Has anyone done a broad data analysis on past lucky numbers to see how evenly distributed they are?
|
Do not waste your time debating whether Bitcoin can work. It does work.
"Early adopters will profit" is not a sufficient condition to classify something as a pyramid or Ponzi scheme. If it was, Apple and Microsoft stock are Ponzi schemes.
There is no such thing as "market manipulation." There is only buying and selling.

The lucky number is the first 2 bytes of the HMAC-SHA512 of the transaction ID and the daily secret. It would be stunning if they weren't evenly distributed.

Yeah that bet yesterday killed me Now I must subsist on ramen noodles for weeks. But the show must go on! Technical update - the hundreds of pending transactions which got stuck over the past 4 days have been cleared and processed. System is running smoothly again, if somewhat impoverished

the page has become very slow for me, due to the huge wall of "recent bets". Can we paginate or filter the recent bets section? for example I only bet on lessthan 24000, so just let me filter the recent bets section to lessthan 24000 only, and show me only 20 lines.
The "unconfirmed" section is just unnecessary for the frontpage, move it to a separate page.

Perhaps consider changing the formula for the max bet to int(POT/4) ? either way keep up the great work.

What's going on with the payments?! I have a bunch of transactions that were "sent" but aren't being picked up by blocks as they are found. I also have a few bets that despite having a payment TX, can not be found on blockchain... I'm also missing about 30BTC worth of bets that haven't shown up at all, I could really use these BTC right now - it'd be nice to sell some while the price is up Update: I'm done betting for now, just more "stuck" payments... Can someone please take a look at this one and let me know if you have any ideas? Any input would be much appreciated!! http://www.satoshidice.com/full.php?tx=e5d90902418d58e6f955ed2fca13055196ab03d30b4d917ff480d228fe3bce26The first transaction shows up on blockchain.info but NOT in my wallet. The second transaction however can not be found in either - blockchain or my wallet!? This is just one of a number of them like this, I also have a number of transactions on blockchain.info that are "stuck" and all of them are being relayed by the same IP (someone in France) does that have anything to do with it? TIA to anyone that can help me out!

Very small payments can take a long time to confirm. There are some pools out there that seem to be very misconfigured since there have been times where pools are creating blocks with < 200 transactions in them even with 2,000 waiting for confirmations [WITH FEES!]. However, I've just started playing SatoshiDice for fun with some friends, and there's one thing that has really slowed down being able to play: Sometimes a TX goes from PENDING to UNKNOWN. My assumption is that means the original payout TX was trying to use funds which weren't confirmed, and due to time it eventually became an "orphaned transaction". What's the normal turn around time for SatoshiDice to resend UNKNOWN transactions?

What's the normal turn around time for SatoshiDice to resend UNKNOWN transactions? Thanks for the response! I have been playing Satoshidice from the beginning and never had problems with UNKNOWN transactions in the past. This seems to be a problem in the past few days - if you look back at the posts it looks like someone cleaned out their wallet on a large bet that really slowed down processing but I thought that problem was fixed. Seems they're having more problems again today :\ Go figure I have no problems when I Lose 50+ BTC but can't get paid on my small transactions that I now need to play more or spend :\ In over 10,000 bets I have never waited more than about 30 minutes on ANY transaction with the exception of the first few days when they were working out the kinks. So as for my small transactions that are being held up (the ones that DO show on blockchain.info but not my wallet) is this just a matter of time and a different pool picking up the smaller transactions and fees? For example, my oldest transaction is about 2BTC + fees and I've been waiting for at least a few hours now... it's right there on blockchain but it's just stuck as unconfirmed!? Thanks again

Thanks again SatoshiDice seems to be reasonably proactive at resending failed transactions after enough time has elapsed. Unfortunately, there is just no way to guarantee that a payout will arrive in a reasonable time frame, so keep that in mind when betting. Never bet more than you're willing to wait for!

I think SatoshiDICE needs a big disclaimer so every player is aware that the service is "beta" level at this young point in its life (launched just 6 weeks ago) -- and that payouts may take 48 hours -- or something like that.

Ok, so do to some bad transactions that never confirmed a bunch of downstream transactions chained off those got hosed. Then some things I did made it worse.
Today I've completed rebuilding our transaction database and gotten things to a clean state. Right now the system is offline while we wait to see which of our payment transactions actually confirm. Then I'll restart processing and any payments that haven't been confirmed will be recreated and everything will return to some semblance of proper.
Sorry about all the trouble. I've been working on this part time so some of my solutions haven't had the full rigor I'd like to give things.
However, I think we are making solid progress on being more stable and available. The last week prior to this weekend were pretty good.
Anyone with unpayed bets of transactions that never showed up, please be patient. Everything will get paid as it should.
Note: I expect processing to be restarted around 15:00 GMT.
