I have a question. Why 5ND?  I like it cause I keep getting paid even when I have to stop mining, but why not 2,3 or 4? Just curious. Thanks

Edit- Also has it always been 5ND from the start? Will the number change based on future pool size? I'm done now  Wink
I don't like (and I guess most don't like?) mining and getting rewarded nothing for it Smiley
5Nd means it takes a > 500% block for that to happen.
CDF:
Code:
 0.99326205300091  500.000%  1 in 148.4
So back when I changed it, 148 blocks was quite a while, so was rare.
The 'unfair' way I changed to 500% at the time was to the advantage of the people who didn't leave the pool when I changed it.

Making it higher means the 'abstract ramp' takes longer.
Again back when I changed it, the ramp was longer.

The number itself simply reduces the reward variance. The bigger it is, the lower the variance.
Too big means it takes too long.
5 seemed a good middle ground.

I was wrong I thought it was always 5nd.

I would not mind it being 7nd  which would be 35 hours or so. right now we are more like  25 hours.

The "Mining Rewards" page "N Range" says how long it is for each block we find (that you got a reward ... for me that's every block - I've never had a 1Nd or 5Nd that I've been below dust)

Nice block action kicking in! But a question a little off topic, I have a bunch of miners that I got at different times and I'm trying to see which ones are close to ROI (if thats possible), not factoring power costs. Just strait earnings on each miner vs. what I paid for the HW. I know I can use a Excel sheet to figure that out, but wanted to see if anyones knows of a website calculator that looks at the PPS earnings historically to calculate earnings? I know I made more here then PPS and I can use ZACH's site to get my total's but I want to look at it per miner. Want to plug in the date I put it in service and its' hash rate and then have it tell me what the box made to date.

If anyone knows of such an online tool, please let me know. BTW - Been on Kano since June 18,2015 but I'm looking to calculate ROI on HW since October 2015

Thanks,

I don't really need to calculate based on Kano payment per miner, I'm just looking for an online calculator that looks at PPS payment X hash rate historically based on actual past PPS values. Again, want to see what a specific miner has made (PPS) since a specific date till today.

Well, there used to be retrocalc.net but it's dead.  I have a program that I wrote that does basically the same thing... It's not online, it's on my laptop.  However, if you want to send me the dates (start/end) and hash rates, I'll return the expected earnings for you.

Had a large connection drop at 03:03 UTC for about 1 minute, to the DE node, SG node and a lot of other connections, but not exactly sure where.
Total was about 15% of the pool.
All OK again, but anyone affected will have failed over.

Those of you with S7s that can't handle reconnecting to a pool, you may have to reset them.

Hi I've been trying to get a lil extra hash out of my s5 antminer.
I saw somewhere that said putting it vertical may help.. anyone on here try that yet?? If so plz let me know results
And was planning to suspend it using wire cables around the fans housing. I have 2 fans on it right now. So it will be stable and not worrying about it falling there is a stand under it but it will be suspended in the air a inch or so above stand.

Any advice or comments appreciated.

I have my S5 and S7s, vertically racked for cooling purpose and so far, getting them ants nice and cool.
Since hot air goes up, a simple box fan below will drive hot air out from the top.
I doubt that it will give extra hash at all if put vertically or horizontally.

Thanks for the info it dose help do you know how much cooler it's been running since you had them vertical?
And I know just putting it vertical won't up hash rate but if it's cooler I was thinking I could over clock the s5 if it runs cooler being vertical.

Another question I have is has any one tried having a cold air from a bowl of ice blown into miner to keep it temp down. I understand your not supposed to get electronics wet and the cold air from ice will be in another chamber so no moisture will be blown into or on miner. Just wondering if it is possible or will it mess with miner somehow

i believe the benefit vs risk associated are just not worth it.

you could still use a moisture absorber, but i don't believe a bucket of ice would significantly improve cooling.

properly routing hot air away from the S5/S7 is a lot more efficient

I was able to achieve at least 5-6c reduction by going vertical with box fan blowing upwards.
Currently the S7-B8s at 700mhz FW is at 64-66c, and the earlier S7s with 600mhz FW at 59-61c.
The S7s at their latest Dec15 FW, however not overclocked and hovers around 4.7TH max (B8) and 4.9TH max (earlier batch) respectively.
Occasionally, I do see spikes up to 5-5.1TH on the earlier S7 batches.
As for your ice-bucket challenge idea - I dont think its a good idea. Water and Electronics is a bad marriage.
There's plenty of ideas and configs for cooling ideas in another thread - it's best you bring discussion there cuz this is Kano thread not S7.....

All Tubes connected to the nonce proxy will have disconnected and reconnected "quite" a few times from 19:44 UTC to 19:50
All's OK again but there'll be a restart of it later today to resolve an issue with it.

Stats on the "nonce account" show everyone is getting their shares after the reconnects, so no one should need to do anything.
However, If you have a chance, check your miners are all ok, just in case Smiley

Finally, a block!

We had superb luck when the rental rates are too high to bother with.  One of my rentals came alive last night and has run through much of today and a second one has occasionally been alive today.  Of course-- now we get bad luck so that I can lose on those again!  When exactly does the variance swing my way during a rental?

Edit: Yes, I know this isn't that bad.  I've only been playing with adding rented hash to my own gear for a couple weeks.  The timing just annoys me... the pool is doing around 115% luck during that time and I'm showing a 20% loss on the rentals.  I'm not risking a lot and I will not make any conclusions until at least a couple months.  I'm renting well under market and the timing should average out to bring a profit-- It just hasn't been a good start and I'm hoping to see the better side for a change.
