1542  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Craig Wright, BTC USA Copy Rights/Patent Troll: What is his 'Endgame'? on: May 21, 2019, 07:53:19 PM

Ok. Craig Wright filled out a form stating he is Satoshi. Paid the $35 fee. He also is playing 'Patent Troll' and registering lots of those as well..

What is the endgame?

1) He was part of a Satoshi Group with say, Hal Finney, Dave Kleiman, and himself. They did set up, as he states a 'Tulip Trust' of the early

Bitcoin 'test mined' as he said, that he can access, (as the last man standing now), thus getting Billions and proving he is Satoshi as he states.

(or at least the last part of the group alive). I don't buy it, but stranger things have happened in the World. (Trump as President). So it is out there.

2) He does the Copy Right USA stuff and using that the same in other countries along with the patent trolling of applications in the 100's. Help him

in any manner, even if he is proven NOT to be Satoshi?

So even if NEITHER of the above is true, or if any of the ABOVE is true...I can't see what he hopes to gain from all this, except publicity.

Enlighten me on how the scam or in his words, process, plays out with either 1) or 2) above or just plain...not either.

Again, don't get it. If he HAS access to such funds Jan 1st, 2020. Why all this other smoke and mirrors and drama? What advantage?

Anyway, for better minds than my own.

I SUPPOSE I could point out the other possibility in that it is just to hype Bitcoin SV and the price (it did more than double today) and play

patent troll and use the copyright to confuse many and make scammer $$$ (IMHO) that way. Get paid off for being a pain on such things in the future.

But I just don't get how his 'scheming' is supposed to work. Either if he DOES have access to Tulip Fund or that too is a lie. Any of his actions seem

to be purely for attention. Indeed, I see nothing in his antics to improve his lot as either 1) proving he is Satoshi or 2) Getting copyrights and patents

across the world to use as some kind of 'payoff' lever?. Anyway, after the fact, stating he is Satoshi.

As far as 'evil genius' goes, he seems to be lacking the skills to pull this off in either manner.

Well, let me know what you think all this drama, in whatever scenario above, hopes to accomplish. (makes my head hurt)

better minds than me and all that

Take the Poll

1543  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright recognised by US Govt as Satoshi, author of white paper on: May 21, 2019, 04:59:55 PM

I assume he is going to use this USA copyright to get copyrights in as many countries as possible along with the massive number of patents he is also claiming.

Thus he can go to various countries, win copyright, win some in court and thus be 'official Bitcoin' in those countries and try to lock out all other bitcoin from

local exchanges or some other skullduggery.

My 'fear' is still that he is the last man alive from what may have been the original 'satoshi group' of Hal Finney and Dave Kleiman, both of which have passed.

Craig Wright claims there as a "Tulip Trust" made with the early development bitcoins (billions of $$$) that was put in a trust that is accessible on Jan 1st, 2020.

IF such was the case, and IF he was part of the group as spokesman, then with that..he can play the same games to undervalue Bitcoin Core that he did when

he forked off of Bitcoin Cash to Bitcoin SV. Raise a lot of hell and make a lot of $$$ for himself out of the chaos.

Not as unlikely as I used to think now that the USA has given him Copyright status on the 'Bitcoin White Paper' and the original bitcoin process itself.

Another concern is, this seems to cover stuff with bitcoin at the beginning before it was 'open source'. Does that mean according to US law he can now enforce

the copyright against bitcoin core and bitcoin cash? What a cluster.

anyway, this drama will go on for years out of court or in the court of public opinion...making Craig Wright, even if proved a fraud a lot of $$$$.

1544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CBS '60 Minutes' 5/19/19 on Bitcoin. Will it cause FOMO or FUD? (Take the Poll!) on: May 20, 2019, 02:57:40 PM

What is the most important thing here is that bitcoin is now truly being talked about in the popular mainstream media and reality speaking we could not expect these people who are into cryptocurrency to fully grasp the whole beast. As they say, even negative press mention can still be turned into a positive one because you are on the buzz. I am sure that there will be some people who will research for more details on bitcoin because of that broadcast. Somehow this can create some FOMO but we should not think that a single program time allocation can create a tide for bitcoin there is no way for that to happen.

