Looks like the possibility that homero is not gonna serve time is becoming more remote by the day
and perusing the bowels of this thread proves that alone ,some hilarious gifs too!
(well hilarious for some folks... maybe not so much for the credulous suckers victims )
30-80 months is the recommended sentence straight from the US Attorneys Office.  If he serves more it will be because the victims voices were heard by the judge or less if they are not.  If you are elderly, disabled, etc it would be in your best interest to speak up once the sentencing phase comes up.  We aren't there yet.
AGREED!

Is there anyone here who can speak for @Gava, who was critically ill and put all his savings into XPY for his family, before he died broke?

He looks to be well and alive, seems to be the same guy, you sure it was Gava?  https://twitter.com/WoWGava

No, different bloke.  He was @Gava on HashTalk....not Twitter.  I will look for his real name, I think it was Robert something.

I'm sure there are HUNDREDS of sad stories, if not thousands.  We saw marriages break up over this... People lost their homes...

Is this the guy?

Sure, mods are getting swapped out every other day and faces are disappearing left and right, but they've only lost 3 people

https://hashtalk.org/topic/31644/yes-or-no/121

https://archive.today/6zVLe

That's not Homero talking! That's that fat guy.

I am gavagava.. I think I just got shadow banned lol

Hey man, yeah you're shadowbanned for sure.  They all thought you were me over there :-p

Nicely worded.  Yes, the garbanzo...
...
I mean, won't that feel great?

You are insulting a great tasting bean: Try some nice spices and don't overcook.
This advice is coming from someone who completely avoided beans for years, they actually taste good and are healthy.  Cheesy

One guy that did actually die was goroz.
It was unclear how much he made/lost in Garza and what happened to whatever crypto he had left. We had no way to communicate with his family and it's doubtful they knew how to retrieve all that. so I guess he took all that crypto with him.

There was one other guy who had health issues... perhaps not fatal though, not sure. "Trixter" or something like that.

And it's quite likely that for every sad story we know there is probably dozens we don't know, just like out of ~10k victims (according to the SEC) only a few hundred made it to the FBI.

Back in the day some bagholders were bragging about mortgaging their homes and plundering their retirement accounts to invest into hashlets. Not sure how real that was, but it sounds plausible given that BTCJam was full of loans for hashlets.

Garza's trail of destruction goes far beyond just the 10m he put into his pockets. So please - everyone who lost even a satoshi - if you're not yet on the FBI's victim list - do it now, even if you don't consider your loss substantial. It's not gonna cost you anything and you might even get something back, but most importantly - it may help to put that piece of shit where he belongs.

truckinusa did the homework on who to call etc so you have no excuse:

I'm not sure if anyone else felt that way, but the whole GAWsuit thing seemed strange.  No update in around a year?  Don't hear from Shinners and that bunch anymore either.   Guess that is why I never got on the victims list.

I wonder when that order came down for Homero himself to pay or if they are referring to the default judgement against GAW and GAWminers?  The article basically sucks.

I'm going by this article and others: http://www.coindesk.com/sec-wins-11-million-default-judgment-gaw-miners/  Notably, the decision did not include Garza. "The SEC's litigation continues against Garza," the agency said in its release.

This is the news release today that prompted all the articles.  Old news basically.

Yep, I'm pretty sure it's just about the default judgment against the defunct companies. Garza's case is is still in progress although he has that other little issue to take care of too (FBI or something like that).

Fake news basically  Grin

Garza is so FUCKED? How fucked, you ask?

This is how fucked:

Bitcoin startup Butterfly Labs settles with FTC for $38.6M, but it can’t pay

Quote
Under the terms of the new agreement, which is expected to be formally certified by the federal judge overseeing the case, BFL must pay the FTC more than $38.6 million. However, that sum will be suspended as soon as the company pays a largely symbolic $15,000 and co-founder Sonny Vleisides pays $4,000.

Sonny Vleisides was once convicted for a U$50M mail order fraud mostly directed toward the elderly where he was fined U$100 (one hundred dollars) and had to serve three years probation which he broke, thus had to serve three more years probation, which he broke several times worse, but no longer had to serve anymore probation because he's on a new track now.

Meanwhile, there's a dude serving life in prison without parole for committing the crime of the century - running a website. Meanwhile, every day at least one convicted murdered is released from prison.

What's the over/under for Garza never spending a day in jail?

SEC ruled against his businesses, not him, just yet.

We've come to the point where companies are people & people are companies.

Great then we all just lose.   It is good to hear formally that it was just a ponzi scheme.   However the SEC gets the money and that won't even pay for one of Trump's trips to his Florida estate.   I thought the use was supposed to be the home of the brave and the free.  Instead it seems to be the home of the criminal and corrupt.
