A fun fact: lowly Antminer S1 (178GH/s) was making 0.08 BTC/day in March 2014, about what 100th of miners (7-8 S9) are making right now. Price of btc is roughly the same. Bottom line: we are making peanuts for our outsize effort, and it is a fact.

Come on, you know that it is basically a shitty deal that we got now. Can it get better? Sure, in $$ terms.

This comparison is not very just...
Today BTC has a market of 12 billion, back then it wasn't. Today it's also a lot more established than it was in the past.
At that time I would not care as much. Throwing $100 is like for fun. Today I obviously look at it as a risky but growth oriented investment.

The s4 were just released. I still own the bitcoin that I mined then today. I was breaking even at the time when price were at $220. You are right its a shitty deal with the current difficulty and the halving but I'm sure the price will continue to balance its self so that miners are made whole. What is more of a worry to me in the Chinese proportion of the hash rate!

I have always been after this type of data, or more to the point the raw data underneath. I am not sure what BDR is ...
I don't mean to be rude but to believe this "conspiracy" requires ignorance about how mining actually works... Not offence taken, and yes a share is the correct term. I will look further into how the pool generates the work for the miner, the response and what it is combined with from the pool to form the answer. My thanks to Kano for expanding on BDR as well.

Well, in case it wasn't obvious ... I have no idea about what firmware runs in what S9 So I didn't answer before, but maybe I should bump this for someone else to answer?

Kano, do you see any possibility to upgrade to the newest version of the cgminer with these S9's ? I guess it is much harder than it was with for example with the S1 and S2?

Maybe everyone with s9 v1 should upgrade? Who has a good update to use?
All mine have the Nov 29 update with no issues. is s9v2 the autotune firmware?? I am wanting to upgrade mine from v1

I'm not going near them. I spent enough time for a couple of years updating and fixing their crappy hack driver and they've never used any of the fixes I've done. -ck has made improvements in core cgminer that they have also ignored. Speak to them about it ...

Well, in case it wasn't obvious ... I have no idea about what firmware runs in what S9 So I didn't answer before, but maybe I should bump this for someone else to answer? I don't know about auto-tune but it sucks! You have one shot to pick your frequency and then it is locked in and that tab disappears in the settings. The only way to try different frequency to find the optimal setting is to re-flash the entire device and choose another frequency and subsequently get re-locked in. I myself am a default kinda guy. I don't overclock, or mess with the settings along as it hashes like it supposed to. However in some cases I have found on the S9's or all antminers I have used since the S2 for that matter that is struggling are to run, by bumping it up in 12.5 MHZ increments (or down, but obviously first you want up) you can usually find a stable setting and life goes on. However I had one unit (S9) that I decided to upgrade the firmware on and thats when I found this stupid frequency issue. They (bitmain) even warns you about it before you do it, but since it was one unit I went with it. I don't know what the purpose of it was other than to stop or discourage people from bouncing all over the place with the frequency. I suppose a lot of people damage their units with this option trying to squeeze every last hash out of their unit. What they don't understand is if the frequency is too high the machine actually runs slower. This isn't like a hyper-hash drive in a star wars movie. This was probably bitmains way to try and curtail the trouble reports.

Well it's something I added to CKDB long ago to be able to change the miner reward (to put it up twice before) Here's the message just now: [2016-12-16 22:13:02.186+11] process_pplns(): *** block 443699 payout reward overridden, was 1278060860 now 1389667900 = 111607040 (8.7325%) more
There was also something I was waiting on this block for that really had me wondering if it was some sort of vengeance by the block Gods I created another node to test a less modified version of 0.13.1 so I can use it on all the nodes except the main pool - to send/receive blocks to/from the fibre block relay network faster. That pretty much requires 0.13.1 to optimise it's use. And yep, yay, that block was properly submitted and accepted on the test node so that's all good now too, I'll update all the nodes - except the main pool - in the next day to 0.13.1 without segwit This may be a silly question and I may have missed a thread that could have explained this but here you go. Why wouldn't you do the same update to the main pool?

Right now the only firmware you can get is the auto frequency. Up until about a month ago they still had the manual frequency there also. I only have one miner still using the manual freq. The rest are using the auto freq. The auto for me runs great. I left them at the default freq. Now do understand that the majority of my miner are being hosted. And I can completely understand why a home miner would want to be able to control the freq on the fly.
