I saw this at least twice here:
several days of poor luck => pool hashrate drop (obviously newcomers who figured out that during past few days other pools performed better) => blocks and green stats tab.
more blocks with 40-42 Ph/s than with 47+....  that's odd  Undecided

My comment was not related to relative pool performance...just that we'd dropped around 6PH in a few days, and it would be nice to have it back. I sometimes need baseless excuses to make otherwise purely wise-ass comments.

I maybe shoulda hadda oughta gone into politics.

 Kiss

To infinity and beyond...on two 741s and one of only 3...nope, make that 4...full nodes in Hawaii...on <30A. (I have other gear on the Hoth ice planet)

40PH (last time I checked) ... we already have 5 in the bag. Not bad at all - this pool's luck.

PPLNS -- pool luck is key, and so far when we hit those red blocks... the pool always comes back strongly... and it doesnt depend on the big iron miners, 1PH and above.... in fact several small miners have delivered the goods in this past few days

Miss those 11 blocks parties though...

If I provided you good and useful info or just a smile to your day, consider sending me merit points to further validate this Bitcointalk account ~ useful for future account recovery...

Why Kano pool stop working with NiceHash?  https://www.nicehash.com/
They must be using the IP address that has very bad luck.
...
Thus I'm more than willing to block an IP address that shows the early stages of bad luck - especially since no one (but me) actually loses out from me blocking an IP address, it just means an increase in variance (and less fees for me Smiley )

Now, as I know, the reason of bad luck was found.
I am interesting - do you plan to unblock Nicehash?

Thx.

I wasn't aware Kano had found the exact reason yet. What was it?

Not sure if I got it right, but some rentals were showing hashrate with very poor luck and in fact were withholding the blocks.

Nicehash admitted in their thread that they withhold blocks. Only under fishy circumstances, I don't know their definition of fishy. Or how many they are withholding.

, I don't know their definition of fishy.

Probably it's some kind of "fishy" definition used in poker slang  Grin  (a not experienced player who can be easily manipulated and left with no money)

The rain is falling pretty hard at my house right now. Sadly, that means I have to shut my miners down for lack of a safe/dry fresh air intake. I think I'll be able to fire 'em back up later tomorrow afternoon. In the meantime, lets hit a few BLOCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
My 5ND has me covered for a block or two. Smiley

Mine on!

A specific IP was well behind in blocks vs expected.
It was also at the top of the bad luck statistics.
As I mentioned before, since it was rental that means no one will take responsibility for it, so it's safest to simply block it earlier than a normal miner, rather than risk it continuing.

As I've mentioned a few times Smiley
1) There is no way to get anything back for loss from rentals - they won't tell anyone who or what and keep anything they determine was withholding
2) That rental site gets paid no matter what for all good and bad mining
3) The withholding miner on that rental site gets paid until (IF) they are detected
4) It's a lot easier to hide a withholder of size M in a total hash rate of size N, if N is a larger than M and there is no separation of the actual miners ... i.e. by definition: a rental proxy - as a pool sees it

Edit: and I guess I should add - for the sceptics ...

It's to the advantage of people who rent out hardware and rental sites to withhold, if they are paid no matter what (as *Hash is)
The more blocks they withhold, the fewer blocks found and thus the lower the diff change each 2 weeks.
This all leads to the mining hardware and rental sites making more BTC long term ... at the expense of the pool they are pointed at, and that pool (it's miners) have no recourse.

You've explained this before, Kano...but this time I think it's clearer (at least for me). The reasoning, and the transparency, are why many of us are here.

A newb question: How do you withhold a block intentionally? by skipping a specific share that was locally verified to be the solution of the current block?
