Actually, if you look at his history rather than his mouth, so did Phinneas Taylor Barnum. But he did believe that parting suckers from their money was a moral obligation, and thus, fair. But his method was to tell them up front they were being suckered and see if they still bit. Scamming behind the scenes isn't fair play.
1582  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - Now Celebrating 1 Year! on: August 15, 2014, 04:40:01 PM
I have used Bleutrade for a few HBN trades. I really like the trading platform. Everyone should check it out!

They were bloody awful when they first launched. Glad to see they got it together, because despite my bad experience, they seemed decent people. And to be fair, they DID fix my problems.
1583  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin sha256 PoS/Pow 40%+ SuperStake in 30+ days on: August 15, 2014, 09:50:06 AM
Are we any closer today than we were a few days ago to get this staking issue fixed? Is the testing of the new wallet almost done? What is a realistic timeframe to complete this testing? I appreciate the few updates given, but everything seems so up in the air right now. Leaves very little room for confidence.

Devs and I are running wallets on a separate test chain to see if the new code resolves the issue. We should know shortly. As soon as it's known to work, it is my assumption that Thundertoe will announce a date or block height where the fork is to take place and release the new wallet.
1584  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SHA]SHACoin 2.0.0.0 | POS | Physical Coin | Real Currency on: August 15, 2014, 07:05:41 AM
Ok so I backed up the dat and downloaded your link, no wallet in there.
Where do I put the dat, newest version is not working

In windows, put it in the user\username\appdata\roaming\shacoin folder. In linux, home/username/.shacoin

Make sure that it, your shacoin.conf file, and wallet.dat are the only files or directories in there. Then start the wallet. It'll automatically sync to that file and create the others.

Another trick that sometimes speeds things up is to not put wallet.dat in there, but rather have it backed up until the wallet is fully synced with a new wallet file. Then delete the newly formed wallet.dat and put your original in, restart the wallet and it should all be good.
1585  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | Proof of Stake | 750% Annual | Coin-Swap & AllCoin on: August 15, 2014, 07:01:31 AM
I'm not going to lie, your block explorer and rich list are pretty damn sexy. In the case of Hyperstake I'm not sure this is the right time to sell off 55-60k of HYP for a feature that doesn't add any real value to the coin either commercially or financially. I'm not adverse to donating BTC for a feature like a richlist or blockexplorer in the future though  Smiley

Yes same here Ill be willing to donate some for a richlist / blockexplorer but i prefer to donate Hype to a community member if their willing and able to create this.
Someone that will stake the hype instead of just insta dumping it for some btc.
ill donate 3k hype to biomech if he can make it happen and im sure others will be willing to donate some as well.

Ill pay 3k hype bounty for block explorer rich list.
Anyone else want to add to that number feel free Smiley

At this time, I don't have enough time. I am against the wall with my job and with my life. I'm not a programmer, so I'd be bashing it together. But if nobody beats me to it, I'll give it a shot down the road a bit Tongue I appreciate the offer!

What are the best stake strategies?

Should I keep my Sync offline for a month and then stake, or just stake every few hours?

It varies by coin, but in the case of Sync, I would recommend one large block via coin control, and leave it open. Sync has a very short maturity period, and the POS minting is going down by half every thirty days until it reaches 1%. Right now you want as big a shot at that minting as you can get. I'm recombining every time I stake. The few minutes I lose vs. The increased shot at staking early in the maturity phase is worth it with a six hour maturity.

Coins with a longer period, I pursue a different strategy, and when Sync gets down to 1% I'll probably be doing it with Sync as well. Break your blocks over the period of a week so that you are getting some stakes every day.

PoS coins have become my main focus, so I'm studying how they work with several coins, and there really is no "best" strategy for all. Each has a different character, even with similar specifications. I'm planning on writing up a pretty comprehensive coin control guide, but I'm still seeing how it plays out between several coins before I commit that to the internet.
1588  Economy / Services / Re: PB Mining -- 5 year mining contracts! on: August 15, 2014, 06:16:30 AM
i've read about this too, it's around some months ago that they move to Iceland (before that, they were in Canada)
they said this statement in this thread. if some users read this thread constantly, he will know this statement too Grin

I read this whole thread last week, and I never saw any mention of Iceland.  I just searched for "Iceland," and the first mention of it is less than 48 hours ago.

It's my understanding that the company is still in Canada, but most of the mining operations are no longer in the country.

This.
I've been on this thread since about a month after they launched, and a customer since March. I've spoken privately with them, and I've read everything they posted. At one time they DID have the Eligius address they mined at, and got trouble at home. They were a small operation. What they DID say is that they had moved the majority of their mining to another country. Iceland was NOT specified, though it'd be a good bet.

Ponzis collapse far faster than this. They might be investing in something other than mining and paying out (possibly), but it's not likely. The business model that I had speculated on previously still makes the most sense, and while they didn't confirm it, they did say I was on the right track. For those that don't want to go back through the thread, I'll put a short version of it here, again.

