I'm as disappointed as all of you that Coinbase didn't have the bollocks to add Monero.

It does seem that we aren't getting the wind in our sails, things like Ledger integration (which would have brought a 2/3x in 2017) seemed to slowly crawl to release without the market giving a fuck.

Even with the bear taken into account, It's a hard time to hold Monero.

I think it's worth remembering now that Monero is a true decentralised, crypto-anarchist cryptocurrency.
I actually think it might be the only one left.

Even Bitcoin is treated more like a derivative instrument than an anarchocapitalist currency these days.

I guess what I'm trying to articulate is that we should be proud of what Monero has come to stand for, it's values and it's veracity as a real grassroots movement, with ideological goals and integrity.

Monero now is quite like Bitcoin in 2013, and I believe it's capable of the same price movements, based solely on the fundamental properties I describe above and it's viciously aggressive emission curve alone.

That said there is so much noise out there today that maybe Monero might struggle to be heard and reach the levels it should.
The more maligned Monero is by the powers that be (EU/US/CB/BigBiz) the more obvious it is that Monero is a pure cryptocurrency.

Sadly I'm not sure if I can recommend Monero as a good trade to friends anymore, but I sure as fuck am not fucking selling.
Worst case owning Monero becomes a badge of honour and a symbol of defiance in this disgustingly corrupt orwellian shithole we all live.

I'm pretty sure there are smart people out there who will build the tools to get around the problem.  I mean it's that kind of motivation that we have Bitcoin and other good crypto imo.

Disagree. Do you really think monero belongs with the likes of Cardano, Basic attention token, Stellar Lumens? Zcash is right at home in that line up. I'm very skeptical Balaji Srinivasan or Brian Armstrong could even explain what blockchains are useful for. Zooko Wilcox is right at home in that clown car.

Any user who needs coinsbase support doesn't need monero anyway.

Fluffy is staying true to the cypherpunk ideals, with a metaphorical "fuck you" to that special snowflake CTO of coinbase. I wouldn't have it any other way. If monero starts cozying up to these corporate interests, I'd dump my holdings and go back to bitcoin.

Sure, I'd like some volatility from a nice pump and dump, but you don't have to engage with a community to speculate on shit coins. Feel free to trade Zcash and roll the profits into monero.

True that, it's just a store of value and stock for the institutional investors to play with now and if they don't get some form of fungability in there then it will be worthless for the common man soon.

Basically all I see this doing is pushing Moneros timeline back a few years but when it pops out on its own it will explode and not return. Which is not a big deal as all the original holders have all made their investment returns (except idiots like me and those that got scammed).

Coinbase is a step to mainstream, the quicker Monero can get to the common man the safer it is. It is like when TPTB want to kill you, they demonize you first and then no-one cares when you die.

Do not make light of attempts to isolate Monero from users, that is what will make it weak. It's better to prove to the people that the CypherPunk attitude is the one they should be adopting.

He reminds me of the boys who would sit at the back of the class and make jokes at the expense of others. Boys who have an overwhelming need for applause and attention.

I suspect it's my age. I can't get my head around the idea that spending one's time and energy on Twitter in order to indulge in the current circle jerk, is a proper use of a grown man's day.

And yes, I understand he's not the leader of Monero. I understand he's free to do as he wants and that it's too fucking bad if I don't like it.

I still think it's juvenile and serves little purpose.

Exactly. Monetary status will emerge from economic realities, not marketing and exchange listings. The race is to building an unstopable and uncensorable protocol, not who can secure the best backroom deals for exchange listings with their pre-mine. Anyone use verge on PornHub yet?  Roll Eyes The monero devs are squarely focused on what matters: hardening the protocol.

We are watching the nascent steps of this monetary status emerge in literal slow motion. It's going to be painful sometimes. Such is the nature of watching exponential growth from a human perspective fixed to about 0.2 seconds.

Perhaps I'm too jaded, but like George Orwell, I don't believe there is any hope among the common man.

