Dear all,

We like this forum for discussion about Factom, organic discussion between Factom supporters. However for updates we actually use our social media channels.
Some of our Devs (i.e. Brian Deery and Paul Snow) occasionally post on this forum too trying to answer support questions as best as they can and with the little time they have.
They both are working very hard, together with the rest of the team, to deliver on our next software release.

When Milestone 2 is ready we will announce it on all our channels and here as well.
But we are not going to reply to every question or trying to calm down worries regarding FCT price, nor give a weekly update if there's no update to give.

FCT price is what it is, it goes up and down like every other coin.
It may go up in the future it may not, make sure you guys evaluate your risks appropriately.
We don't spend any time promoting FCT and we won't do that in the foreseeable future.
We don't give investment advice and we believe the value of FCT will reflect the value of the network when it goes live after Milestone 3 and beyond.

If you want to follow Factom more closely we recommend following us on:

The above channels are were we are most active.

Let us not forget this post.

Paul Snow used to post here occasionally but due to a few impatient brats he's departed once and for all.

Look guys, most of us are lucky to be little fleas riding on this big pigs back so hang on and enjoy the ride.

Lets say I'm a company that paid to use factom. Factom saves it's hashes to the bitcoin blockchain. If Bicoin fails. I will lost all my fund?

No. Factom has it's own Blockchain and that's the place for companies. It also puts hashes in the bitcoin-blockchain to proof it wasn't altered in any way. If Bitcoin would fail the history would still be there (in Factom of course but also the history in Bitcoin). And more important: Factom can do that with any Blockchain and most likely they will do it with others.

There are or were plans to anchor in Ethereum as well:

Factom Plans To Anchor Into Ethereum Blockchain
http://themerkle.com/factom-plans-to-anchor-into-ethereum-blockchain/

I don't know if that is still the plan after the hard-fork. But in general: Factom is not dependent on Bitcoin. If we think two and more years into the future and expect other big blockchains it's likely that they will anchor in and connect to others as well.

By the way: That's another great point in Factom that it's kind of complementary to a lot of potential Blockchain-projects. There are many potential scenarios for "win-win-situations".

Edit: I also thought about "bitcoin-fail-scenarios". And I believe it could hurt the price if a catastrophic-event in Bitcoin would happen "now" (or the next weeks or months). But it even could be the opposite because many would try to get rid of their Bitcoins and buy into other projects.

And what I expect in the next 12 months is a hard fork of Bitcoin and that we could have to face a scenario like we see it with ETH and ETC. I can't know it, but it's possible that there will be Bitcoin like we know it and a "new Bitcoin" with bigger Blocks. That's one reason why I don't hold much in Bitcoin even if some believe it should shoot up because of the halving - possible of course. But I expect troubles.

For Factom it could even be an interesting scenario, because Factom could anchor in both and it could be helpful in future regarding the block-size-problem. Safe is in my opinion: It won't be boring.

Nice. Case closed. I hadn't seen that ...

I would say FAR from case closed.  The blog has had only 15 entries in all of 2016, and half of these were routine announcements of 100K entries, 500K entries, release of versions 0.3.5/6/7, and announcements of hackathon events sponsored by Factom.  The blog entries and the Facebook entries are totally uncoordinated.  The YouTube videos (such as they are) get only around 400 views.  The twitter feed is ridiculous:  2 (yes, 2) tweets and 7 (yes, 7) followers.

Factom is a huge organization ny Cryptocoin standards, listing 24 people on their team:

https://www.factom.com/team/

Huh.  They've even got somebody that is supposed to be doing "communications".

In my opinion, Factom has the absolute worst public relations of any cryptocoin I've ever seen.

I'm looking at the twitter feed that the Factom group itself gave me a link to look at.  Another example of poor public relations.

It's 2 months old. On that old feed is clearly stated: "This account will be discontinued follow us @factom from now on."

They have poor public relations to users of the Factom open source protocol - such as factoid holders, but excellent PR for investors in Factom the Company and customers for Factom the company, who are also users of the open source protocol.  Some small improvements in communication with us wouldn't hurt but imo their resources are invested the right way round - in getting new customers and developing the technology.

+1 big time. I really do not understand why do they have discrepancy of this kind.

Anyone know the current size if the Factom blockchain? I'm syncing the wallet now and it's at about 1.29 GB. I didn't see the size listed on the block explorer. Is there anywhere else I can look, or just wait until fully synced. Thanks!

This should give you the size of the current block:
http://explorer.factom.org/

You can find what block you're on by using command get height from the factom-cli

EDIT: sorry thought you were asking about block height not size ... not sure about that

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Factom has a blockchain. They basically hash large amounts on data very efficiently onto secure, pre-existing blockchains, e.g. on Bitcoin or Ethereum or ... So they use those blockchains as an "anchor" to secure the data, but what they bring to the table is the ability to scale data entries in a massive way onto already-secure blockchains.