What I believe they have done, right from the outset, is sell approximately HALF the hashpower they had available. They then use that to buy more equipment, and again, sell HALF. This covers them for the long term, as they will always be building twice as much as they are selling. It capitalizes the growth of their farm, guarantees their profit in BTC and allows them to cover truly massive difficulty leaps until it stabilizes. It's a good model.

Again, I do NOT know this to be their actual operation, but it's the way I would do it. My only beef, is that at this point they have grown large enough that they could drop some of the veil of secrecy and show actual mining addresses if they chose without major repercussion. They could easily establish enough corporate veil to keep the curiousity seekers and the criminals on the other side of the gate at this point. I wish they would do so, if for nothing else to end this constant discussion of ponzi schemes.

They probably have sent you a mail with confirmation link to withdraw.
Check you spam folder.

I've done it twice already. Each time the message-
Your withdrawal request has been successfully confirmed

Still no money.

I know some of the Cryptsy people, I sent them a link to your issue. Don't know if they're online at the moment, but they'll look at it.
1590  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][FIRE] FireCoin + 97K + Fire Foundation + Weekly contest .1 BTC Prize on: August 14, 2014, 07:10:27 PM
having spoken to the dev in irc today ,this seems to be a good bet. he seems to be honest and has taken this coin on for the right reasons so i will be investing in this and also mining on the multipool. i'm sick of trying coins that turn out to be scams so this is my safe haven for now

Thanks. I hope that this coin rewards all of those who have chosen go on this ride with me.

Hey tomcat,

was wondering if you could fix the issue with my wallet. Had to reinstall it when it went corrupt and i used the same zip you sent me to install it onto my system. Now the Fire wallet stays open but does not find any peers to sync up to. IIRC, all i did last time was to install the wallet. I did not play around with any conf file or anything. Seems strange that the wallet has just given up the ghost! Cheesy Grin

Simple fix that MIGHT work: Delete peers.dat
If you have a bad node in there, it will go away and stop causing trouble.
1591  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Advertising spam is not allowed on: August 14, 2014, 04:09:07 AM
if coin has ANN thread and all pools/services advertise there its way betteer than each of them makign new topic. this way 1 coi nwould be 10 topics. is that really better?

the other very real problem is that pools fall by the wayside everyday and I can pick at least 10 coins right now where the OP has links to pools that are not even in existence any longer and the devs are long gone, but yet the coin still has a very active mining community and there's no one around to update the OP - so I want to know HOW us pool owners are going to let the miners know we have a new (and sometimes) THE ONLY POOL AVAILABLE TO MINE A COIN IF WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO POST A MESSAGE MENTIONING OUR POOL?

WANNA ESPLAIN THAT TO US?

Huh

Exactly. As I said, this rule is arbitrary and capricious. Granted, this is a privately held forum, but if it were subject to any sort of common law test, this rule would be found by any court, even the Kangaroo courts in the United States, as overbroad and deliberately operating in restraint of commerce. In short, under any theory of common law that I've ever heard of, this is ridiculous.

Block chain explorer and rich list is live:

http://tek.blockx.info/get/chain/TekCoin

Great tek explorer.  Anyone know where can I find the source code for this version of Abe?

Not certain, but if it's the same as before, Unick set it up. If this is a new one, then all bets are off Tongue

Ok so I have been talking to other coins to work with them and help build out all of our communities. The first coin is Global Denomination. They have offered to add us to their auction site https://crypto-auctions.com/#4307aa708684 . This would allow us to buy and sell there for Fire. We believe this is the best way to move forward in terms of market place. Each coin does not need its own mnarket place otherwise each one will remain small. If we combine a few communities on this site it will help attract more sellers/buyers. They would like to know if the community has interest and if we will have things ready to list. They want to make sure it is worth their effort to add us. So let me know if you guys are interested and will be active with this site. https://crypto-auctions.com/#4307aa708684

I also have another marketplace I am working on getting us added too. It is still being built but close to being down. I will give out more info on this site once the plans are finalized.

I just wanted to bring this to current page. Only 1 person has shown interest.
@Tom,
I think most people are just not willing to go out of their way to post.  Sometimes its easier to just read, lurk, and not post :-/

Hopefully more people will speak up soon if they want the coin to continue to grow!

- VR

I didn't chime in because life has handed me a box of shit (again) and I have multiple emergencies to deal with in addition to a full work schedule. I am quite interested, but unable to do a damn thing about it for at least a couple of weeks.

When the new version wallet will be ready? When the functional stake ? Coin weight, will be respected, or will reset? thx for reply.  Huh

I can't give you a timeline, however I can answer the coin weight Cheesy It will remain as it is. That's part of what's taking a while is trying to make sure the coin weight remains without a reset, but that the staking mechanism gets unstuck. Making it not stick in the future (at least in this manner) has been addressed. Getting it unstuck without harming anyone's stake is being tested. What I don't know is how far that's gone.
1595  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][1000 SYNC] X11|POS|ANON NITESEND|Profit share|Asset Backed Sync Foundation on: August 13, 2014, 05:49:33 PM
thats a bit rich coming from you biomech when you were supporting the trolls
like raskull and his lot who very nearly tanked this coin and almost made mscollec leave
right at the beginning, if it wasnt for me and a few dedicated others who stopped
them fuding you would not be sitting with your pile that you do right now in sync.
So to all those who think i'm wrong for defending my investment well that just your opinion
and its duly noted but don't ever question my commitment to this coin, I have a long
memory and know exactly who fought for sync tooth and nail and who did not.