Some pieces say it is POSITIVE for Bitcoin..go figure...I think it was 'meh' also...but anything from the mainstream that does not come right out and bash BTC or crypto

is probably a good thing.

The piece was so bland IMHO, that it did not hurt nor help btc in anyway...

here is a another view

1545  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: May 20, 2019, 12:16:42 AM
So if I am following...$850 there is NO 25% tariff and such on their M21 now? I doubt I'd get one at that price with shipping call it (if lucky) $950 w/o tariff and just the shipping and fees. But, if you think $9k or $9.5k BTC or more is on the way..you probably could at least break even (optimistically speaking)...again, not sure I'd buy..but at least I'd be watching w/o the tariff stuff.

Anyway, clarify, please. Perhaps you mean $799 did not kick the tariff into play. Unsure.

With Bitmain tossing in 88 million dollars into Bitcoin Equipment they have left and the 50/50 split with hydro operators in China, with excess electric this summer, the whole thing is likely moot. That easily could be a 33% difficulty rise. Thus even $9k to $9.5k BTC would not make sense (especially if still tariffs) in any case.

Well, hell, stuff to watch from the sidelines I guess.
1546  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CBS '60 Minutes' 5/19/19 on Bitcoin. Will it cause FOMO or FUD? (Take the Poll!) on: May 20, 2019, 12:09:15 AM
My take on this is that the consensus of 60 minutes is that Bitcoin is still in the FAD stage.

They showed how it works, they showed how you can be fast and loose with this FAD in their eyes...

They basically, just went 'meh' its a FAD, here is how it works, here are some humorous f*ckups and 20/20 hindsight (800 million $$ in pizza/etc and Charlie Sheem)

etc, etc.

They ended it, as they say, much like the Internet pieces they did 20 years ago. They also thought that was a FAD.

So I guess I should have voted for Neither in the poll, not FOMO...it was kinda meh...for whoever watches it IMHO.

It did not do anything good or bad toward Bitcoin's Reputation...It simply did what we all do/know when talking with newbs about BTC, so 60 minutes  got BTC

noticed with the same lame, sidetracked and incomplete confusion on explanation and  info that all of us

talk about, whenever we are cornered on holidays with relatives...they ask about, we try to reply, but essentially most people just think Bitcoin and Crypto is a FAD...

that may or may not die or moon...

so my vote should have been 'meh' or neither helped nor hurt Bitcoin this piece...

anyway, how I saw this CBS 60 minutes piece...

Well, CBS on '60 Minutes' Tonite will have a segment on Bitcoin.

What do you think? Either before you watched or after you watched or just guessing. Take the Poll.

Will the result of this cause FOMO? (Balanced reporting IMHO on Bitcoin?)

or

Will it cause FUD? (Unbalanced reporting IMHO on Bitcoin?)

Take the Poll on here.

1549  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LSK] Lisk | Blockchain Application Platform for JavaScript Developers on: May 19, 2019, 10:43:39 PM
I have just seen this news:

Poloniex has announced that U.S. customers will no longer be able to buy or sell nine cryptocurrencies on the exchange, due to uncertainty about whether the tokens in question will be viewed as securities by American regulators. The nine coin markets disabled for U.S. customers include ARDR, BCN, DCR, GAME, GAS, LSK, NXT, OMNI, and REP.

https://dcebrief.com/poloniex-to-end-trading-of-9-crypto-assets-for-us-customers-due-to-regulatory-uncertainty/

I wonder why Lisk would be seen as a security?  Huh

probably because of the 'forging' of lisk on top of a current wallet you hodl and the forging partner's thing. Ie..is lisk forging income? or is like splitting stock and thus not income until you pull it...

that kinda thing is probably driving them crazy in that the 2014 IRS Guidelines..(note guidelines..not even a rule) IS the ONLY say on this matter...so they dumped it off the exchange

so it likely will stick, because who the hell knows?

Anyway, my guess.

1550  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: May 19, 2019, 10:39:03 PM
My demo should be shipping in about 3-5 days

Good, you have a demo coming. I hope for your good fortune and it was 'free' and clear of the below fees.

It is out of reach for most of us in the USA though, even if we THINK 9k BTC plus pricing. With the 25% Tariff and the 2.6% import fee and when you tell us whatever shipping is on a unit.

