Lotsa punters in here.

I had to google it.  For me punter was a rebel, but I knew that is not right meaning.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punter

Personal roles
Punter (football), a position in American or Canadian football
Someone who uses a punt (boat)
Punter, a Puntite (citizen of Somalian region Punta)
John (prostitution), in British English
Gambler, in Australian and New Zealand English

Other uses
Punter (protocol), a file-transfer protocol
Punternet, an escort rating service

So which meaning you were referring here?  A gambler?  Or boaters?  Or footballers?

If you believe in Monero's future (you should... just take a look at active research and development), it would be wise to use this "down time" to fortify your position and tie up loose ends. I've been accumulating since the price fell under $150.

I was almost certain the downtrend would have reversed sooner, but these waiting periods can be seen as an opportunity to focus on some of the less exciting but equally important facets of investing: security and wealth preservation. Don't find yourself caught off guard when things start to heat up again.

My last prediction was way off, but I do think we'll see big movement before October. We're deep in the "is anything ever going to happen" phase of the cycle that is reminiscent of last year when the price seemed to perpetually hover around $30.

The general pattern of the XMR market (and all of crypto, really) is long periods of consolidation and false reversals, followed by very brief moments of extreme excitement and massive price increases. I'm confident we're going to see some fireworks (very) soon.

Crypto winter is time to upgrade personal infrastructure. Position size, exchange accounts, and key management. Casa is a very interesting key management solution with 3 / 5 multisig and plans on supporting monero in the first round of coins after bitcoin. Right now, 3 of 5 isn't yet available on Monero, I will be interesting to see how fast their infrastructure engineer Jameson Lopp can come up with a robust integration.

So what markets are actively using Monero now? Which ones actually matter?

I hope so, I wondered (about a year ago) why I hadn't seen many of his views in this thread. I can understand wanting to keep a core Devs views separate with a different account. People expect o much from a dev 24/7 especially on a project like this. It's funny because Iwas going to say it was nice seeing him post again. Smiley

Added: It would be cool to see TacoTime posting here. Smiley

It looks like the worst time to hold any alts at the moment , every bitcoin movement up or down creates a sellof for altcoins including monero.

I think it was good to hold alts previous year. Many of them (including Monero) made a very big move upwards and bigger gains then bitcoin. Then after the crash a lot of people went back to BTC so it has lost the least in percentage. So in my opinion it may be good now to start buying alts again, especially good ones - which Monero definitely is.
IMO BTC has the biggest utility at the moment, which also reflect on it's price. I think that it is completely possible that Monero is on 2nd place - mostly because markets on deep web.

When the alts got attention of the people again?

Probably when Bitcoin will raise again...

BTC has risen over 20% in the last week , but alts have dropped significantly in the last week.
What will alts do when BTC does another 10/20% percent bounce ? probably dump.  A 10% dump ? alts will dump. It's insane i think.
But i hope i'm wrong and markets will turn normal at some moment of time.

Lotsa punters in here.

You are in the presence of some motherfucking Monero OGs.

Now GTFO.

Or do you have something to contribute?
No profanity, please.  You're making a bit of a mistake.  I bought near the peak of the first pump in 2014 and lost money (on paper, temporarily)... hodled since then.
This is why I don't grok the short-term casino mentality.  OG's?  It is to laugh.

Where is your sense of humor?

As to profanity?  Sorry.  I did not mean to offend your delicate sensibilities.

I don't think it's causing a 'sell off'.  BTC is just out performing everything right now.  But it will pass.  Those buyers will run out of bullets and will be forced to hedge in alts sooner or later.  Wink

I got me an alt that I'm bagholding that I wish to god it would pump now!  I feel dirty holding this.  Lmao.

People want bitcoin for 10th August.  What will happen after 10th August? Huge BTC dump. And probably soon after a bottom of this Bitcoin cycle.    So what good trader do when everyone is buying Bitcoin?  They buy alts.  So Buy Monero and buy back Bitcoin after 10th August dump. If you need Bitcoin so much.

This is nothing compared to growth last year... That growth went on for a year. This is when it gets peoples attention... not one week, lol. I don't know what people think that 1 15 min green candle is bullish market and red candle is crash?
If you can't take this bear market then sell all your coins and move along (probably a lot of people do this and that is the reason why market is as it is). HODL

I believe Febo is referring to an expected SEC decision as to whether a BTC ETF will be permitted.