I never questioned your commitment, and I still don't. For your information, Raskul is a personal friend, and I disagree with his assesment of the coin. But the tone from some of you toward ANY question has been very... elitist. You come out on the attack. In the beginning, frankly, I did not think this would go anywhere. I was wrong, and admitted it publicly some time back.

What I am not wrong about, and you are hardly the first I've called on it, is people jumping newbies. It's considered proper sport on this forum, and it's just plain wrong. You started somewhere. As did everyone. Yeah, itgets annoying when YOU have heard the same question ten thousand times. But in your position as a member of the team backing this coin, you have a DUTY to keep calm and deal with it. When I was managing restaraunts, I swear I heard the same three idiot complaints and two idiot scams at least a hundred times a day. If I let my irritation show, I was WRONG. There was a management seminar back then that I attended which was titled "The customer isn't always right, but the customer always wins". It was only about thirty minutes, and past the title and some specific examples, not that great. But it was true. The customer, or potential investor, is frequently wrong. Often willfully ignorant, and even more often, willfully stupid. But you CANNOT react on their level or they will take their inestimable custom elswhere.

That was my point. Not your character, nor your dedication. Frankly, most of the time I fully understand your snide comments, and in a different circumstance, would support them. But you, along with LTCAGT, Youngg, MsCollec, and Nite69, ARE the face of the coin. It should not be an angry face.

EDIT: haveing read further, it appears that I am wrong about your position in the coins development team. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

So basically you are posting because....?  Huh

Because bitcoin.
You know, it fails. I mean think about it.

One of them is a carefully organized instrument designed to subvert and displace various well established controls on society and destabilize world markets in favor of it's advanced methodology. It was conceived by a genius.

The other is the CIA.
1597  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][1000 SYNC] X11|POS|ANON NITESEND|Profit share|Asset Backed Sync Foundation on: August 13, 2014, 05:02:31 AM

"protocolversion" : 60017,
"walletversion" : 60000,

as long as it works I'm happy

Wink

you two need to get some serious happy pills or something

good luck with "all that"

I was away for a bit, and missed all this. Sorry you got mixed up. I am not the dev, nor affiliated with them, but I've been involved with Sync since launch. I don't have a great deal, but I do have a long history with the coin, and I had troubles early on. I believe there WAS a v. 1.1, but it was experimental and not the final release. I am on 1.03 under linux, compiled directly fromt he github master branch. It don't give me any trouble. Orphans are a normal and expected behaviour in these types of coins. If you get a few, even a few in a row, it's not a big deal AS LONG AS you get valid stakes on both sides of the orphans. I helped a gentelman a few days ago who had gotten on the wrong chain, however, so check your wallet against the block explorer. (Note, this s the only case I am aware of where the correct wallet had gotten on a bad chain, and I have assisted several people with wallet issues) With that one exception, the problems have all been configuration issues. Not even necessarily mistakes, some people had bad nodes causing problems. This too is fairly normal shortly after a hard fork. Overall, the wallet works better than most staking coins. It's kind of my thing, I hold several and can compare directly. Sync is not the best one for functionality, but I would put it third overall, behind HyperStake and HoboNickels. No comparison of the coins themselves is intended by this, I'm only speaking of features and functionality in he wallets.

As for people getting bent out of shape in this thread, I'm looking at YOU Sovie, it needs to stop. Potential investors look here, and the hostility to newbies and amateurs does not do good things for the coin. It's got a lot going for it, and some of you who are being hostile are heavily invested and involved in the foundation. You have much to learn about Customer Service. If it is some random forum member spewing hate and vitriol, that's not a big deal. But if it's somebody involved in the foundation and semi authoritative, YOU NEED TO CHILL!!!! It's your money on the line, and mine. Don't let your temper outrun your brain. The guy giving you this advice has a murderous, hot, and difficult to control temper. I speak truth, and do not intend insult. The advice is free for you, and came at a high and hard won price for me.

Bitch! Whine! Moan! Complain!

Cheesy Feel better now?

Sorry, I had to. My only gripe is that my miner puked and I haven't been able to fix it. Eligius has always been good to me, warts and all.

120satosi...going to die?

This is just normally what happens to coins when it is not a pump and dump. It will most likely go up in the long term. This coin is a good investment not necessarily a good trade. There is a big difference between the two.

People should get use to regular coins, instead of pump and dump ones. You can't become rich over a night. Have a little patience.

Agreed. I just dont get it. On Pump and Dumps most people lose. But yet everyone keeps trying in hopes they hit it right. People need to start buying coins trying to build something real.

Pump and dumps are like the lottery. Somebody wins, but most lose. Especially traders. Mining is a bit different, you can usually turn a quick profit mining a launch. But as far as medium to long term investments? Well you can take some chances of course, but you're not playing the lottery.

I once heard the lottery defined as investment for the mathematically challenged. I think the principle applies Cheesy