Not good. I can't even play my USUAL game on equipment 'guessing' of 'at least' I can mine the BTC for purchase back out of the unit via electric... some day. At worse (break even). Not with the above fees. That duck doesn't fly!

(I don't suppose there is ANY equivalent ASIC miner of any flavor, besides (Sia-Tech..yech) that gets around USA tariff?)

Damn, I need a 'cousin' in China that I can trust with a BTC address and a hook to this summer's overabundance of hydropower...in China..as long as I'm making impossible wishes. Instead, all I have as an 'angle' in the USA on crypto-mining of any flavor and such is Philipma1957...sigh....you works with what you have Smiley
1551  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 19, 2019, 08:38:16 PM

Ack! (though back in the day mining this on prohashing (they picked the best-paid coin and I converted all to BTC directly each day)

I made a killing on the pump of this. Was not till the end of bitcoinnect that I found out it was mainly a pump and dump coin...mixed in with

the other high flying phohashing coins that were mined and like me others converted.

Sometimes you get sucked into stuff on the 'setup' of other things (pools, etc)

On the other hand, I really doubt bitcoinconnet 2.0 will go anyplace..then again I also mined Paycoin to BTC on its 2-week scrypt-pow

hmm...either my unconscious is evil and such or I am oblivious when making money back in the day mining....hmmm...moral issues on reflection...

but yeah, bitcoinconnect coming back is a sure sign of FOMO and FUD..they sure did not announce this at 3.2k BTC.

(I'm so old I remember when BFL was legit and all GAW did was resell decent miners..) Smiley

Stats are for Scrypt-11

Set 1: 55 MH/s, 3 cubes
Price: Offer

Set 2: 35-40MH/s, 3 cubes (needs to be reset once a day)
Price: Offer

Set 3: 25-32MH/s, 3 cubes (values need to be played with to get to 32, but default is 25)
Price: Offer

All sets will come with their respective power supplies, cables, and boards to get started. Escrow accepted. I'll add pictures in a bit.

PM me. We can discuss options I have a couple of ideas you may need to know to move these.

I am not buying, but we can compare notes on what the heck we should ask for these KNC Titan Beasts now. Smiley

Not sure how many cubes I can sell. Have this equipment in the past for depreciation (5 years) currently written off this last year...but maybe I need

to hang on to them anyway for the full 5 years. As an aside, keep this in mind...my ASIC wall of Bitmain Units I have 2 years left to HODL yet even at a next

2-year loss. Again, an aside, the 'tractor' may not work according to the IRS but you damn well better show the tractor is around full 5 years for IRS. (Farming analogy)

But yeah, I"ve no clue what you can get for Titan Cubes/Units so chime in here folks!

We were expecting a 30% drop for a correction.

It happened, but it lasted for only some minutes, which confirms we are still in a bull market.

The bears got out of their cave and are parading in the streets, drunk and screaming victory. Funny.

Thats very true, indeed.

Just one 3600 BTC sell order at Bitstamp and everybody goes loosing their head..  bear market back and the nonsenses...

We are at mondays price.. Oh drama!

yep ..this is how Bitcoin 'rolls' as it were...

myself, (maybe it is just wishful thinking) but after such a massive pump, is not a massive correction good in the long term? I mean folk take the profits of the

pump and it corrects and we move on? Such pumps without a correction of the equivalent noteworthiness of depth...usually means a dump and then sideways?

We will see chump or champ we will be the first to know. Smiley

7K coin a couple of months ago was just a dream in my mind....( I was despondent and such) Sad

Hmmm.... something tells me we ain't pullin' back like a lot of folks have been expecting.  We've stayed pretty much at the top for over a week and keep pushing new highs daily. Easy temptation to take a profit while prices are seemingly high and there's been plenty of time to do it Wink   It's a trap!
I think we're in for another (rip-your-face-off) launch starting at 8.5k really soon.

Yep. Looks like a classic bubble....was way, way too high and then went way, way too low....adjusting a bit above the middle IMHO, which means

9-10k maybe? What do I know, I HODL, because of the thrill of 'danger' Smiley

That’s all very good and well.  But the only alt coins that have shown any value to date so far are stable coins.  And even they are quite dubious.  Tether and Dai have shown us that current stable coins are not stable.  They had one job....