"Until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious." - George Orwell, 1984

Unlike most of the computer programmer types around here, I work in a highly social industry, and I'm not optimistic. As part of my job, I ask the question "what is your name, and why are you here?" Only about 50% of the people can answer this question successfully. The scope of concepts we discuss on this forum may as well be alien hieroglyphs.

"I don't believe we shall ever have a good money again before we take the thing out of the hands of government, that is, we can't take them violently out of the hands of government, all we can do is by some sly roundabout way introduce something that they can't stop." - F. A. Hayek

Fluffy's tweets are hilarious!  Go be humorless, salty, and easily offended somewhere else.  Cheesy

Baliji and Naval have enjoyed their wealthy, thin-skinned asses being kissed by concentric circles of simpering yes-men for too long.

They have become hyper-entitled and too brittle to appreciate perfectly normal banter and good-natured ribbing from their peers, and thus must be taken down a notch or two, back to the level of the rest of us mere mortals (but still well above buffoons like Vinny).

In this post-Enlightenment Judeo-Christian/Greco-Roman society and culture, we have strong traditions of self-deprecation and calling out our figurative 'naked emperors' on their bullshit.  That invaluable feedback is why we Men of the West are able to produce and enjoy nice things.  IOW, laugh at yourself, or others will do it for you.

If you want a caste system where having money makes you an irreproachable Brahmin, go live in a miserable Hindoo shit-hole like India (AKA ancestral home of the Srinivasan and Ravikant clans).

Baliji's insufferable virtue-signaling and Sage Guru Naval's New Age Hustle and rank hypocrisy ("I block the outraged" LOL) are ripe for satire.  Fluffy & Friends are doing us all a favor and providing great lulz in the process.

I understand he's free to do as he wants and that it's too fucking bad if I don't like it.

Well. If we focus to the Coinbase CTO guy. It seems to me he was not happy they were called on their 5 coins pre announcement.    Kraken also called them out: https://twitter.com/krakenfx/status/1017933203875622914  Maybe he will also block Kraken.  To me Coinbase CTO acted immature.

On more general, yes you are right. But people are different. I act different you act different he act different.

Way to miss the obvious self-parody saturating every word of my post.  It's like you were born without a sense of humor and are unable to properly operate a sarcasm detector, even when aided with clues in giant red letters.

No wonder Fluffy's funny magical crypto tweets make you clutch your pearls before collapsing onto the nearest fainting couch, weeping softly for the appalling lack of good manners on The Internet.

Have you ever participated on any other threads?  No?  Try to get out more.

I'm sure Deepak Navikant has some appropriately mealy-mouthed platitude regarding the value of opinion diversity you could peruse rather than keep being "truly" astounded by your own lack of reading comprehension and context awareness.  Cheesy

Monero runs on comedy and Fluffy is our Chief Entertainment Officer. If you can't handle that, perhaps the Dash community would be a better fit and more able to accommodate your sensitivities.

As usual, you take far too long to spew the same old same old. The degree of anger it must take to actually sit down and compose such a diatribe in response to my comment is truly astounding.

Brevity. Wit. It's not hard.

Way to miss the obvious self-parody saturating every word of my post.  It's like you were born without a sense of humor and are unable to properly operate a sarcasm detector, even when aided with clues in giant red letters.

On reflection, I can see that I'm to blame for this unfortunate exchange between us. I had quite simply forgotten how easily triggered you are at the mere semblance of criticism of FP. (And yes, I completely missed the self-parody of your post. My apologies.)

Shake hands?

Basically all I see this doing is pushing Moneros timeline back a few years but when it pops out on its own it will explode and not return. Which is not a big deal as all the original holders have all made their investment returns (except idiots like me and those that got scammed).

The operators used BTC, ETH and LTC.  Lmao.  And it seems Monero's community hasn't spread the word quite well yet.  Curious if we would've even heard of it if XMR was used...

It is interesting that after all this years there seems to be so little interest for Monero in China. There is huge interest in Bitcoin but way less for Monero and we would sort of expect there will be because of China political and economic system.
