that takes 8-10 GB of RAM. Once the new release is done and some further work is done to modularize/libraryize the code better the two can easily be merged.

In my mind its really a simple matter. 95% of people holding altcoins are holding them in the hopes of getting rich, and probably 95% of altctoin devs are doing the same thing. Bitcoins little rally is an opportunity for them to cash out. Lots of people sell altcoins to get bitcoins to turn into fiat. I'm not surprised its happening with monero to some extent because there's so much sloshing around on poloniex, because its the only place for it to slosh around. So I don't think its sucking up all the attention money, its just that profiteers are seeing an opportunity.

How much of a percentage of the people that actually believe in monero and aren't using it for pump/dump scenarios have right about now in y'alls opinion?  I was just thinking about that a little while back, and it seems like there seems to be a large majority of people using it for that purpose only on poloniex, since it has went down from .0013 to .0012 today.

Indeed a brutal market for altcoins and I'm still convinced Ethereum is 90% hype.

I am not a big Monero supporter but I own some coin. It is very hard to understand why the coin show such weakness when Bitcoin and most other coins are increasing its values over the last days/weeks. It seems to me that investors are selling their Monero in oder to get into the other coins to jump on the pumping train.

This pattern is allready very old. monero is a real alternative coin, current existing btc infrastructure can not be used with it.
i do think this also the reason why coins like ppc, nmc, ltc doge act like that

willing to throw 200 XMR to someone who creates an app that has the following minimum fucntionalities:

RECEIVE XMR
-default XMR
-easy accesible button for a BTC address. BTC will be immediatly converted to XMR using shapeshift.io

SEND XMR
QR code scanner that
-sends XMR when an XMR address is scanned
-sends BTC using xmr.to or shapeshift.io (I prefer that the user can choose the servers in the settings, but not a priority for first release)

BACKUP OPTION
at the start, using the 25 or 13 word backup format

Other fancy things, not a priority:
*NFC payments
*pin protection
*import wallet
*configure connection to remote deamon (you can set up your own for more privacy)

btw yeah i somehow agree with risto, we are all loaded now

the best way to avoid high concentration for ANY cryptocurrency is a fixed block reward right from the start.
But we need to stick with the current emission. No way to change it.  Not changing it was imho the best option, but the downside is indeed higher concentration of wealth.

It remains to be seen if this is an actual issue though. As many pointed out, maybe people won't care that a currency was mined pretty fast early on (as long as there wasn't a scamlaunch) and will just use the currency. No way to tell in advance.