Until we have at least one alt coin which has achieved something, I’m afraid your argument has no practical application, and is of theoretical interest only.

They relieved the unwary of their bitcoins and sent them to the likes of eduffield, fluffypony, coblee, bytemaster and the other worthy gentlemen.
They achieved that much.

Works great, when I used to mine altcoins and convert to BTC, for a few years...that boat may have sailed however in the USA and home mining wise now Sad
1558  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: May 15, 2019, 12:13:49 AM
Luckily for us Charlie Lee doesn't have any more Litecornz to dump at ATH so maybe this time the chikun will fly!!
Only the physical ones are left for sale:

https://www.ccn.com/charlie-lee-tempts-fate-offloads-physical-litecoin-collectibles-in-auction

I still have 1/2 of my new LTC HODL Hoard purchased at $94.65...so I need to beat that ...to break even on all

my BTC/LTC and cryptos of many flavors...so the last (almost) ATH for LTC needs to be beat and it stays there.

lol. Finger's crossed

1559  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Current List of Competitive Hardware - April 2019 on: May 15, 2019, 12:11:44 AM
Pricing is fine imo, as nothing else is/will competing with the M20 but yes too long of lead time.

ditto....in my area ... I can get the elec utility (Xcel) to pay same for elec as I pay for (12 winter and 13c summer...more or less).

the CATCH is, however, they go by your LAST YEARS electric use and will only buy back at that rate...so if it was $100 w/o, miners and you have the capacity to do $400 a month with miners....sure you can do it for 6 months but then they adust downward..if you miss that goal but never back upwards..once the miners go off (FML).

So, I can't use the 'extra' capacity of what I use for miners (not selling back to Xcel)  when they go defunct... because even with say a year lag between decent equipment..in 6 months they will adjust downward.

So hell, that sucked.

So back to the equipment side of this post, before it gets deleted for off-topic (where I'm going with this) as a 'equip hedge" (with no real decent equipment miner wise in the next year) a person could use some BTC on a price pump as a hedge against it going down and get a solar setup (my case 9KW is 20k after rebates supposedly)

BUT you'd have to have some miner equipment in place, with a year of electrick use, to justify to Xcel your use of electric at that rate (frigging chicken and egg miner paradox)

The point of this post, you STILL have to find miner equipment that makes sense to mine at say 12-13c kWh and just use that direct to mining...at the point this equipment (next to go around say 2020 equip and beyond) that equip becomes obsolete you could MAYBE stop mining after that point and sell back to the electric utility at the higher use rate for maybe 6-9 months and if lucky the usual winter heat benefit...then they adjust downward and you have an overcapacity solar arrangement that you can't put back till new miners become possible as a hedge.

So I'm still stuck...I can get solar as a 'hedge' in case BTC corrects too much this year and bleed some off...If BTC pumps at least I'd have solar..but that only works IF there is less then dubious equipment I can mine with in 2020 in the basement.

Thus after all that (except for bleeding some BTC off and getting solar out of the deal) I am right back where I started and need equipment that would work in 2020 ..run it for a year or so ..and then maybe, kinda could justify solar.

Sucks that they can regulate how much they will buy back on use...then you can't adjust up after the fact..but they can review in 6 months and adjust downward when the use goes away.

Anyway, I think this is on topic. I thought maybe it was an angle...maybe in some other state...In Minnesota and Xcel I can't give them more electric back from miners..(maybe 6 months) after the miners go to bricks till the next batch of miners come out, say a year later...so the only way solar is any use in my case would be if we have a bubble again and I simply want to buy some solar as a hedge on a drop in price for giggles.....and there is no equipment around I can get instead.

So that was a long way around to find 1) no equipment worth getting in the near future and 2) solar does not give me a working around for this and so back at 1) again...no equipment worth getting in the near future.

Hopefully, someone in another state can tell they don't have this cluster and can get around such.

I thought it was a way (kinda is I guess) to get solar this year and then get miner equipment next year with solar in place. Seems I need the equipment first in both cases and Xcel has all the angles on Solar.
